What happens when the glass slippers pinch Cinderella’s toes? When Jaine Andersen proposes a new marketing role to the local amusement park, general manager Dylan Callahan charms her into filling Cinderella’s glass slippers for the summer. Her reign transforms Jaine’s ordinary life into chaos that would bewilder a fairy godmother. Secretly dating her bad boy boss, running wedding errands for her ungrateful sisters, and defending herself from the park’s resident villain means Jaine needs lots more than a comfy pair of shoes to restore order in her kingdom. First in the Storybook Valley series, a blend of sweet romance, chick lit, and fairy tale fun.

I may be a tad biased but this book was so good. The chemistry between Jaine and Dylan was so well written. The anticipation I had for this book was well met. I enjoyed this book so much I just have to pick up the next Storybook Valley novel.
(4.5 Stars) The book starts out with Jaine desperately trying to find a job. After pitching herself to a theme park, she is offered a job...but only after a summer of playing Cinderella. I love a good fairy tale and this was an expected bonus for me, because it was kind of two in one. Not only does Jaine pretend to be Cinderella, but her real life shows some similarities to the princess's life.
Jaine is a great character. She shows a lot of grit when it comes to proving herself worthy for this new position. How many women with a college degree would agree to dressing up every day and immersing herself into Cinderella's world? She knows what she wants and does what it takes to get it. That determination carries over into her love life. She's got two great guys to choose from--Prince Charming and her boss, Dylan. Following her heart is the best course of action, but not necessarily the easiest, as a little mystery crops up in the workplace. I really liked with Jaine, as she's very selfless and does what's best for those around her. Sometimes, she gets stepped on a little too much, especially by those whom she loves the most.
The romance in the book is great! Everyone deserves a second chance, or even a third, and it was fun to watch the relationship blossom and mature.
There are some great secondary characters as well, that really make this fun setting all the more intriguing. I love the enthusiasm they each have for this theme park and its success. The story flows at a good pace and there are a few surprises in store for the reader. This is a great read for Cinderella lovers.
Content: mild, clean romance (kissing); mild-moderate language; no violence.

Fooling Around with Cinderella by Stacy Juba is a delightful read. Jaine Anderson begins her marketing job at a children’s theme park but she must also work as the parks Cinderella for the summer. Jaine is determined to make this career work and agrees to the terms. Dylan Callahan is her charming boss. The chemistry is undeniable but they are determined to remain professional. Is he her prince? Are there to many obstacles for them to overcome?
This character driven story immediately draws the reader into Jaine’s world. Juba’s quick paced read has many unexpected and revealing twists and turns. The secondary characters add depth and humor to the story as well. Their voices are strong and distinct. Fooling Around with Cinderella is a feel good read and is perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Looking forward to the next book in the Storybook Valley series.
Loved the cover, the characters, the setting and the lively writing! What more need I say? Oh yes, the story wrapped me in a cosy, warm blanket and carried me away to Storybook Valley – I could almost believe it was real. I rather wish it was real! A delightful story, well told. I do hope there will be more in this series; Stacy Juba creates characters you want to have as your friends and neighbours, so naturally you want to know everything there is to know about them.
Jaine is an unemployed woman juggling a million and one things on a daily basis, the least of which is planning a wedding, and not her own. But when she saw an opportunity for a possible job position she took it which led her to a great job doing the one thing she didn't know would bring her happiness. Jaine is now the resident Cinderella. Dylan has been trying to get out from under the Cinderella curse so when he gets Jaine's resume he thinks he hit the gold mind. Get an on call advertisement helper and get a responsible person to be his Cinderella. Little did they know that there would be an evil villain hidden in the mist just waiting to have their castle come crashing down. This was a great all out romance that brought a new level to the multiple times over told Cinderella story. I really like the chemistry between these two characters and I would recommend this to anyone who just wants a cute romance. P.S. there is no sexual intercourse in this book.
