About Danger Cove: Danger Cove is a sleepy little town in the Pacific Northwest and home to renowned mystery novelist, Elizabeth Ashby. While Elizabeth swears the stories she writes are fiction, you can find the inspiration for her murderous tales all over Danger Cove...from the intriguing cast of local characters to the places to eat, play, and explore in Danger Cove. Don't let our name fool you—we're the friendliest (even if deadliest) town in the Pacific Northwest! Visit us at dangercovemysteries.com
Local resident Elizabeth Ashby was born and raised in Danger Cove and now uses her literary talent to tell stories about the town she knows and loves. Ms. Ashby has penned several Danger Cove Mysteries, which are published by Gemma Halliday Publishing. While she does admit to taking some poetic license in her storytelling, she loves to incorporate the real people and places of her hometown into her stories. She says anyone who visits Danger Cove is fair game for her poisoned pen, so tourists beware! When she's not writing, Ms. Ashby enjoys gardening, taking long walks along the Pacific coastline, and curling up with a hot cup of tea, her cat, Sherlock, and a thrilling novel.
Bree Milford has tried unsuccessfully to get a career in Hollywood, so she goes to mind her parents’ Ocean View Bed & Breakfast in Danger Cove, Washington in Killer Closet Case by Elizabeth Ashby and T. Sue Versteeg. Taking off for a Bon Jovi concert in San Diego, Bree’s parents leave Bree in charge, along with her supermodel best friend, Cristal, who has had to escape Hollywood due to a big tabloid scandal. So many twists in this one. I was in the edge of my seat the entire time. The ending....oh my gosh I hope we get to see more of these characters in future books.
I am a fan of the Danger Cove series and this author, so I was doubly excited to read Killer Closet Case. T. Sue VerSteeg creates fun and compelling plots interwoven with lots of humor in the form of both rollicking exchanges and gentle teasing among friends. The main characters are great but in this book I think the way she develops the secondary character Cristal, pronounced like the champagne, truly highlights her outstanding talent with characters. Cristal appears at first sight to be a stereotypical over-the-top ditzy model, but as we watch her interplay with Bree and Brandon we discover the depths that make her a strong character and a person worthy of our friendship, I mean that of the other characters, of course.
Bree is more than happy to leave LA to cover her parents new B&B while they take a short trip, but if she had realized that the very morning they leave a body will turn up on the property, she might have had second thoughts about assuming that responsibility even if her options are as limited as her finances. Cristal has her own reasons for leaving LA but her intention is to keep traveling until she see the trouble that Bree is facing as all of the guest flee the bed and breakfast.
Sorry this book was just not for me. I didn't really like the characters, they just seemed shallow and self-absorbed, even when under arrest the parents seemed to only care about getting busy with each other but it is a cosy and there is no sex scenes. The main character didn't help with her stretching the truth and accusing every body. No wonder the police didn't believe her. I did finish the book and I was right with my guess of who the killer was, although there wasn't a great deal of suspects to choose from. I liked the plot idea, just not sure if worked, don't get me wrong it was read able and the ending did get better but its just not one of the better ones. Bree and her best friend have to get out of there L.A apartment after a messy break up hits the front pages. So when her parents want to go away for the weekend it seem the perfect time to return home and run there new B&B. That is until the contractor removes a wall and discovers a dead body. He dead man argued with her father hours before he was last seen alive, making him the police's number one suspect, if they can find him. Bree knows the only way to stop the arrest is to find the real killer but after accusing a number of people will the police believe her when she finally finds the murderer? Especially when another body is discovered this time with the murder weapon containing her father's finger prints on. Time is running out for Bree and her family.
Summer Breeze aka Bree (call me Bree, please!!!) had high hopes of making it big in LA, but her catwalk debut came to a disastrous end and her acting didn't take the world by storm either, her friend Cristal has also hit a bump in the road and so the two of them have agreed to look after her parent's B & B in Danger Cove whilst they head out in their RV to a rock festival! Whilst they are gone Bree is also overseeing the next stage of the renovations (and overseeing the seriously hunky handyman called Mal), no-one expects there to be a corpse wrapped in plastic and duct tape behind the wall!
Now the local police are looking for Bree's parents, the two next door neighbours are being strange, (one side is a fey, gay man, the other is a man-eater who wants to make Mal her next meal!), when her parents are arrested Bree starts to look into things more carefully, she also calls on her brother (very nearly a qualified lawyer, he does bring a fully qualified one with him) who falls hook, line and sinker for Cristal ... and then Cristal goes missing and all bets are off, this is beyond personal now.
