My name is Lo Knight.
I am possibly the worst person in the world.
All I wanted was for them to disappear.
I killed my parents.
Heath Mavrick has a claim on me that can’t be touched. He is a free soul, a wild card, but he was the tiny spark that caught my whole world on fire and brought it all crumbling down into a pile of ashes. I cut him from my life, and, in turn I lost the love I loved the most.

Change is hard, especially if it’s being forced.
So when life gives you a second chance, you take it. You make it right. You play it safe. You don’t fall for a dangerous street racer. I was warned.
Never date the bad-boy, tattooed, asshole, and Talon is all three.

The names Talon Baylor.
I’m great-looking, hot-blooded, and worshipped.
I don’t ask. I just take. I love competition and I never lose.
Me? I’m numero uno
Okay, okay, I know what you’re thinking.
I’m a bossy dominant prick.
There, you happy? I said it.
There’s a new blonde in town that I’ve made a promise to stay away from, but I can’t. When she turned me down, she made this a challenge, and if I wasn’t interested before I certainly am now. She can resist all she wants, but in the end, I always get my little trophy.

Rebekah Rue was born in Dolton, Illinois, but now lives in Florida with her husband and two kids. She attended Polk State College where she graduated with a license as a Registered Nurse and works as a surgical nurse. She writes when she can, which according to her husband is every blinking second.
Of course she loves to read. She reads about as much love, angst, cocky alpha males, and love triangles she can get her hands on.

Rebekah is a severe chocoholic (she swears it's what keeps her skinny). She loves watersports, sunshine, exercising, traveling, and Disney. Beaten was her debut novel and recently featured in Maryse's Book Blog as 'What to read after Arsen or Thoughtless'.

I struggled with this book. I think after having read a few genuine 5 star reads and a long string of solid 4s, that I might be being too picky. That said, this book needs a lot of editing, and the heroine, Lo, is annoyingly inconsistent throughout the book. Her parents were killed in a car accident caused by street racing, yet she goes to street races and only feels the slightest bit of anxiety about the well-being of her friend. Um… okay?
Despite all this, the reason for my low rating is because I cannot stand books where the hero or heroine cheats, especially after they’ve “fallen in love”. She doesn’t even really have growth after the fact. She doesn’t feel bad, except to feel worried that she’ll get caught. I also would be kind of okay with the cheating if she dumped the boyfriend in order to be with the other guy, because of “true love” or something. Instead she strings them both along, despite “loving” both of them. She lies to both of them, and honestly, the writing isn’t good enough that I couldn’t really tell if she’s even capable of love, let alone feeling it for either of them. It’s been a while since a romance unintentionally made me so mad, and I guess it’s nice to know that I’m still capable of feeling this emotion towards an inanimate object.

Oh, boy. Where do I start? Jesus... Ok.
6 stars.
I read this three days ago, in one sitting, and I still feel as heartbroken and 'beaten' as I did the moment I flipped the last page. This book took away a huge piece of me that I know I will never get back. It is by far the BEST book I have read this month and one of the best of the YEAR. This book... it has successfully left me hollow, a sad excuse of a functioning human being. I should've known I would be feeling exactly like the girl on the cover. Foreshadowing in it's most agonizing way.
Rebekah is a debut author (I know, WHAT?!) and this book has forever made her a favorite author of mine. Even if I will never forgive her for the fact that she gave me something so incredibly precious to believe in and yanked it away from me without warning.
I went into this book without knowing ANYTHING except the title and the main character's name. So, you see my surprise and utter grief when she slams me with a GIANT curb-ball that will forever leave me raw and exposed. I can't even think about the details of what she did without busting out in shoulder-shaking sobs. Rebekah completely betrayed my trust but to be fair, that's exactly what I look for in an amazing author. I felt like she forced me to give up on something I worked so incredibly hard to achieve.
Everything I do and see reminds me of this book. Every song I listen to reminds me of the betrayal I had to go through in order to review this. I was feeling so destroyed that I didn't even want to keep reading. I was actually considering it but didn't feel it fair to the author... or me. I can't not finish a book. I wanted to put it away and hold on to the first half of the novel and completely forget the last part.
This book is told in Lo's (the main character) perspective and Talon, a street racer.
Lo: I liked her a lot. I could feel her loneliness and pain as if it were my own. She went through tragedies that nobody should go through and I respected her for trying to overcome them.
Talon: Oh, sweet Talon. Talon's one of the rawest male POV's I've stumbled upon and by far my favorite. I fell madly in love with him. His character development was utter perfection. It gave me so much hope and for that, he earned my complete respect as well. It warmed me up inside and not just because he was full of sexual tension. Holy, gods the sexual tension. It was through the roof! If I wasn't crying, I was fanning myself from all the heat.
Anyway, my heart is completely heavy with disappointment. Not at the book. The book was perfect in a painful way. I'm disappointed at one of the character's actions. That character had my respect and they threw it all away. Not once, but repeatedly. I don't know how I will ever get over this feeling but I shall continue this series nonetheless.
This book has some explicit content so I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't over the age of 18.

