Who really defines success? How do we define it for ourselves? Chances are, it’s not what you’ve been taught. While making money is a key goal for most, many women have come to realize that health, happiness, growth, and mentoring others are equally important in the overall equation of success; and that success rarely means the same thing for women as it does for men. With that in mind, 13 female entrepreneurs have come together to share their intimate success stories to inspire more women to take the steps toward financial independence and personal success. This book offers a unique point of view through the adventures, struggles, and joy these women experienced on their roads to success. Learn the truth about managing your own happiness, learning from mentors, shedding the myths of outward success, and caring for your business, your partners, and employees, from real women who’ve been in the trenches. These authors are passionate about supporting other women in business and in life. In this book they share that passion with you. Get inspired to redefine success for yourself, as these women share vulnerability, fears, mistakes, growth, and ultimately, success. How the Book Came to Be Ayelet (Ally) Nathaniel, owner of Ally Nathaniel eBook Publishing Services, has been helping people get their dream book into print for years. Earlier this year, she approached Sarah Walton, owner of Love by Sarah Walton and Better Way to Start the Day, about combining the stories of several women to deliver a completely new kind of book: shared stories of real success by women who’ve been in the trenches. Tired of the many “get rich quick” schemes and thinly veiled direct marketing claims of “having it all,” Ally and Sarah wanted to offer real stories of success and the truth about what success means to each woman individually. Together, they reached out to several women in their networks, and the final 13 came together. Each woman has written a chapter that tells her individual story of personal triumph, moments of grief, support, growth, and ultimately, success. This book aims to offer real-world examples of success, debunking the myth that success is only measurable by external markers. For each woman, success is defined differently, and usually through trial and error. In today’s hectic world, filled with a false sense of urgency, panic, and the need to appear perfect, Redefining Success is a welcome breath of fresh air, filled with truth, heart, and inspiration. The book was edited by Sarah Walton and Ayelet Nathaniel.

At that time, she was passing through turbulent waters being new to the U.S., having a responsibility of her newborn daughter along with the other two under five, 100% dependent on her husband for her financial needs, and not having a work visa at that time. How do you define success? Everyone has their own definition of success. For many it's climbing the corporate ladder, increasing wealth and accumulating assets. My own definition of success has changed over time. Growing up I had always been told that in order to be "A Success" you needed to climb the corporate ladder and be at the top of your field. When I chose to be a stay-at-home Mom I had to revamp my ideas of success.
"Redefining Success: Real Woman, Real Stories, Real Inspiration" edited by Sarah Walton and Ally Nathaniel, is a book that tells the stories of 14 woman who redefined their ideas of success. The stories are open and honest about their journey to finding success, documenting their stepping stones to finding their own sense of fulfillment.
Picking up the book is like sitting down and having a chat with an old friend. The stories are very personal and I'm not sure I would have the courage to speak out like some of these women. When I first started reading I was wondering, how does this relate to me? I'm "just" a stay-at-home mom. After finishing the book, I realized that I am so much more. My vision of success can be different than what your vision may be...it doesn't mean I am any less successful, I'm just a different person than you! It's time to start dropping off the "just" and say with pride and confidence that I'm a Stay-At-Home Mom.
At the end of each story is a note from Sarah and Ally (each has her own story in the book) which gives an outsiders view of the story, giving a little insight into the story and definitely giving you even more food for thought.
Take a moment to explore the "Chapter Challenge" questions. They will help you explore your own ideas of success. At the end you will find an email to connect with each woman in the book. I love this added feature. It makes the book feel even more personal and that you can ask more questions and even send a Thank-you for sharing her personal story.
The woman in each story come from different backgrounds and each has her own story to tell. There are some underlying similarities, but each woman discovers her path to success in her own unique way.
All too often we let others define how we feel about ourselves. I think the story that had the biggest impact on me is the story of Jennifer Dawn - "The Time To Be Happy Is Now". While I couldn't relate to her circumstances she has a very strong message about being happy, and that has stuck.
"I used to fall into the trap of thinking: When my business makes a million dollars, then I'll be happy. When I finally meet the right man, then I'll be happy. When I lose 10 pounds, then I'll be happy. And you know what? Waiting for something to happen before I could be happy was crap. My time to be happy is now."

How often do we wait to be happy? She is 100% correct! We need to take charge of our happiness, and the time to start is now! All to often we rely on others to feel good about ourselves. We let the world determine our value and success instead of making that determination for ourselves. We need to step and take charge of our own destiny.
"Redefining Success: Real Woman, Real Stories, Real Inspiration" is a book written by real women living their everyday lives. It is a source of inspiration for anyone looking to find their place in this world.

I would have liked to see more diversity on the paths to success that were presented. It's safe to say that a few slices of the pie were presented. There's only about a dozen stories! That being said, each story taken by itself was largely inspiring and these are all women who have worked hard and smart and defined for herself what she wanted and how that would look. It's not a "how to", but a "we did it, how about you" sort of book. Very honest and personal.
