I was addicted to this book from the second I started. It was captivating, the characters are wonderfully done. I love amount of back story there is in order to give the main characters depth. The plot moved along quickly and keeps you interested, there was one twist that I guessed very early on, but I did have to question my assumption a couple of times.

This book also left me with questions, but in a good way. Such as I'd enjoy a sequel, or just a book that's written in the same place but from someone else's point of view.

Just a heads up there are several explicit scenes of a sexual nature if that isn't your thing you probably shouldn't read this book.

I received Reckless Games compliments of Net Galley for my honest review which is freely given.

I am absolutely NOT a fan of the 50 Shades type of book. The billionaire, the saga, the contrived angst. But I actually really liked this one. I bought it from a Book Bub link and thought it was a standalone based on the description. It actually could be since it has a completed mystery arc by the end. But there will be more to come and I’m actually on board for at least the next book. No one could be more surprised by that than I.

The story is about Lucy, a scientist/professor/inventor’s daughter who is grieving over her father’s suicide. She’s certain he was murdered, however, and she’s decided (based on some evidence) that billionaire Rhys Carlisle is the culprit, so she’s been following him around. Of course, they meet up and the attraction zings around the room, blah blah blah. The setups are kind of dopey and, yes, seriously contrived, but the writing itself is pretty good.

I knew who the guilty party was early on, but I didn’t get too frustrated with Lucy not figuring it out. I mean, why would she? The romance itself was a bit thin as far as actually sitting and talking was concerned, but the sex scenes are hot. The chemistry is there, I just would have enjoyed some actual non-sex time to cement that element.

So, color me shocked. I actually like an offering in this genre that I swore I’d never read. Open minds reap rewards, right?

This crazy and wild book reminded of a cross between Pretty Woman and 50 Shades of Gray. Saying I LOVED it is not enough to express how much it enthralled me. Every page was a new revelation. I was mesmerized by Rhys and could not wait to see him grow into the man I knew he could be. As for "Tuesday" I thought she was an exceptional main character. Together they were a passionate explosion. Don't expect to get much sleep once starting this book. I really hated to see it end!

I laughed a real belly laugh in the first two pages, and that's how i knew i was going to have a blast! Well written, with a very creative story, characters that are deep, emotional, funny, sexy, charismatic, witty and loyal, with plots and twists that make your head turn, this book will be impossible to put down!!! I really was impressed with the writing skills of M.J. lowell, the heat and sexiness of the romance side of the book was spot on, and the thrilling, ploting, suspense and mystery building, were smooth but intense, exposed but devious, keeping you on your toes and breathless, worthy of an experienced action writter!! My only bad point was the end! Too abrupt, cut too short! There is so much more to know!!!! What happened to Nico? What is Marina after? How did she get the clothes? Where was he? What happened to Joff? No, no, no... I really hope there is a sequel!!!!? If no i demand one! This story has too much potential to finish like this! So while i wait for a sequel i can only say this book is an amazing read, that will please romance and alpha lovers as much as mystery solvers!!! Two thumbs up high in the air!!!!!

Wow, this book was so much more than I was expecting. It has a little bit of everything, mystery, intrigue, hot sex and a great unique storyline. Lucy is trying to figure out what really happened to her father, and her information leads her to Rhys, a sexy playboy gamer billionaire. When circumstances make her save his life, she is invited into his world to play his games and abide by his rules. Reckless Games kept me on my toes, right up to the very end. The characters and situations were intense and interesting. They made me realize you can't judge a person by what you hear. I hope there is more to come by this captivating author.

In relationships, there are all kinds of games. Exhilarating games. Dangerous games. Reckless games. Lucy Flannigan gets a call saying her brilliant inventor father has died, the police say it was suicide but her gut says it was murder. Rhys Carlyle is a player in every sense of the word. Ruthlessly ambitious, he has an insatiable appetite for power and beauty – and he lets nothing stand between him and what he wants. When Lucy saves him from a freak plot on his life, Rhys decides that what he wants is her.