Beaten was a book I received for finishing my Indie Pledge. I knew nothing about the book, but that it was written by a debut author Rebekah Rue. This was fortunate for me, because this is one of those books that are best read blind going in.

The three main characters are Lo Knight, who is an only child, that has been raised in a very sheltered upbringing and overly protected her entire life, to the point that she just wants her parents to go away and leave her alone, so be careful of what you wish for or live the rest of your life in guilt and grief. Heath Maverick and Talon Baylor are both good looking bad-boys, tattooed, and hot blooded, but different in so many other ways. You will hate and love all these characters as you read their story.

This story starts out with very teenager “coming of age” theme, but swiftly that changes to a “young adult” type book, so not appropriate for anyone under 18. There is a “very” complicated love triangle.

I was so surprised how good the writing debut of this author was to read. It reminded me of Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens, and I ran through about all the same emotions. It also could be listed in the list of “What to read after Arsen” by Mia Asher. The second part of this book is that good!

I really enjoyed most of the relationship between Lo and Talon. It looked as though there was healing taking place...but then, things changed. I have trouble reading any kind of book or watching movies with relationships where people don't communicate and where there is cheating (and lying about it/hiding it). I have such a strong relationship with my husband (he's my best friend and we talk about everything - everything), which makes it hard to related to stories like this.

It was well written. Don't use my opinion of relationships to sway you from reading it.

Beaten is the debut novel of the author and let me tell you she don’t disappoint at all. The story is well written filled with every single emotions. I love the way the author brought the characters (all of them) together. The story was intrigued and twisted and turned and held my attention from the start to finish. If you are looking for a great read, and little bit different this is the one. I found myself saying one more chapter until I reach the end. Beaten is a story of a girl that was finding what she really was and need to herself. A little hard to not love both!!! (Spoiler). But Lo is a different heroin that makes my heart angst. The story was beyond and better than I expected, from the beginning to end. I cannot wait for more of your writing. I meet you in this wonderful world of book friends and you captivated me, keep going!!!
And this OMG!!!!!

Just finished my ARC of Beaten
Coming November 21st.
Story of lose, love, forgiveness and finding yourself.
I was all over the place emotional with this book.
One minute I was laughing out loud from Lo's crazy best friend Maggie, Lusting over Talon, Swooning over Heath and wanting to shake the hell out of Lo!!
This story is a gritty and raw love triangle.
It will have you in a ball of sexual frustration one minute and the next minute... In complete and utter shock. By the time you get to the end of this book, you will wonder what the heck just happened.
This book lives you with a cliffhanger... I will biting my nails with anticipation for the next book.

I loved this book until about 65% and then I don't know what the hell happened....I feel like I just read two completely different stories, and I hated the second one. I'm sorry, the first half of the book was amazing and I was falling in love with the characters, but the second half of the book was a clusterf***.

Buy and Read. Angst!!!!! My favorite vibe in a book. This book broke my heart; made me cry; made me hold my breath; I smiled and was sincerely appreciative of the direction in the relationships in this story. I loved that it covered a lot of time but was not rushed. Anxiously awaiting Heath.!!!!

This is Rebekah Rue's debut novel and let me tell you, it was fan-freaking-tastic!! This book is full of angst and will have you wanting to know exactly what is happening next. Add in Lo who sure knows how to stand on her own two feet after everything life has thrown at her and two alpha males by the name of Talon and Heath and you're pretty much set.... Need I say more? No but seriously Lo learned so much about herself from both guys and finds herself in the middle of a love triangle... But at the end learns to find herself which is the greatest lesson to learn! I can't wait for the next one and Rebekah just totally nailed this book!!!

