Used to plan my trip to Boston in September 2012. For things to do, this book doesn't give you anything you can't find elsewhere, and the maps are subpar. There's a lack of eating/sleeping recommendations for budget travelers, and it's very car-centric--not a whole lot of options for people visiting Boston without cars.
However, this book includes an absolutely fascinating chapter on "Understanding New England"--sections on New England today, food, and the importance of baseball. This chapter gives an excellent feel for the region and should not be skipped.
Pro-tip, when ordering at Dunkin' Donuts, like at Tim Hortons, there's a guide to coffee:
regular: cream and sugar light: cream only sweet: sugar only
A very useful guide in order to plan my trip to Boston and surroundings next October.
I still do have some concerns about the proposed itineraries since we are supposed to start from somewhere and finish nowhere, without any suggested connections to the main destinations.
But in general, this Lonely Planet series provides a good trip advisor, especially for the non-traditional tourists.