Lucy suspects Rhys holds the key to the mystery of her father's death – but to unlock it, she’ll have to play his games. What begins as a quest for the truth quickly becomes something more and Lucy is soon out of her comfort zone, out of her depth.

By the time Lucy learns the explosive truth, it's not just her heart that hangs in the balance, it's her life. This was a wonderful debut novel for this author. I loved the mystery aspect of what happened to Lucy’s father. She is the only one who believes it wasn’t suicide but how can she prove it when all she has to go on is some mysterious phone calls from her father’s lab to the man playing the games, Rhys Carlyle.

Lucy becomes a detective to try and figure out if the mysterious Mr. Carlyle is hiding something. This book kept me guessing the entire way through, which I love. One minute you think you have it all figured out then the next you start thinking maybe her father really did take his own life. When she decides to play Rhys’ game, she gets so much more than she bargained for.

He opens her eyes to desire and passion that she has kept hidden away inside of her. She opens his heart to feelings he thought he never wanted. Sometimes the rules to the game are made to be broken. I am really hoping there will be a follow up novella or novel to clarify a few loose ends but even if that doesn't happen,

I am really satisfied with how the novel played out.

This book definitely captured my attention from the very beginning. I was intrigued with the mystery of it from the get go. I love Lucy and how she is willing to do anything at all to find out what happened to her father. Even if that means walking into the fire with the most notorious playboy around, Mr. Rhys Carlyle. And man oh man does Rhys catch your attention. He is nothing short of intense and extremely hot. I kinda thought I had it figured out early on, but found myself questioning that a few times throughout. I wish we would have had a little more to the ending. I felt like there was this build up for a huge ending and wish it had lasted longer. It was like BAM then the end. For that reason I am giving this a 4 star rating.

Meg's Review:
I got this review request  right before its release and didn't get a chance for ear it until now. Right about now I am regretting that. This novel was FANTASTIC. M.J. blew me out of the water.

I love a novel that can fill me with emotional extremes and not have it feel force. I don't know if that makes much sense though. Let me see if I can be clearer. All in the course of one paragraph, I can go from laughing historically at Lucy and her antics, to being on the endue of me seat with what is happening. You go form giggling at a conversation, to being hot and bothered from the palpable tension between the characters. It takes good skill on the authors part to make this seamless, and M.J does it with ease. Wonderful.

Now the story. Lucy is not he hunt for her father's murderer, and Rys is her first clue. She just wants the truth and is determined to get it any way she can. If that means stalking and lying are in the cards, then so be it.

What Lucy doesn't see coming is her intense attraction to this mysterious man. This man that she needs to get information out of. This man that could be her father's killer.

RecklessGamesTeaser

See? That is the type of writing that has me antsy to see where the story is going.

The plot in this novel was one that gives you some clues as to where its going, but still catches you by surprise at some great spots. I had my ideas what the end game was going to be, but I didn't see a few big twists towards the end. I know some people hate having an idea where a novel is going, but I didn't mind with this novel. Even if you were told at the very start where it was going, you would still have a book filled with parts you had no idea about. It keeps you on your toes waiting for whats happening next.

An emotion filled read that ranges from laughter to fear, this novel lives up to its name. It plays games with you while you are enthralled in the games its characters are playing. A Must Read Debut Novel from this Must Watch Author.

I can't wait for book two.

So what is it about?:

Lucy Flannigan

description

is in her final year of music school when she finds out that her father had committed suicide...Or at least was it?..

Now wanting answers, Lucy goes on a quest to find out what really happened to her father and her only hope to finding any is none other than rich business mogul, Rhys Carlyle, after fate steps in and she is forced to save his life.

So Rhys…

description

Rhys Carlyle has it all: immense wealth, power, connections, and an endless bounty of women. He is a highly ambitious fella and has no plans of stopping.