Fooling around with Cinderella by Stacy Juba is a delightful story featuring Jaine Andersen and her adventure working for Storybook Valley Amusement Park, which is run by the gorgeous Dylan Callahan, the grandson of the couple who started the park. In need of a job, Jaine sends her resume and a letter pitching her ability to raise the attendance numbers to the fairy tale themed park, which has kept its magic through the years but lost its attendance numbers. She charms Dylan into hiring her, but there is a catch. The park is in need of someone to play Cinderella that summer, so because the park can't afford to hire her on full-time during the summer, Jaine gets stuck having to put on heavy make-up, a fancy taffeta dress, and a golden wig to be Cinderella for little children every day.

Fooling Around With Cinderella is the story of Jaine Anderson who proposes a new marketing plan to a local amusement park, seeking a job there but by a turn of events finds herself playing Cinderella instead alongside her marketing role!
I just love fairy tales and stories that promise a fairy tale like experience are always alluring to me. I loved the title, cover and blurb of this book and jumped at the chance to read it.
Entertaining right from the start, I enjoyed each and every moment following Jaine around as she fought her overbearing sisters, fought her attraction towards her hunk boss and found herself playing Cinderella!
Stacy Juba does a stellar job of recreating a well loved fairytale in modern settings and has a rich narration style that kept me glued to the book right till the end. Storybook Valley amusement park had me revisiting my precious childhood memories of visiting such amusement parks where there were Cinderella, Peter Pan, Red robin Hood and other beloved Disney characters who seemed happy and the settings had a magical feel to them.
The characters are well fleshed out and I could relate to each one of them. Jaine somewhat reminded me of myself. She is kind, loyal, hardworking and often taken for granted. She feels self conscious of herself, comparing herself to her successful sisters but despite this is never jealous and always there to help them out which is like every time because her sisters have her working their chores all the time without once a good word about all her efforts.
Dylan had my heart palpitating with his handsome looks, his charm, his kindness and then his determination to make Storybook Valley a success. The chemistry between him and Jaine is both sweet and heartfelt. I felt invested in their lives and kept praying for a happily-ever-after for them.
The other characters also play their part admirably and I loved meeting Dylan's family who started Storybook Valley. They are a varied bunch and had me smiling reading them. I would definitely love to read their own stories and hope Stacy writes about them soon.
The story is well paced with expertly planned twists, emotional plays and added doses of humour, relationship study, romance and suspense. This is a great start to a new series and definitely a must read.
All in all, Fooling Around With Cinderella had me thoroughly entertained and I loved every second of it. 4.5 out of 5 to it and strongly recommended to all fans of fairy tale themed romances full of wit, suspense and a healthy dose of fairy tale. I enjoyed Stacy's writing and look forward to reading more from her in the future. Can't wait to read the next book in this series. Hope it comes out soon.
I received an ARC from the author and I am very thankful to her. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
I really enjoy reading modern versions of fairy tales, so I was excited to get my hands on this one. Ms. Juba does a clever job of twisting the traditional elements of the Cinderella story to make this contemporary retelling. More than once I didn't even realize the connection to the original at first, but once I did it made me smile. I can't wait to see what directions she'll go with the rest of the series--so many fun options!
Like any self-respecting fairy tale, this story is told from the main character--in this case Jaine/Cinderella's--point of view. I loved that she didn't sit back and wait for things to happen to or for her, instead she went out and made her own chances and opportunities. She sent out a cold resume to a theme park that she'd loved going to as a child, and managed to talk the general manager--Dylan, aka the "real" Prince Charming (because of course there's a guy who plays the prince in the park)--into creating a brand new position just for her.
There's just one teensy, tiny catch. It won't be full time until the fall...and in the meantime, she has to supplement her part time hours spent in the office in costume, playing the part of--you got it--Cinderella.
Jaine's never seen herself as the princess type, and isn't a fan of the elaborate costume she has to wear or the long list of details she has to remember in order to stay in character. She's also determined to show that her other position--the one she hopes will be her "real" job--is one that's going to prove invaluable to her new employers, so she's pulling out all the stops on planning a new promotion to bring families into the park. On top of all that, her sisters expect their single, unattached sibling who "only has a cat to care for" to help them out with--well, just about everything they don't feel like doing themselves. (Hmmm. I wonder who the ugly stepsisters are in this scenario? ;))
And then there's the probably inappropriate feelings she has for her boss. She should probably suppress those. Except she doesn't really want to, and Dylan doesn't either...