The odd parents save Bree from her disastrous attempt at a Hollywood career and get to leave the B&B in her care while they have a special getaway, and she works hard to prove that they didn't murder the man who fell on her when the carpenter opened the back wall of the closet. Add in the disgraced BFF, the attentions of the carpenter, crazy neighbors on each side, her brother the law intern, and some disastrous encounters with local law enforcement, and you have very fertile ground for hilarious verbal and situational humor. Another excellent cozy from Danger Cove!
I received a copy from the publisher in their welcome newsletter. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. It was a fun mystery to read. I tried to solve the clues to guess who the killer was but the author was too clever for me. I liked the characters and the premise of this series. I will look forward to the other books in the series and will also look for more books by Ms. VerSteeg. I really enjoyed it and gave it 5 stars.
Summer Breeze (Bree) comes home to see her Mom and Dad at their latest renovation in Danger Cove and when they leave for a quick vacation to San Deago, Bree is left in charge. During the renovations a dead body is found in a wall they are knocking down. During the investigation Bree her handiman Mal and her parents are all suspects. Her parents are arrested and the investigation to clear them takes many twists and is exciting. Good reading
Bree and her BFF Cristal are about as opposite as you could imagine - Bree down to earth and kind of practical and Cristal movie-star-like and a prima donna! But when they are together, mischief has a way of finding them! Dead bodies anyone? A crazy pins the murders on her parents and now she has to find out the real murderer to free them! A delightful and funny tale you will surely enjoy!
Oh my, just when you think you know what's going on, everything changes. What a wild ride with more twists, turns and surprises until you reach the end, and the killer is revealed. Things happen so fast you just don't know what to expect next but definitely a book that will keep you up all night reading and well worth it.
Coming home was never like this. Brea and her friend show up at her parents bed and breakfast to run it while they go on vacation. Right off they find a body and from then on it's the girls trying to find the killer so that her parents can get out of jail! You'll never guess "who done it."
Awesome! What would you do if renovations discovered a dead body and your parents are in line for arrest? Solve it! But can the two girls solve the case before the killer strikes back and before their vacation is ruined. Great read.
Tears from laughing so hard throughout this book! The closet scene almost did me in from laughter!! I love these new characters so much, and the Inn too. There's always humor mixed in with solving the murder in these Danger Cove books and what a great read this one is!
These are different stories about people living in Danger Cove. This story is about the family who owns the B&B. But they tie the other places that have already been written about. I can’t wait for the next one.
Best story yet! I loved this book and the characters. I so hope there is another on the way! What happens? You cannot just leave a girl hangin' like that!
Who killed Shaun Burke and why??? And now Cris is missing!!! It’s a good thing that Bradley, Mal and Bree will figure things out. I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
Loved this story of dead bodies and crazy people. Bree has her hands full with her parents, Cris, and Mal. She will never give up and proves it in the end. Q
Bree Milford is the main character in this book. Bree has a glitzy career that has gone bust and she returns home to Danger Cove to lick her wounds and help her parents with their B&B. While overseeing some renovations a dead body is discovered. Worried that the Police may blame her parents, she sets out to solve the mystery with a little help from her friends.
Stranded in the 80's? John & Janet Milford are indeed. Their flair for living in the moment has shaped their children, Summer Breeze (Bree) & Bradley into a bit more responsible, dependable adults. Bree had thought she'd be a star, but it wasn't so easy. Her friend Cristal did hit the big time, but was brought low by an angry avenging wife so now she's supporting Bree's managing the B & B in Danger Cove while she regroups. A small hiccup: a plastic-wrapped corpse occupying the future closet space. So while her folks are in route to a Bon Jovi concert, Bree tries to solve the caper with the trusty Cristal at her side. Who's dead, why, whodunit? While local police try to link her parents, Bree checks out the hot renovator in every way she can. I'm still wanting to head to Danger Cove, but the bodies are piling up. I think I'll reserve rooms at the B & B- the rate should be cheap. I love these characters & hope John & Janet teach Bree to follow her joy and live. This author knows how to write a mystery that grabs your attention & leaves you begging for more; so I'm begging, more, please!
With her tail between her legs, Bree Milford goes to her parent's latest remodeling venture to fill in while her folks go on a little vacation. She actually plans to move in with her folks at the B&B they run since her Hollywood dreams and funds have both ended. As soon as her parents leave, the contractor begins to enlarge a closet in the owner's apartment. The good news? The closet will be a lot larger. The bad news? There is a body hidden in the walled off space. And thus the mystery begins! With romance and more romance and lots of laughs along the way, another Danger Cove mystery unfolds. Lots of fun characters and quirky situations as Bree tries to clear her parents of murder charges result in a good mystery. Although there are many references to places and characters from other books in the series, this is a stand alone book. So don't be shy! Grab it while it is on sale and enjoy the read. When you are done there are plenty of other Danger Cove Mysteries to keep you satisfied for awhile! Enjoy T. Sue Versteeg and Elizabeth Ashby's story!
