Corduroy is excited—he’s been invited to his friend’s house for a sleepover. First he packs his things into an overnight bag, then he’s off. Corduroy and his pals are in for a fun night. They’ll play games, build a blanket fort, and watch a movie. But when it’s time for bed, one of Corduroy’s friends can’t quite fall asleep. After a bedtime story and song, he’s off to dreamland. Children will enjoy looking at the seven lively scenes in the book, and lifting and peeking beneath forty fun flaps.
As a child I loved to draw-but I also loved books, especially picture books. I still remember certain illustrations, covers and bindings from books that were read to me as a young girl. I’ve lived in many places: I grew up in Wantagh on Long Island, N.Y., graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts and attended St. Lawrence University in upstate New York.
At the University of Wisconsin in Madison, I majored in fine art and learned how to design, print and bind handmade books. I also took courses in Children’s Literature. The combination of form and content in the picture book format fascinated me and after graduation I headed for NYC where I worked for 17 years in children’s book publishing as a designer and art director. But I didn’t begin to write until I had children of my own.
My books have been published in many countries and in many different languages. You can find my books in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Germany. Some of my books have been translated into German, French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Tswana, Sesotho, and Zulu!
I now live with my family in Arizona. You can read more about me at my website: www.bghennessy.com
This is a cute book about that adorable bear everyone loves. He is having a sleepover with his friends, that includes all the gereral fun sleepover activities kids like to do. The illustrations are bright and crisp. Not only is the story and illustrations fun, but so are the many flaps throughout the book waiting for little fingers to lift and see what is hidden beneath! I was pleased to see the flaps are very sturdy, heavier cardstock as opposed to some books whose flaps are very thin and don't last. I mostly enjoyed the many beautiful colors and finding all the objects behind the flaps with my girls. A fun book!
Example quote: "Scruffy Pup has a lot of games."
Teaching opportunity: This book is a great reminder of the fun friends can have together. Set up a play date for your young ones, or even foster the fun between as parent and child by throwing your own sleepover together. Play games, watch movies, eat fun snacks, and tell stories. Don't forget to unroll the sleeping bags!
Both kids got a board book edition of this as a kids' meal toy from Chic-fil-A. I have no idea if the board book is anything like the original--it definitely doesn't have flaps to lift--but it's a quick little story with cute illustrations. We liked looking for the cat on each page.
ETA March 2017: L has really latched onto this board book, for whatever reason, and wants to read it all the time. She has all these things she says as we read: she points out the kitty cat and meows frantically, she tells us "he spilled the snack!", she points out "they drinking juice!", she points out one of the animal's stuffed "puppy baby". It's so cute.
ETA January 2021: F has this book now and asks to read it occasionally.
This was pretty awesome and I already know we'll read it over and over again. Julia loves the Corduroy books and this was no exception. This has tons of little (and big!) flaps for kids to peek underneath (way more than you're average flap book!) I had as much fun reading it as Julia did listening and peeking!
This was an interactive pop up book that would be good to use in your pre-k classroom. The book has several pouches that you can lift up and see the items underneath. Corduroy is a fun cuddly bear and children love him, and to add the pop up segment this book can be loads of fun.
Curduroy always have the cutest books. Great illustrations and flip ups for children to enjoy. Corduroy is excited because he has been invited to a sleepover and when he gets there they play games, watch movies, etc. When its time to go to sleep neither could go until a bedtime story is read.
Corduroy, the classic bear, has a sleepover with some of his friends. They play games, watch t.v. and tell stories. This is a good book to make text-to-self connections and also a good book to make predictions. I reccommend this book for grades pre-k through 1st grade.
Sometimes a sleep over is necessary at a friend or family members home and it can be a traumatic experience. This book can be used to help prepare a young reader for the event and it can also be used to emphasize the excitement and fun that can be part of the experience.
This book can be used in the classroom when working on taking turns and getting to know new friends. This book also teaches about compromising and how each child can get a turn. Great pictures for the readers to enjoy.
Another great Corduroy book. This one is a lift-the-flap book and my son had a great time finding all the flaps and peeking underneath. Just a fun book.
This is Corbin's favorite lift-the-flap book. He loves searching for the hidden kitty-cats. Unfortunately we loved it so much, we carried it everywhere and now mommy can't find it :(