This version of Cinderella has everything the story needs--an overworked, under-appreciated heroine, a fairy godmother, a magical transformation, a handsome prince, the left-behind forgotten footwear...even the stepmother and "evil" sisters are here, though the true villain turns out to be someone outside the usual suspects. To top it all off, it's a sweet romance that you'd feel comfortable letting your younger teen read.
Did I mention I'm looking forward to the rest of the series? :)

I was attracted by the lively cover, always enjoy a good chick lit, and what girl can resist a Cinderella-themed story, so I thought I’d give this a go. I’m so glad I did.
I’ve been royally entertained for the last few days, immersed in the characters and their comings and goings in Storybook Valley. I love it when an author creates a delightful world in microcosm that draws me into its cosy bosom and makes me feel so at home there. That’s how Storybook Valley made me feel from the start, when Jaine Anderson applied there for the post of marketing consultant. She found employment, but with strings attached. In the first place, she had to agree to take on the role of Cinderella for the summer season before her real job commenced and in the second, the last thing she had bargained for was finding her very own Prince Charming in the form of her out-of-bounds boss.
But valiant Jaine takes on both and manages to keep everything a secret from her self-centred ugly sisters (flawed inside, that is, not physically ugly) and their voracious demands on her time and patience. One uses her as her permanent (unpaid) nanny and the other as her (also unpaid) wedding planner/Jill of all trades. Somehow Jaine manages to juggle all her commitments and even find time for romance and making some very good friends at Storybook Valley – oh yes, and an enemy (or frenemy, as Jaine calls her) as well.
Many beautifully-drawn characters (I foresee several spin offs from this story) parade the pages of this story and the Storybook Valley theme park is so well described, it almost becomes a character itself. Jaine is highly likeable, if a tad self-effacing at times, and you root for her all the way. And then there’s Dylan – gorgeous and irresistible – driving himself like a true workaholic to prove to his exacting parents that he can run the theme park and take it to new heights of success. Having had his fingers burnt in the past, Dylan has placed a definite veto on mixing business with pleasure. But then he hadn’t expected to find his perfect Cinderella.
'Fooling Around with Cinderella' has all the right ingredients for you to snuggle up on the sofa and immerse yourself in its colourful world when the weather is grim and grey outside. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to more in this series.
Fooling Around With Cinderella by Stacey Juba is about a girl named Jaine who is at her sisters demanding call from planning their perfect wedding to babysitting. For Jaine her only “vacation” and relief from the chaos is finding a job outside away from her family. The only thing is, this modern day Cinderella has to be sure her family does not find out. That would not be fair for them, who would wait on them!? And that’s exactly why Jaine is trying so hard to break free to pursue her own dreams even if it means not doing what she really wants…for now.
When Jaine applies for a marketing position in the local Storybook Valley theme park, and gets her first interview with Dylan Callahan. When she goes she finds out there is no room in marketing but realizing her creativity and determination she is offered another opportunity but what she doesn’t know that it involves a princess costume, to be exact it’s to be Cinderella. For Jaine, this is not her dream job but it’s also not the worst thing that could possibly happen. For her she is already in and all she has to do is bide her time and as she works also forming new ideas and strategies for the park.
Fooling Around With Cinderella by Stacey Juba has a little everything keeping the story enjoyable to read. Keeping the hallmarks with a modern day twist. Its got some humor, mild romance, rivalry and a little mystery. Ito a fun story and we’ll written, it keeps the readers attention throughout the story with consistent follow through and delivery. The main characters are not over the top but are not underwhelming either, it also has equally fun supporting characters. Fooling Around With Cinderella by Stacey Juba is the first in the Storybook Valley Series.
Jaine Andersen is a smart, marketing job seeker who has decided that, after visiting with her young niece, an aging, family-owned amusement park needs her expertise. Storybook Valley Amusement Park isn’t looking for a marketing director but agrees to review her proposal. What the park's new general manager, Dylan Callahan, does need is a new Cinderella. So with a promise from the handsome general manager to add a marketing position in the fall, Jaine agrees to don the Cinderella costume and learn how things are run at the park from the inside.
