He's heartsick and battle-weary. Maverick Carson returned home from war with too much pain and not enough honor. Searching for a way to forgive and forget, he quit The TEAM and began walking. He's walked all the way to Wyoming when the sight of a pretty girl riding a massive draft horse steals his breath-until the hillside gives way beneath the horse. Rushing to her aid, he runs straight into the world of China Wolf, the headstrong owner of the Wild Wolf Ranch and the owner of the finest Percherons in the country. She doesn't need a man in her life. Never has. Never will. China Wolf has responsibility enough between the rowdy horses she loves, the wayward sister she tolerates, and the precocious niece she adores. Besides, Maverick's made it clear he'd rather hit the road than hang around her ranch. Why should she care? She doesn't-not until she glimpses the cowboy in his eyes. Maybe she does need a man after all. Just. This. One.

Growing up in the countryside of Wisconsin, I always wanted to be a writer. I've dabbled in poetry, short stories, and more daydreaming than most. Way back when, I remember long Sunday afternoon drives with my parents where they'd
tell us eight kids to, 'Look out the window and see something!'

I've been looking out the window ever since . . .

In the great Northwest pines, I saw a woman who had nowhere to run find refuge in the arms of a tender warrior seeking his own road to healing.
In the hills of Wyoming, I saw a broken man who thought he'd lost everything
rediscover the man he was in the eyes of a pretty girl.
And in the Dairy State, (yes Wisconsin), I saw two people fall in love
and overcome horrific obstacles on their way to happily-ever-after.

Life is short. Pick up a good book. Read. Write. Enjoy.
Look out the window and see something!

Maverick Carson walks away from his old life and from the T.E.A.M., he needs a fresh start. And while walking towards an unsure future, he meets China Wolf.

China is strong, sweet, caring, and beautiful. She's a hard worker and a totally independent woman in charge of the Wild Wolf Ranch. She's also madly in love with her little niece, a little girl who will steal the hearts of the readers.

Maverick doesn't want a permanent home, China doesn't need a man in her life, but when their fates collide, protecting each other, the ranch and the horses that China so proudly raises, as well as little Kyrie, are the bonds that will bring them together.

Mrs. Winters brought to life a beautiful story of two people who didn't think they needed one another, but were really in desperate need of what the other had to offer. She also transports the reader to the ranch and the beauty of Wyoming, the images of the landscape are so vivid, so real, that you will feel like you were transported to the middle of the ranch, becoming one with nature.

As much as you will love Maverick, China and Kyrie, you will HATE the evil characters that surround the heroes of this book. Irish is able to communicate to her readers feelings of love, fear, hate, anger, and lost, effortlessly. It pleases me greatly when a book gives me that strong connection towards character (positive or negative.) It makes me want to jump in, become part of the story and make them suffer, make them regret the pain that they are causing to others.

This story that has it all, suspense, a feisty heroine, a wounded, tormented hero, a sweet little girl, and evil sister, but above all, the love and support of the T.E.A.M.

I have to say that this is my favorite book of this series so far. While the beginning only focuses on Maverick and his journey to exorcised his demons, soon we realized that our beloved T.E.A.M. has not been left out.

This is book 9 of the series and can be read as a standalone but if you want to get familiar with the characters I recommend you read the first 8 books.

Maverick
In the Company of Snipers, Book 9
By: Irish Winters
Narrated by: Troy Duran

When I listen to a series like this, I always think this is my favorite. And Irish Winters does that to me again and again! The In the Company of Snipers series is a team of incredible people that have original stories to keep me entertained and a hero to steal my heart. Maverick's story is just that. He is home, quit the team and is having trouble integrating into civilian life. He carries a great deal of guilt and it's weighing him down. When he reaches Wyoming, he meets China. Not a woman to be reckoned with, this feisty horse ranch owner holds her own. Their attraction is immediate, but Maverick isn't staying. Or is he? When trouble comes knocking on her door, he is there, trying to keep her safe. Does she need protection? Will he be able to protect her? I loved this story not only for the romance, but I thought the story line was fantastic. Family, greedy neighbors, the team(I love we got to hear from Mother as well as the others) and a child that steals your heart keep this story full of suspense and fun. It's the perfect balance and one I keep visiting in my heart.

Troy Duran continues to narrate this incredible series. He is a narrator I enjoy because he connects with his characters. His voices match their personalities and his smooth voices are easy on the ears. I loved him as Maverick, the protective, and couldn't get enough of him as Kyrie, a little girl! Easy transitions and keeps it all consistent so we know exactly who is talking! Loved this book!

This is the 9th book in the series.

The heroine is done with men. She loved and respected her father and two of the guys who helped out around her ranch, but no one else. This included a no good sister and her boyfriend. Too bad she had to put up with them in order to see her niece who needed so much more than what she was getting. She loved her horses, her niece and her ranch and it was what kept her going.

Our hero came home from his tour and without his brother. The brother who followed in his footsteps and ended up dying for it. Then when he comes home, he finds out his girl and his best friend had kept secrets. He tried working with his best friend but couldn’t do it and finally quit his job with the team. He needed to be out walking and searching for…something. Was it himself? His brother? Something else? All the above? None of the above? He didn’t know…

The plot is a good one of when our hero hears something and stops to help our heroine, she then invites him back to the ranch in thanks. However, when things start to happen, our hero stays longer and longer before he figures out what’s going on. By this point, he needs help and asks for it, but will it be enough or in time?