Rating 3/5 stars.

The book started off slow in the beginning but then I really started to fall in love with Talon and Lo's story. Until about 60% in when Heath came back into the picture

I like Talon and Lo together why do you have to ruin his character?!

It turned into a mess, I like their character at the beginning and Lo and Talon make me smile. But why Lo become a two timer I hated what they become at the end then Talon got addicted to drugs.

I still want to read the second book to know how will you fix them though Heath is a good man but Talon and Lo got the chemistry but eventually broke the chemistry in the end.

Just no

I hate these books labeled as romance. This is not a romance. It's like the author just screws with you the whole time. Throws everything horrible into one book. I got so invested into the heroine healing to find out she really didn't. At the end I hated her, I hated heath and I feel talon was done completely wrong. Dont waste your time, there is no resolution at all.

Beaten by Rebekah Rue is a super intense, exciting, nail biting story about love, friendship, and loss.

Let me start by saying my heart is broken and this book left me feeling all kinds of emotions. In a good way! I can honestly say that you will never be ready for some of the things Rebekah throws at you. Beaten was so intense that I could not, and would not, stop reading til I finished the book.

This book is about a young girl , Lo, who lives with extremely strict parents. When they die, she blames their death on herself. She moves away to live with her best friend Maggie, leaving her first love, Heath, without any notice. Lo soon meets a big ladies man named Talon. Talon knows that Lo is enough to tame him and it is instant attraction. Lo saves Talon.

"You fell to me from heaven and have become my heart. I love you."

One day, Lo's first love comes to town. Is Lo's love for Talon strong enough to survive once Heath is back in the picture?

I was so emotionally attached to the characters. Lo was extremely relatable and I cried with her, laughed with her, loved with her, and hated with her. Now Talon, that boy is PERFECT. He changes completely for Lo, and is willing to go above and beyond for her.

This book made me so happy and so sad. It was perfect though. The story was so perfect and I loved it so much! I highly recommend this book!

The Synopsis

Lo knight has learned to be careful what you wish for. With her parents dead and bad boy Heath Mavrick just cut from her life, she is a mess. When shes handed a second chance and falls for another bad boy street racer, this time named Talon Baylor, what will she do? Talon is a bossy, dominant, prick who always gets his trophy. And Lo is his trophy.

The Review

Told in alternating POV's, this book shook me to my very core. From the HOTTTTT sexual tension, down to the betrayal, I could not pry myself off of this book. While I think this is more geared as a YA, due to the sexual nature nature in this book I would say preferable 18 and up, but that's just my opinion. Rebekah did a wonderful job of world building as i was sucked into this very story and could literally feel myself screaming at the characters and wanting to slap the sense into some of them. The book came to a halting end as I was left in the floor screaming WTF?!?!?!?! (not in bad way). I wanted so bad to pick up a second book immediately and see what happens but unfortunately, i do not have it... :( I mean holy moly with the curve balls thrown in this book! I stayed on edge the entire time and was left with very raw emotions. This book is well written and can't wait to read more from this author. Thank you Rebekah for sending me this book in exchange for my honest review.

Mixed feelings.

A few spoilers but I'll try to keep it to a minimum.

First of all let me say that if cheating is not your thing, don't read this book. I'm not a big fan of it and that's partial reason for the 3 stars.

My other reason is, Talon. We read about him like 75% of the book and then all of a sudden, he's nothing. Nadda. He gets dumped away as if a secondary character. I don't get it. I absolutely loved him and he loved Lo so much. Yes he was fighting his own demons but so was she. I started to hate Lo then. She was such a hypocrite. Took her a long time to open up and nobody pressured her. What a waste. Why build him up if he's not to make it in the end.

If the other guy was meant to be, I would have loved to read more about him. We get bits and pieces but that's it. That's what really threw me off. He does have his own book coming out though. Maybe I'll like him more in the next book.

Anywho I guess the book is good for anyone who is into love triangles and a lot of angst. You'll want to strangle one or more characters by the end of the book lol!!!

