The author of this volume makes an argument for a more activist, critical constructivist approach to teaching adolescents, without minimizing the difficulties faced by teachers of literature as they attempt to negotiate the social, cultural and political arenas of their own classrooms.
Decent review of Piaget's psychological constructivism (w/ emphasis on reader response) and Vygotsky's social (communist) constructivism (w/ emphasis on group collaboration). Adds a third "critical pedagogy" constructivist leg focusing on socio-political dynamic of learning environment - race, class & gender. Interesting theory, but seems to say with ten words what could be said with one.