The quirky characters make this story a pleasurable journey as Jaine learns about this unique family, the business, and its employees. When Jaine discovers her high school nemesis is employed in upper management at Storybook Park and the woman is after Dylan’s job, all bets are off. With Jaine’s own sisters demanding her time for their needs and devices, things in her own life start to fall apart.
It is always great to watch a strong female wade through the twists of a plot and manage to keep her dignity intact while dealing with circumstances beyond her control. There is a nice balance achieved in this story and I would recommend it for a satisfying beach read. I can’t wait to see who the next story is about; there are so many interesting character choices for Ms. Juba to choose from.
FYI: Fooling Around with Cinderella is the first book in the Storybook Valley series from Stacy Juba. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy.** March 14, 2016
Format/Typo Issues: I found no significant issues in editing or formatting.
Jaine Andersen needs a job and she is hoping that Storybook Valley is the place to find it. With a background in marketing, she is certain that she has what it takes to thrust the amusement park back into the spotlight. But things start heading in a different direction when the general manager, Dylan, hires Jaine only on the condition that she fill the role of Cinderella while they try adjusting their budget to accommodate her marketing plans. With princess school underway, Jaine reluctantly steps out of her comfort zone and into Cinderella's Castle.
However, the magic starts to fade as it becomes clear that something wicked is set on destroying her career. Jaine will have stand up for herself and what she wants, even if that means losing those that mean the most.
Fooling Around with Cinderella was a fun read! The relationships that Jaine has are realistic. With Dylan, it's difficult as they try to find a balance between working together and resisting their attraction to each other. With her sisters, Jaine is constantly struggling to help them while not being taken advantage of. Not to mention the pressure of being a perfect Cinderella for the children. It was exciting to watch as Jaine's character grew and the sweet romance factor made it hard to put the book down. Fooling Around with Cinderella was certainly a guilty pleasure read for me and I highly recommend it.
I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
The Writing: The writing was good. We read all the time from Jaine's POV. It would be great to read something from Dylan's POV too.
The Story: This is a 'kind of' retelling. You get the obvious details. She acts as Cinderella in Storybook Valley. Then you get part of Cinderella story with other characters and adapted to our reality-right now. It was great to read it. Cinderella isn't my favorite princess but I liked this. You don't get the main problem until you're quite far in the book. The end is really sweet and leaves you wanting your own Prince.
The Characters: Jaine: She has some character development through the book. She starts being this really shy person which her sisters use as they want but who is trying to have the work she wants. Then she changes and she becomes more decided, less self-concious and enjoys what she is doing. And that's great. Dylan: He was charm in person. It made me sad that his parents didn't trust him a lot but he hadn't the better past. The best thing about him was that he made a mistake and he recognised it. And wanted a second chance. Gabrielle: She was so bad. Shush! Then we have the other characters who played a role in this story in some way or another!
This is not a serious read. It's just something to have fun, enjoy the moment and relax.
After reading it you feel happy. At the end, the best thing is that you believe fairytales can be true!
Unemployed and desperate for her next break, Jaine walks into the office of the general manager of Storybook Valley, the local fairytale theme amusement park, ready to make the marketing pitch of a lifetime and bring the park and herself back into the spotlight. What she doesn’t expect is to have crazy chemistry with said manager and future boss or to be offered the job contingent upon her playing Cinderella for the summer. Just what she needs in between planning her sister’s wedding and getting her marketing career back on track is to parade around in a gigantic gown reading stories to sticky little kids. Jaine will do whatever it takes to prove she has what it takes to make put this park on the map, even if that means putting in extra hours, fighting her growing attraction to her boss and proving someone is sabotaging her all while in a pair of fabulous if slightly uncomfortable glass slippers.