When a chance encounter weaves Lucy Flannigan into his life, he just may have met his latest muse as she encompasses two things he holds priority in his life: beauty and domination.

Relentless to possess her, Rhys invites Lucy into his world in assistance to uncovering the truth, only, she has to play by his games and abide by his rules.

With this, Lucy embarks on a journey with startling and riveting revelations that things may not always be as them seem to be.

What will become of Lucy? Will she uncover the truth behind her father’s death? Was it really a suicide? Or was it murder? And how does Rhys play into it if any?

But most importantly, will she gain or lose from all of this?

Lucy has to tread carefully or else she could end up gambling her own heart… her own life…. and then: GAME OVER.

#Get ready for a story packed with steam, suspense, fear, seduction, twists guys! Reckless Games was an innovative read that just needed to work on the super awkward ending, but, other than that it was very impressive.

Great job, M.J. Lowell! And let the games begin!

The mystery and romance will captivate the reader.

Lucy Flannigan is determined to uncover what really happened to her dear father. She is certain that he was not the kind of man to commit suicide. Nor did she understand the connection between billionaire Rhys Carlyle and her father. Fortunately, her strong willed personality would not let this go and she must find her father’s murderer.

There certainly is instant chemistry between Lucy/Tuesday and Rhys. She decides to play his game all in the name of finding the truth behind her father’s death. You really can’t help but like Lucy and you want to believe in Rhys. Without realizing they open up their hearts to each other.

Her honest dialogue draws the reader into her adventure to say the least. As well, the images of New York City walked off the pages drawing the reader into the setting.

Lucy and Rhys’ story is not finished. Looking forward to the sequel.

The subject matter may not be suitable for a younger reader.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book. I truly enjoyed this book! Having never heard of this author, I was a little skeptical. It took a bit for the story to pull me in but once it did, I was intrigued. The story had just enough mystery and sexiness to keep you engaged. The story was paced very well. I didn't feel it was redundant like some other books I have read. I liked the characters - felt like I knew them a bit. Lucy was down to earth and out on a mission to figure out what happened to her dad. I admired her bravery. Val is the friend everyone wishes they had - supportive, encouraging, helpful. Rhys was sexy and mysterious. The only thing that disappointed me about this book was the ending. Way to abrupt for me! I kept flicking my screen thinking it couldn't be the end and hoping my nook was just acting crazy! Hopefully in the real version there will at least be an epilogue or maybe there will be another book to follow? I want to know what happens with Lucy and Rhys and also what happened to Nico!!

Overall, the book was a good read and one that I would recommend to others. I will look forward to more from this author.

"ARC received for honest review"

This book had my head spinning, what an interesting plot. Having Lucy trying to find what happened to her father and the only clue she's got is Rhys the richest man in the video game world. What she didn't expected is that she would have to play his game, in order to find out what really happened, but attraction came in the way. On the other hand, Rhys never thought he would meet Lucy and find out that he really wanted her.

The plot is quite interesting, I felt the ending a bit rushed and would've love to read more about it. I think everyone will enjoy this book if they are into mystery as I am.

Will be looking forward for more of M.J. Lowell books in the future.

WOW! Captivating I think that is the best word for this book. I could not put it down. it had it all murder, mystery, love! It incorporates kink without going overboard. The plot is easy to follow and moves at just the right pace. Each of the characters has just enough story to let you get to know them without felling overwhelmed with history. However, the ending left me hanging! think the ending conversation needed to explain more bu that just me! Hope there are not like it because I would absolutely read!

Well, well, this was a nice surprise... For a first book, not bad, Ms. Lowell, not bad...

Firstly, I just noticed that this fell under romance and suspense here on GR as of time of writing. I think it needs to be updated. This was categorized as erotica on Netgalley, as it should be, I thought, given some of the scenes, and perhaps a small(?) disclaimer since there was a scene . Maybe?

