Melrose has planned a wonderful birthday for his best friend, a vacation at a villa right by the ocean! Melrose wants everything to be perfect, especially the gift, so he decides to take a boat out on the sea to catch Croc a birthday fish. But when a blustery storm rolls in, Melrose is in danger. It's up to his loyal friend Croc to come to the rescue―but can he get there in time?
Two friends get more of an adventure than they bargained for when a quest for the perfect birthday gift becomes a harrowing escapade. This looks like a cute series - unfortunately my library only has this volume.
"Melrose and Croc: An Adventure to Remember" is one of four books I hand selected for my primary age students to take home and read as their birthday treat. This book offers a message of friendship and devotion. Melrose wants to get his friend Croc the perfect birthday gift when a troubling scenario unfolds. Croc relentlessly searches for his friend and a happy ending awaits these two characters. I finished reading this book pleased that it offered a sense of devotion among friends and a character's desire to spend quality time with a friend rather than receive a gift.
I like this author/illustrator. And I liked the story in this book. But something seemed off. I'm really not sure how the preschool kids might take this book. But I like that it is such a different kind of birthday story. I think I'll keep it in case I need something to mix things up. If anything, I think the kids will really enjoy the pictures. They are colorful and fun to look at.
9/26/12 & 9/27/12: This actually was perfect for the books I ended up choosing for birthday storytime. The kids in both groups liked the pictures. I think they liked the story, too, because it had a definite conflict that they were on edge to see resolved. I liked this book more as I prepared for storytime, and I'm glad I included it. The different story was very helpful after the other books I was finding. (It was also fun to read Pierre with a French accent!)
Melrose the dog takes his best friend Croc to a villa by the sea for his birthday. Melrose wants to surprise Croc by catching a fish for his breakfast. He borrows a boat from Pierre and heads out to sea, even though storm is brewing. Will he catch the fish and get back safely or will he have to be rescued? And why are the Townsfolk calling Croc a hero?
This is a really sweet story about friendship, with cute illustrations. I see it's one of a series of adventures for the two friends, so I'll have to check out the others.
This is an adventurous tale of friendship and devotion. There's also a lesson in here regarding the simpler things in life. Croc doesn't need presents, he just wants the company of his best friend. Great for 1st, 2nd and even 3rd graders.
Melrose wants to make Croc's seaside birthday trip extra special. He borrows a boat to row out to sea and catch Croc a birthday fish.🐊
A storm puts Melrose in danger. Can Croc and the rescue boat get to him in time and save our favorite yellow dog?🐕
You will have to read the book yourself to get the full story, but here's a hint: there are birthday fireworks at the end of the book (and on the cover).🎆🎇
This is an entertaining story about a croc who plans a vacation for his best friend's birthday. The story has some drama and some humorous French-accented dialogue and I imagine it would be fun to read aloud. The illustrations are colorful and the odd pair are cute together. I read this book at our girls' elementary school library while perusing the books for sale at the book fair.
Ages 4-8. On croc’s birthday, melrose wants to surprise his friend—and ends up needing to be rescued from a stormy sea! Good thing Croc is a strong swimmer. “...so far, it’s the most exciting birthday I’ve ever had!”
how i wanted to like this title...but it just didn't do it for me. story of a croc and a kangaroo who come to the big city in search of santa. illustrations are sweet enough but the storyline didn't hook.