FOOLING AROUND WITH CINDERELLA brings with it all the best parts of fairytales—villains, evil sisters, unlikely fairy godmothers and a storybook romance all wrapped into one cheery package. Jaine is a driven and generous character; you can’t help but root for her to find her own prince charming. This light, imaginative read rich with lovable characters will have you believing in magic again. I can’t wait to see what this series has in store.
I was provided a copy of Fooling Around with Cinderella in exchange for an honest review. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to read this; normally I wouldn’t have chosen this for myself, and I would have missed out on a 100% charming and heartfelt story.
Jaine gets charmed into playing Storybook Valley’s full time Cinderella, and part time Marketing coordinator, by her very handsome and lady killer boss, Dylan. She isn’t too thrilled by the prospect of playing Cinderella, but wants to be a team player in order to get the full time Marketing position. The funny thing is Jaine wears so many hats; she kinda resembles Cinderella in her real life. She has two sisters that don’t appreciate her, and are constantly dumping things on her that they should do themselves, including watching a child!
“I’m Cinderella the scullery maid, who no one appreciates.”
Life at the Storybook Valley brings many things to Jaine; friendships, betrayals, romance, love, heartache, and great joy.
Fooling Around With Cinderella was a great story about a woman learning to stand up for herself, find out who she is, and maybe find her prince charming on the way. I very much enjoyed this very sweet and charming story. I’m giving it 4 boundless stars....Sara
Unemployed Jaine is balancing wedding planning, babysitting, and looking for a marketing director position. When she pitches her ideas to Dylan Callahan, the general manager of a local family theme park, he is impressed and hires her on the spot. Problem is, Jaine will have to be the theme park Cinderella until the season ends. Since Jaine could easily imagine her boss as Prince Charming, and the way her sisters treat her like their personal servants, she feels like she already fills Cinderella’s shoes. Why not live in her castle too?
After reading the blurb for this I knew it was a must read, and turns out, I was right. This was a great update on a classic that everyone loves. Jaine made a great Cinderella with all the insecurities she had. I loved the story, but it felt rushed once Jaine’s secret was revealed. I was craving so much more. But then again, isn’t that what makes a great story.
**I received this book in exchange for my unbiased review. All opinions are my own.
This was a cute fast read for me it moves slow and didn't hold my attention. I kept expecting it to take off but for me it never did. The story has a good plot with a twist on the villain. The chemistry between Jaine and Dylan is wonderful. Jaine lets her family use her and she gets no credit for what she does for them. I did not care for her character she did grow on me as the story went on. I thought at times the story moved to slow and at other times it moved to fast. I am not sure what I expected but the author did not pull me in and lost me. Other readers have loved this I guess I missed what they found. Please do not take my word for it take a chance and give it a read yourself.
This is a heartwarming book that made me smile. If you are looking for a fun contemporary romance, you have found it in this book. While it is an adult book, it is a clean romance and one that you can share with your teens.
This is my first review. The story was awesome but I wish Gabrielle could be a bit more extreme but other than that everything was good especially how Jaine handled her busy schedule while pursuing her dreams or the things she want to do.
I got a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
Fooling Around with Cinderella is a light easy reading fun book. With a touch of Disney and a Prince Charming, it was total escapism. There was even a pair of glass slippers as you can see from the beautiful cover of the book.
Starting off with Jaine looking for a job in marketing, she applies at Storybook Valley theme park – a great name for a theme park don’t you think. As a compromise she agrees to be “Cinderella” for the summer too. Because of this agreement, she gets to meet Prince Charming, – will he be her Prince Charming? She also meets Red Riding Hood, who helps Jaine with her Cinderella fashion, and of course she has encounters with the ‘baddy’. This is a fairy tale story that is sweet and I suppose could be real, there is no big bad wolf that makes it totally fairy tale, but it is escapism and dream world. If you want an easy read where you can be lifted away into a world of make believe this is the book for you.
Jaine starts off unemployed and being taken for granted by her family, (there is a step mother and sisters) then she becomes Cinderella and her life changes a bit. There is drama, romance and fun in this book. I enjoyed the flowing writing, the underlying similarities between the Cinderella story and this tale, but mostly I enjoyed being taken away from real life for a while and being enchanted by a a fictional ‘Princess’.