The story itself, I saw a small trace of FSoG and other better known books in this subgenre, but I think Ms. Lowell did manage to weave a different story to make it fresh. It's got enough of a nice twist to it, making you wonder what everyone's deal is, although your guess will probably be right in the end. For me, both H&h have enough dimension to them. How I know that is because the h made decisions that I didn't agree with yet she didn't annoy me, which means I understood her. And the H, well, he is hawt! LOL

The flow of conversation went smoothly, whether b/w H&h or b/w the MC(s) and secondary characters. And speaking of secondary characters, they have just as much personality to make you remember them, which I appreciate. The narrative did feel jumpy at times. Oh, and the formatting was off in some pages, not sure why.

Lastly, I agree with other reviews out there when they said that the events felt rushed by the end and that the ending itself, which is , was too abrupt. It would've been nice to have gotten more/better answers to some things, and there were a lot of unanswered questions so if this is a series, it may have been nice to be advised as such. And if that's the case, I would totally read it.

Again, given that this is Ms. Lowell's first book, I say not bad at all. I can see the potential and hopefully, Ms. Lowell will only improve from here on... And on an unrelated side, reading Ms. Lowell's bio, I say you can't go wrong with a gal who likes Pitch Perfect=)

I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest opinion. Even though I leaned more toward a 3.5 I went with the 4

For a first time author I will say I was very impressed with this book, and I look forward to the next one to see how this story will play out. For the most part the writing flows well and keeps you wanting to know more. The sex scenes were really good and I enjoyed the chemistry between Rhys and Lucy (Tuesday), I liked that even though this book is a romance/drama/suspense, there are still some moments that are witty, funny and charming. There is also that bit of angst that we all hate but crave at the same time, and while I thought I had things figured out I still was not positive till the end that I was right.
Rhys Carlyle is rich, sexy, secretive and has a kinky side. Lucy aka Tuesday is looking for answers to her father’s death, she’s a musician who works as a DJ. She has linked Rhys to her father and begins to follow him around in order to learn what really happened to her father. They begin a game of seduction, but can Lucy play Rhys game and not fall for him?
This story is filled with intrigue and a “who done it” style with a FSOG feel to it. I look forward to more from this author

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book it intrigued me and made me laugh. The heroine Lucy or Tuesday does not believe her scientist father killed himself so she sets out to find the truth. She stalks handsome billionaire Rhys Carlyle and ends up entangled in his game.

She battles with her feelings towards him not knowing if he is behind the death of her father whilst falling for his seduction techniques.

I liked her as a character both showing her vulnerability and confidence. She faced her fears and conquered her insecurities.

Rhys I felt could have been more detailed as a character. I wanted to know more about his background and previous relationships.

The story also ended quite abruptly leaving questions in relation to her fathers death and the status of the relationship. I felt this could have been explored more thoroughly.

I did enjoy this and would recommend it to others.

Thanks for the opportunity to read!

Ok, two things kept this book from an otherwise easy five stars:

1. Really abrupt, somewhat cheesy ending.
2. Depth of relationship. By which, I mean, I just found it hard to believe the two characters actually liked each other. It's like, the book said it, so it must be. I never really got WHY they liked each other, just that they did. And that definitely took a very, very important element away from the book.

And an otherwise amazing book it was. I mean, it added a whole new element to the simple-girl-falls-for-an-erotic-rich-boy-tycoon plot: a murder mystery. It was like two books wrapped into one. For anybody that likes the Fifty Shades types of romance, I definitely think you'll enjoy this one!

Received as an Arc from Netgalley

I definitely enjoyed the book. Has all the elements of a good mystery as well as the bits of a romance.
I do find that the characters could be built.upon a little more. The ending left a bit to be desired. It just ends. Perhaps we can have a novella or even a sequel to add more to the relationship... or perhaps get more into the underpinings of the betrayals portrayed in the book.

