The Simple Heart Cure: The 90-Day Program to Stop and Reverse Heart Disease

Rate this book
Heart disease kills more people than any other medical condition. And no one is more aware of this than top cardiologist Dr. Chauncey Crandall, who has performed over 40,000 heart procedures during his career.

In his new book, The Simple Heart Cure , you’ll find this top doc’s groundbreaking approach to preventing and reversing heart disease — an approach honed by his study of foreign cultures free of heart disease and decades of experience helping patients achieve a healthier heart at any age.

Dr. Crandall is living proof of his program’s success. At the age of 48, and with no major risk factors, he found himself in the ER with a “widow-maker” blockage of his main coronary artery. After emergency heart surgery, he recovered from heart disease using the same course of treatment he recommends to his thousands of patients — and details for your benefit — in The Simple Heart Cure.

His unique perspective as both doctor and patient helps him empathize with the difficulties in making a transition from years of bad habits to a heart-healthy way of life. Plus, Dr. Crandall believes in using every weapon in his medical arsenal — conventional medicine, emerging treatments, lifestyle changes, even alternative therapies — to help his patients recover.

Here are just a few of the potentially life-saving gems you’ll

• Proven ways to banish bad cholesterol
• How to slash your risk of a deadly heart attack by 61%
• 8 easy steps to head off that high blood pressure
• How you can safeguard against stroke
• Simple strategies to unclog your arteries without surgery
• What your belly says about your heart health
• Must-have heart tests for everyone over 50
• Easy solutions to steer clear of statin drugs, and much more...

So whether you just want to prevent heart problems, or you’ve already had a heart attack, you’ll find the help you need in The Simple Heart Cure , along with tasty, heart-healthy menus and a 90-day week-by-week plan to help you start taking action immediately.

Many Medical studies have shown that Heart disease kills more people than any other disease. The importance of preventing heart diseases is one of the biggest priorities of Medical science right now. This book is written by Dr. Chauncey Crandall, who has done more than 40,000 heart procedures. The 90-day program written by him in this book will definitely help you to reduce heart diseases. He thoroughly discusses many important topics like cholesterol, homocysteine, blood pressure, myocardial infarction, stroke, lupus, and management of several heart diseases.
“Start exercising five days a week for one hour per day. Walking is generally the best exercise available because it doesn't place too much stress on the knees, hips, and back. If you like to run, you may want to mix running into your walk, which how people have been moving ever since the civilization began."

This is a short and simple, basic book about living with heart disease and should be helpful for someone who has not read much about the topic. The 90 day "program" only takes up 10 pages of the 193 page book and is quite simple, as the title says, and pretty much common sense for those who have read anything about heart disease. I received this book free to review from Netgalley.

Good, sound advice. Just do it--eat a healthy diet, get regular sleep and exercise and throw in a few solid supplements. Note the Must-Have Heart Tests chapter!

The author of this book is very good at explaining how the heart works and what happens when it fails. His plan for treating a failing heart is simple though I wouldn’t say it is easy. I feel more confident after reading this book, and I’m sure I will refer to it often as I struggle with my own heart failure.

"The Simple Heart Cure" is a comprehensive book about the challenge of heart disease. Although the title suggests that this book is only directed at those already suffering from cardiovascular issues, the book also targets those who have no known history nor risk factors to coronary diseases. The author writes about his own wake up call to coronary disease and the fact that he was only 48 years of age with no known personal nor family history. The author explains the basic tests that every one should have on a periodic basis and the more targeted tests for those exhibiting degenerative and more specific conditions. The author discusses his 90 Day Program to stop and reverse heart disease which include specific foods and a menu plan. The author believes that as per the aforementioned and the right attitude, reversal of heart disease is possible very often without surgical intervention.

Ultimately, a good source of some simple guidelines on heart health, useful to most people. I listened to the audio edition. While the narration was competent, I think this particular book would be better read than listened to, just because one may want to jot down the checklists provided.

I do admit to being astonished at the number of food supplements the doctor advocates taking on top of the healthy diet he recommends. Other negative criticisms include that the book is often repetitive, sometimes to the point of near verbatim duplication, and that some of the dietary guidelines are outdated. I was also a little put off by the religious/biblical references, but not a deal killer.

Encouraging and useful

If you are at risk or have had an event this is a must read. Dr. C. lays things out with great clarity and provides a practical plan for life to those seriously desiring a more healthy — and longer — life.

I found this book to be extremely informative. Anyone who has a heart condition should educate themselves a bit on how the heart functions and preventative measures to keep your heart healthy.

While Dr. Crandall has certainly provided some excellent information and guidance in assisting those with heart disease or concerns about their current physical condition, for those with some degree of medical knowledge there is tendency to find the book repetitive, as many terms and conditions are explained multiple times. Skimming those pages assisted in getting through the book, but my feeling is that a better editing would have made this book an easier and more satisfying read.
Also, in my opinion, the meal plans at the end of the book are extremely unrealistic, as only those in the most serious condition could eat and live like this for the rest of their lives - it would simply be too monotonous, unsatisfying and boring to sustain itself or provide for a truly enjoyable life.
The bottom line is that there are many excellent ideas and suggestions, but as in most things in this life, you have to take it with a grain of salt! 3.5 stars.

I read this book because of a scare I got when I had chest pains. Ultimately the pains were nothing serious, but I thought it would be a good idea to get some knowledge about my ticker. Crandall is a world renowned heart specialist. The book is filled with useful information and data on a healthy life style. He focuses on diet, exercise, and life style, but broadens his level of care to include prescriptions and medical treatments in cases where holistic methods are not sufficient. It is an excellent reference that I plan to refer to in the future.

Great read after my heart attack in 2014. Doctor said that my condition probably started when I was 20. In spite of doctor visits over the years, I had no clue until I was 74 and had my heart attack and double bypass.