Will Cinderella get to dance with her Prince? Read it and see. I think this would make a nice modern re- telling film, I would certainly watch it.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. And my apologies to the author for taking so long to get around to it. Jaine is interviewing for a job as marketing director at Storybook Valley theme park and her interviewer is a good looking blond hunk named Dylan. She’s young but she has experience promoting the various places where she’s worked. The problem is she’s been laid off from her last job and her savings are running low. Dylan is willing to offer her a full-time marketing position, but not until the fall. However, he has a part-time position for her. He needs a Cinderella for the summer. This Cinderella doesn’t have mean stepsisters. She has two real sisters who are so busy with their own lives that they consider Jaine to be their own free agent. She is supposed to be on call all the time to chauffer her niece around, plan a wedding reception and just generally do what the sisters can’t make time for. The mean stepmother isn’t intentionally cruel. She’s just made Jaine’s father move to a different state to be closer to her own family. Dylan is also saddled with his own family history. In all the fairy tales, we’ve never spent much time with Prince Charming and this brings a delightful depth to the character. The dialogue is sparkling. Most of the characters are nice people. There’s no bodice ripping sex. The story is fun. Highly recommended.
The author builds an amazing fantasy kingdom through an amusement park. The reader quickly becomes vested in the cute, quirky, and loving group of family members and characters. The author is very descriptive, allowing the reader to see the park and environment where the story takes place. Throughout the story the emotions surrounding the events are realistic, at times pulling on your heart strings snd with a quick change of events leaving your heart happy. The lessons learned and shared through the characters eyes are important in the story but also express a real life struggle that some people experience when the life live in a fantasyland. It’s as if the author understands what it is like to blaze a path that makes you happy! I cannot wait to start the next edition and I am hoping this series will continue to build on the well thought out characters the call Storybook Valley Theme Park home.
This is such a fun read! Jaine wants a marketing job and goes to the local theme park trying to get one. Well her plan sorta works, she can have that job if she plays Cinderella for the summer. That can't be too hard can it, even though she doesn't think she's right for the part. What she doesn't take into account is her bossy sisters, a hot boss and his family, and someone from high school who also works there.
This story was laugh out loud funny! The author did a great job making an old fairy tale modern. You just can't help laughing at the antics of everyone. Lets not forget the romance that is trying so hard to be between Jaine and Dylan, you root them on throughout the book. I received a copy under no obligation.
** I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. **
I've had this audiobook for quite some time and have stopped and started it several times since. I had a hard time getting into it, partially because the narrator's voice was so different from how I pictured the lead character. The narrator sounds a lot older than Jaine. That was very disconcerting and the overall story was okay, but not riveting. I really wish there had been more interaction between the two love interests and more to support their relationship. This is a sweet, clean book and if you are looking for a light read, this book is for you.
I got to know of this novel from a friend of mine, JB Favour and after hearing her high reviews of the novel, I decided to give it a go.
The author really drew me in from the get-go. The interview scene where Jayne thought to herself, "this interview has just taken the a turn from fairytale land to mad hatter freeway where nothing made sense" (I do hope I quoted it right)
I'd rate it a five star.
Being a novel drawn from a fairytale, it wasn't so childish that an adult would find it boring, and it wasn't to x-rated that a child would be scarred for life reading it.
I'm so going to rear the sequel too, but don't take my word for it. Try it yourself.
This book is a contemporary light-romance story with references to a popular fairy-tale princess, Cinderella. Jaine is literally Cinderella—well, she gets to dress up and pretends to be Cinderella.
If you're looking for a great read that satisfies an internal need for a feel-good, romance then add Fooling Around With Cinderella to your to-read list. There's a lot that can be learned from Jaine's summer experiences with love, friendship, and family all while dressing up as a princess!
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Stacy Juba wrote a sweet twist on a classic. The main characters are relatable and have you routing for them. Jaine is a strong FMC who goes after a job, gets more than she wanted or expected, but learns more about herself along the way. She handles adversity with grace and brilliance. And her prince charming, Dylan, is a nice guy who gets it right in the end after a moment of doubt.