All in ll it was a good book. I would recommend to others as an enjoyable read.

Without a doubt, five stars for this story of romance, sex and intrigue. I've never heard of the author before, her first book I believe, but she's a master of words, up there with the best famous authors around. Beautifully written with excellent dialogue. The scene with the rose petals was a classic which I read twice, but I'm not giving anything away . . . read it!

I genuinely struggled with how to rate this book. Even now, I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it.

The story follows Lucy, a DJ and violinist who is struggling with her inventor father's death which had been ruled a suicide. She is convinced that her father is murdered, and discovers a connection to Rys, a mysterious billionaire. Is he involved in her fathers death? Can she stay objective as her attraction to him grows?

Things I liked: Lucy. It's hard to get a decent h these days so I'm always pleased to find a character you can actually connect with. Lucy is determined, vulnerable, funny and genuinely likeable. I actually cared about what she is going through and even her few TSTL moments didn't ruin her for me. You really gets sense of her turmoil as she mourns for her father while falling for a person she fears might be involved.

I also enjoyed the mystery aspect of the story. At first glance, this story could seem standard by the numbers fair: billionaire H, more innocent h to be corrupted by his er...appetites....but this element lifted the story outside the norm and added an interesting thread to the plot.

The writing style was also good. I liked the author's voice and found the writing genuinely engaging.

What I didn't like: the romance was a little lacking. The characters had good chemistry but it wasn't really developed enough. This may also have been contributed to by the fact that Rhys wasn't sufficiently fleshed out for me. I liked his character, he had an interesting backstory but he was a bit two dimensional; I needed more.

I also wasn't expecting the 50 shadesesque aspect of the story. I hate to immediately label it this way but it did feel like it borrowed a bit from that story: billionaire, dungeon room etc. It's not my favourite theme and it culminates in a group scene that I definitely hadn't anticipated and did not enjoy.

Another issue was that while I really did enjoy the mystery aspect of the book, I can't say that I was surprised by the outcome. It was a little too obvious and I would have liked if this could have been developed more.

I think my biggest problem with the book was that it needed to be longer. I felt like a number of threads of the story were underdeveloped and a bit rushed. There was Rhys's brother-this aspect sort of disappeared without any further detail or resolution. Lucy's ex-we got resolution of a kind but it was rushed and kind of shoehorned in. Rhys's ex-we only learn her name really but she still appears at the end for some last minute conflict. I didn't get this as we hadn't been given any real insight into her or her relationship with Rhys throughout the story.

Then there is the ending. The book literally just stops. It certainly didn't feel finished to me and while there is a resolution of a kind there was quite a lot left to be wrapped up which was forgotten about.

There was a lot to like about this story, and I definitely would try this author again, but I do think there are a number of areas that could be improved on.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Reckless Games and I have to say, it really surprised me and captured my undivided attention from the beginning.

Lucy Flannigan, aka Tuesday Granite, is on a mission to find out the truth behind her father's death. In her heart she really believes that he was murdered, but everyone else says he committed suicide. Lucy has put her life on hold since his death, feeling she really has nothing left to live for.

My heart truly went out to her. Lucy thinks she has figured out who has the answers she seeks – Rhys Carlyle, a billionaire gamer playboy, whose every move she has been "stalking" so she can get close to him and confront him.

Oh Rhys! He's a damaged soul, trying to forget his past and seeking comfort wherever he may get it – especially from married woman. Because of that Lucy comes to his "rescue" and is able to save his life and from there the "games" begin.

There is plenty of humor in how Lucy handles Rhys, especially when she starts getting feisty with him!! Rhys challenges her in every way as well, and the sexual tension… Wow, let me just say that it was dripping! I thought I had it figured out and knew who was responsible, but I was wrong. And when I did found out, I was left with my mouth open!

