Trained to evaluate computer errors, Tom McCray serves as the Protektor to a pacifistic system that serves the entire known universe, but a band of hardcore cyberpsychos sabotage the system by turning virtual reality inside-out. Arriving on the planet Agorima, James McCray, anomalyst and Protektor, investigates reports on systems. He witnesses a complete system shut-down, but with the aid of Lee, his computer sidekick, and Eva Chang, a roving reporter, Jack attempts to track the source of the malfunctions, hoping to restore order to the damaged systems.
Charles Platt (born in London, England, 1945) is the author of 41 fiction and nonfiction books, including science-fiction novels such as The Silicon Man and Protektor (published in paperback by Avon Books). He has also written non-fiction, particularly on the subjects of computer technology and cryonics, as well as teaching and working in these fields. Platt relocated from England to the United States in 1970 and is a naturalized U. S. citizen.
