Two lively girls find that their mother has gone on a healthy eating kick. Can they resist their hunger until it's over, or should they partake of the soup and multigrain bread, like their dad, even if they'd rather eat something more interesting?

At school, the problem of a lunchbox of fruit pales to insignificance beside the spread of bullying. The teachers insist that this is a zero tolerance school, but they do nothing about the fact that a girl had her violin's neck broken, and two kids are demanding money from everyone else.

Meanwhile the toughest guy in class turns out to have diabetes, which he manages well with regular blood tests and injections, when he's not hitting back at the bullies.

With family relationships to the fore and both good and bad examples, we can learn a lot to help us decide how to live our lives. I enjoyed reading this contemporary YA adventure and I recommend it to young adults everywhere, especially if there is a diabetic person in the family. But don't go spoiling the cake and lemonade for everyone else!