Reckless Games had a lot of humor, passion, mystery and suspense, and the sex…well, that was sizzling. It certainly did not disappoint! Can't wait for what M. J. Lowell has in stored for us next. ~ Kara, 5 stars

This book definitely captured my attention from the first sentence. It started of quite funny. The characters were well developed. Had enough back story to support the rest of the plot. I loved Lucy’s dedication and sole will to find out who murdered her father. Even if it meant that she was walking right into the arms of the playboy Rhys Carlyle. And boy did Rhys catch your attention. The man is nothing short of intense and pleasure just by looking at him. I loved the interaction between Rhys and Lucy. It’s always a thrill to read.

There was just enough mystery to keep the story going but there was a twist in the story that I guessed very early on in the book but there were times, which I did start to doubt myself. I would have liked a little more on Rhys ex-girlfriend and what had happened there. And I was a little disappointed with the ending. It was quite abrupt and short. Like what happened? Was the murderer going to just get away? I would really like it if there was another book after this.

This book was intense till the end.

I've had this book on my Kindle for a long time, received it from Netgalley and it got lost among the shuffle. Let's start with the cover, it implies sexy but seems vague. The storyline has a strong suspenseful and mysterious base with this awkward Fifty Shades thing happening. I was intrigued by the mystery of Rhys, her father's death and weirdo Nico. The intimacy wasn't really intimate but trying too hard for shock value.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. The synopsis for this book had me intrigued so when I got the chance to read I jumped in and I am so glad I did.
This had the feel of a CSI type story with some drama and added heat from the main characters sexual attraction.

Lucy Flannigan's father has just died and the authorities believe it to be suicide, but Lucy's gut feeling says it was murder and she will find out who is responsible.
Rhys Carlyle is owner and CEO of a games company and was one on the last people to speak to Lucy's day her before he died, so he becomes the prime suspect for her. She follows him like some kind of stalker and finds herself in the position of hearing his owner murder plot. using this she heads into his apartment to confront and tell him and this is where their relationship starts.

Rhys doesn't do relationships or LOVE, he plays, everything is a game.... a game that he wants to play with Lucy.

Although she knows this is a bad idea but if she wants to find out whether Rys is involved she must also play his game.
Changing her name to Tuesday Granite, Rhys monopolises her time with sexy, hot games in the bedroom while sending her gifts through her best friends workplace.

adding to Lucy's plan we are introduced to her funny best friend Val that adds a new dimension to the story and her almost brother/long time friend Nico that worked with her father before he died.

As her plan continues she ends up with more questions than answers... is Rhys really the murderer or someone else? you have to read to find out.

Well written with great characters made this an enjoyable read.

Sleazy Porno Trash

The author is obviously trying to be the next Fifty Shades of Grey bestseller. I don't know if she'll succeed. Though I am ashamed to admit that I read the entire first book of Grey, mainly at the urging of a friend who LOVED it, I still haven't figured out why that book was so wildly popular.

This book turned out to be better than I expected, because about two-thirds through it she revived the plot, rather interestingly. Just in time. I had grown so weary plodding through the interminable kinky sex scenes, I was ready to give up. SPOILER ALERT. Early in the book, when the heroine's BFF, Val, remarked that Nicole, a sweet, nerdish character, seemed "creepy," in contrast to her groupie-like enthusiasm for Rhys, the ninth sexiest bachelor ranked by People Magazine, despite his callous and contemptuous treatment of Lucy (be sure to call me right away, and don't leave out any details!), my reaction was that either Val needs an attitude rearrangement or Lucy needs a new BFF. Meanwhile, my mind was wondering in the background whether this was a hamhanded attempt by the author to suggest that sweet Nicole was actually the villain after all. So when the plot belatedly resumed, I was curious to see if my suspicion was correct. Ultimately Lucy comes off as a shallow, spineless twit, and though Rhys is a more interesting character, I couldn't bring myself to care enough about them to spend money on the next book... or anything else by this author.