Rebekah Rue is a new to me author, and after reading this book, I can't wait for whatever she writes next. Lo is a sweet girl, who has an unfortunate run in with a douche bag boy. She lets it get her down until she meets her new BFF Maggie who teaches her not to take anyone's crap. Finally, out of high school she finds her first love, and learns to live a little outside of the strict rules her parents have set until one tragic night takes it all away.

Ready to put the past where it belongs, Lo takes off for a new life in Florida with Maggie. Only things don't go as planned when she catches the interest of a hot man whore named Talon. Friends only, that's the rule but things get messy when feelings develop.

Just when everything seems to be going right between Lo and Talon she does the worst thing imaginable, and it makes me want to reach in my kindle and strangle her!

This book is a heck of a ride, and I did not see that ending coming! Read it, and find out what I'm rambling on about. lol

When I stated the book I did not connect with Lo but I wanted to see what happens so I kept on reading .... At some point about 80 pg in I wanted to put the book in DNF folder . I did not like or care for Lo she was a B... and acted like a child.

How do you go from telling one guy you love him and Fu..k him and then few hours later you do the same with another ....

I liked Talon their was nothing wrong with him as she called him or their relationship toxic it was all her when she was happy and in love with Talon until Heath come back into her life .

Like both alpha males .

I know next book is about Heath and Lo and not sure i can stand her to read it we will see when it comes out.

One thing I hate with pure passion is cheating in books and Lo did it in double dose.

And the final nail in the coffin for me was making Talon the bad guy (junkie ) so not fair

One star for Lo and the only reason it two because of Talon and Heath !!!!

To be honest, the first of the story felt a little rushed.
After Lo moved to FL, I felt Heath would make an appearance at some point.
Love Talon.
Who doesn't love the tattood bad boy? Ha. He's hiding a story that we never got to hear.. There's your next story!

Once the story flips about 60% in, I lose all interest in Lo.
To me, I didn't feel she and Heath had the connection Talon and Lo did. I was more invested in Lo and Talon.
I can't stand someone who can cheat and cheat.. Can't have your cake and eat it too, girl.

Would I read the next story about Heath? Sure. But I prefer a Talon story

I thought this was a really great debut novel. I went into this one blind. I didn't read the synopsis, so I was a bit surprised and worried about the love triangle aspect. I'm not a huge love triangle reader. But once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I don't want to give too much away but I will say overall I enjoyed this read. There were instances where I wanted more from the story and the characters. But I'm a greedy reader, I always want more when I enjoy a story. I can't wait to read more from Rebekah Rue and to see how she grows as a writer. Team Talon!!! 3.5 - 4 stars

Read this in a day. The story had me hooked immediately. I loved the humor in this book. The relationship between Maggie and Lo was priceless! I wish that Lo had better judgement later in the book. Her choices really pissed me off and sorta made me feel sick. I'm not one to read about cheating. I get too emotionally invested in the characters and think about the pain too much.

I think for her first book Rebekah did an excellent job! I'm hoping for more stories that do not involve cheating. I would be all about that!

I really can't go into too much detail about why I absolutely loved and hated this book at the same time. If I did, I'd ruin the entire story for you. I had words with her shortly after I finished it, because frankly I was still trying to process my feelings. I will say that this book left me spent from taking me on a highly emotional rollercoaster ride. Beaten is a fantastic debut novel from the lovely Rebekah Rue, and I look forward to reading more of her work.

I almost stop reading this book. There's a part of it that I got bored and I began to hate Lo for doing what she's doing. But I'm glad I continued! The ending was what I'm expecting for Lo to become. She finally learned what she has to do with her life. The end came with a cliffhanger and so I already want to read the next book.
I thought she will have her happily-ever-after with Talon coz he's a good man. But nevertheless, I respect the author for the path she chose with the characters.

Wow! Just Wow! This book was an emotional rollercoaster and so good! I'd say it was a perfect blend of Thoughtless and Beautiful Disaster. I loved Talon so much and he broke my heart. It had all the feels and loved the writing style! Though I didn't get my HEA, I got my happy for now and I can't wait until Heath's book comes out!!!

Such a good read.

This book is one of my favorite books. Sometimes you have to leave to let go of one thing to find your happily ever after. For Lo she has experienced more heartbreak in her young life then anyone could handle. This is a well written book read with tissues.
