This is the magnum opus of Shinran Shonin, founder of the Jodo Shinshu school of Pure Land Buddhism. This work is a collection of 376 passages from 62 sutras, discourses, and commentaries, with Shinran's own notes and commentary, organized into a coherent and comprehensive explication of the Pure Land teaching.
Probably one of the most important books not only in the history of Japanese Buddhism, but also in the history of the whole religion. While at the first glance it may seem that it's merely a composition of quotations and excerpts from other texts, Kyogyoshinsho contains indescribable depth to it, illuminating and enlightening the reader to the reality of compassion.
