3.25 stars. The book's cover with the racing horses and the roses definitely caught my attention. A little too short -- I like to feel a romance develop over more pages & I'd have liked to see more of the horses! -- but overall a pretty good romance novel. I never really 100% connected with the characters, but that could just be me. I did really like that the story was clean. I would read another novel by the author.
It was a good story-line and had great potential. However, I thought Dane was too controlling and manipulative towards Robynn. He demanded more of her time than she had to give and acted as if they were dating, which they were not! I couldn't stand him and put the book down way before the halfway point.
Another book that I read to Diana. We can't do much anymore after her stroke, so I read to her to spend time together. Diana has always loved to have someone to read to her - and I like to do just that.
This was not what we, Diana and I, think of as a typical Lauraine Snelling book. It is set in 20th century Portland, Or, not in the 1900's Dakotas and there are no Norwegian immigrants carving out a living on a homestead. Instead this book involves horse racing, a lady jockey and a trainer and .....
I chose to read this book to Diana because it was different. For some reason, the book just didn't click. There was the required drama and emotion, but the outcome was predictable.
It was a good book, but not great, in my humble opinion. Three stars.