This is the 9th from this series, and makes you ask… what will the next book bring?

This is the ninth book of the In the Company of Snipers, a Romantic Suspense. This is a series of intertwined characters. I love this Series! You can listen to this story as a standalone, but I recommend to listen to this series in order. China and Maverick's story is beautifully written, emotional, and suspenseful. They are both fantastic characters. I like the supporting characters. The little Kyrie is so cute! She definitely steal the spotlight! This series is addictive, and I HIGHLY recommend it! Troy Duran did an excellent job with the narration. Looking forward to listen to Cassidy, the next book in the Series.

Maverick and China

Maverick told his boss he needed to quit. He didn't know where he was going or what he was going to do. He just started walking. After nearly a continent he still didn't know what he was looking for but he was feeling better. He saw a huge horse with a small woman flying across the field. As he watched they stopped and slid down an embankment. Afraid no one could like through such a fall he had to check. This starts the adventure of living at Wild Wolf and getting to.know China. He isn't t staying. Until he finds he isn't going.
Great story. Loved the characters especially a little 5 year old

Maverick decided that it was time for him to move on so he left his job with Alex and the TEAM. To go walking around the country. He saw the horse and its very pretty rider fall down. He didn't hesitate to stop and help them. China has been around horses all her life and she was very grateful to Maverick for the help to save them. China offered Maverick a job at her ranch. Her very mean and hateful sister showed up with her daughter Kyrie. China really loves Kyrie and she doesn't understand why her sister doesn't want to take care of her.
Maverick will do anything to protect China and Kyrie, has a lot demons that he is trying to work through, he can't stand Leezel. He found being around horses helped him. China loves all of her horses they are all her kids, she is very protective of Kyrie. Zeke helps on Wolf Ranch, goes by Z. Xavier goes by X, he doesn't have very good social skills. Leezel is China's younger sister, doesn't take being a mother serious. Kyrie is China's Niece, she has speech issues, she is five years old. She lost a lot of weight, loves China.
This book is the ninth book in the In Company of Snipers series. This book is very well written and the characters are very well developed. I look forward to reading more books by Irish Winters. I couldn't put this book down, I couldn't help but feel very connected to the characters. You don't need to read these books in order.

Please note I won Maverick in a giveaway and am glad I did. I just couldn't put this book down! The plot is different from most books in that it starts with Maverick leaving the T.E.A.M. and just walking - for miles. On his trek he sees China Wolf on her huge Percheron slide into a crater as the land gives way. Maverick digs China out and they both work on digging out the horse.

Maverick stays for a while to help with the ranch work and they both realize that while neither want someone in their lives, they are attracted to each other.

The beautiful scenery in Wyoming is described so clearly that you feel like you are there. I loved the characters and that we got to learn about their pasts so it was easy to understand why they felt they way they did. You will be drawn to Maverick who was a troubled man but very protective. China was amazing. She took the term strong woman to a whole new level. She worked hard at running her ranch, Wild Wolf Ranch, and making it successful. You'll fall in love with her niece but hate many characters who cause trouble for China at the ranch.

I enjoyed this book so much I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I was unsure when I first started to read this book but I was quickly drawn in by the connection between Maverick and China. I admired China's work ethic and nurturing personality. Maverick was a little harder to figure out except for his very ethical and honest approach to things. Can I just say I adore Kyrie! She was such an adorable little thing. The story was very well written and kept a pace that had me reading from the first page to the very last. This is my first book by Irish Winters but will not be the last. I am going to have to look for more of her books after reading this one. I give it 5 stars and plan on recommending it to my friends. I was provided a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review but plan on purchasing it in the near future.

This is the 9th book in the In the Company of Snipers series. Each can be read as a standalone.
With it being the ninth, I believe it to be one of the best in this series. I loved how much we were able to get to know Maverick and how he is all heart, despite his tough exterior. I did shed a few tears, but also swooned a few times. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a good romance.
I was gifted this ebook in exchange for my honest review. Opinions in this review are my own.

This was a great book! I didn't love it as much as some of the others. It didn't have as much action. It was a slow build. Half the book had nothing to do with The TEAM & I missed them! But I know why they weren't there - Maverick had to find himself.
I did love Maverick & China. Very sweet. And precious little Kyrie!

Greater than a 5 star rating needed

I LOVE Maverick!!! This story hit it out of the park for me. Definitely top place for my favorite of the series. My emotions were all over the place while reading this book. I didn't think anything would beat Harleys book but Irish did it with Maverick. Grab a box of tissues, comfortable chair and fall in love all over again!!!!

I received a copy of this book for a honest review.
I would highly recommend this book! It was well written work of art. I cried halfway through the book over Gorgeous and her baby and every time Leezel made a appearance I was praying that China would punch her lights out. Maverick might not have wanted to let anyone in but I think China and Kyrie were worth it. Great job Irish Winters

This book is one of the best in this series, if not the best. It had such heart and depth. The song Maverick wrote were wonderful. There was not a minute of this book that wasn't full of heart.
