This is a story of a young heart specialist who is torn between two loves and in the process discovers what a heart is really for. His encounter with Angela's club, which includes Father Jim, a priest, send him on a journey he never expected.
I am a recently retired pediatrician who with my wife's urging has recently discovered books. We have been reading books, mostly classics, to each other each night for several years and I have become hooked. The world of fiction is indeed a world where there are new discoveries and insights to be had that await all those who read.
I have written two novels. The first is "Angela's Club A Love Story" and my latest is "Love Amidst Shadows A Mother for Sabrina".
A lovely romantic novel of love and loss. Beware - although this isn't marketed as a religious novel there's a lot of proselytising in it - I almost gave up twice on it because of it...but just learned to quickly skim over the overt religious parts. http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/1...
At 32 years old, Cardiologist Dr. Nate Williams life is all about the hospital where he works and saving patients. Other than that, he lives alone and hasd no social life whatsoever. Even at work. he avoids any and all kinds of social interaction with anyone, even the nurses that assist him. His only ally is one of the nurses, Sandy, who he's always felt is the most 'competent' nurses on staff and is completely at ease in her company.
After an altercation with family members of one of Nate's patients, the chief of staff suspends him from his duties for one month. As he was leaving the hospital Sandy invited him to a get together at her home to which he thought to himself would be unlikely. After looking at his four walls he decides to take some chances and goes to Sandy's party. Although he's attracted to her, he knows she is a much better person than he so he does not pursue it. Finally he meets Angela and they have a whirlewind affair. She becomes pregnant and dies in giving life to their daughter. Although he misses Angela greatly, he wonders if he'll ever find love again. Then he sees Sandy. Could he ever give his heart to another again.
Won this book through Goodreads.com giveaways. At first quite a gripping, fast paced romantic story which dealt slowly with religious conversion with characters without question submitting to God's will. Thought one of the original lead characters Angela was a quickly developed quirky character which made the initial read quite entertaining however as the story progressed the next lead female character Sandy, lacked development and remained superficial throughout. Enjoyed the bar brawl scene with Nate, revealed a passionate side to his nature but this tailed off halfway through the story. Overall a light hearted holiday read.
I thought this was a very good, engaging book from beginning to end. I liked the development of the main character as he went through love, loss, family relationships and love again.
The only thing I didn't like were all the typos and spelling mistakes in this kindle version. Is there a way for me to notify the author, editor or publisher of all the mistakes? Makes it really hard to simply enjoy reading when my mind is also editing the book at the same time!! Anyone know where I can get a job as an editor? :-)
I won this in a GOODREADS giveaway - Angela's Club a Love Story by Carl Turner... It took me a while to get through this... It was a good read but not my normal type of book.
Cardiologist Dr. Nate Williams is engrossed in his work that he doesn't have time for anything or anyone else in his life until an altercation with a family member of a patient where he is forced to take a month off from work does he even explore live outside of work. During that month he goes into a local bookstore where he meets the owner Angela who introduces him to the members of her club and invites him to join. He starts to meet the other members of the club and becomes attracted to Angela. He does continue his relationship with her after returning back to work. Though one of the nurses Sandy has had feelings for him for a while, where she brings him his coffee each morning the way that he likes it. It is interesting to see how his relationships with the two women work out. I received a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
Sweet love story. Nothing too deep, but definitely a book full of feelings. Shows how life can bend back onto itself and allow us to pick up things we thought we had lost. I know a few people who have FRD who could benefit from this story.
I won this book in a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.
I was so looking forward to reading this book, but that was before I realised that it was so preachy (religious). I am not religious, so found it a little annoying. That apart, the story was fairly good.
Great book, hated to have to put it down for the holiday. It made me laugh, cry and dream. The caricatures were well developed, and easy to understand and relate to them. I loved the book and will recommit it to everyone, who enjoys a great read.
Angela's Club A Love Story by Carl Turner was very good. The story follows a cardiologist Nate . He yells at a patients family. He is told to take a month off. He goes to a bookstore. There he meets Angela. She shows Nate how to love. Angela gets sick. She is also pregnant. She decides to have the baby. She delivers by caesarian. Then her heart fails and she dies. Nate is devastated. He now has a daughter to take care of. His parents help him. He starts dating Sandy, his nurse from work. They make a date. The morning of the date, his daughter, Catherine, gets sick. He rushes her to the hospital. He forgets his phone and his date. Sandy is heartbroken and takes a new job 3000 miles away. Nate finds her, protects her honor and convinces her to come home. They fall in love!!! Excellent read!!!!
Wow. In reading this book, there are a lot of emotions running through my mind. I loved the story but felt like some of the religious parts were overwhelming.
Angela's Club is a love story and displays the love between in different parts of our lives: between a man and a woman, friends, parents and children, and even between ourselves and our particular God. So keep in mind that there is a lot of love going on in this book, but a lot of religious references as well.
The characters were well developed but everything seemed to be sooo darned perfect and therefore unrealistic. The perfect dinner, the perfect sunset, the perfect coffee. It's almost as if this is a memory where all is remembered with a golden light.
Dr. Nate William is heart doctor that never truly thought that he would fall in love, until one day he stops in a book store owned by Angela. It was love at first sight, but neither believed in marriage or having children. And then one day Angela gets really sick and finds out that she is having major heart problems. She also finds out that she is pregnant. If she carries the baby, she will not survive. You will need to read this book to find out what happens.
I just never really got into this story. Something between the kind of dry writing style and the story line which ended up being both predictable and sad. There were strong religious undertones to the story and a lot of loss and heartbreak. I think I possibly read it at the wrong time.
If you like deep and heartbreaking romance with a dose of Catholicism, this might work well for you.
I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways. My opinions are my own.
A cardiologist who will learn what the heart is really for in this journey of discovery.
I won a copy of this book during a Goodreads giveaway. I am under no obligation to leave a review or rating and do so voluntarily. So that others may also enjoy this book, I am paying it forward by donating it to a senior assisted living facility.
I loved how this story began and probably about 2/3's of the book. The rest became rather predictable and sort of an advertisement to join the Catholic church. It's also a bit long for the story it told.
Thus book was easy to read and easy to follow. This book has you living the stories of the characters. It was very well written, very clear and the characters were likeable. It was a great book to wind down with in the evenings and while I work. I don't have a beach but by the pool was refreshing
I won this e-book through Goodreads. It was a really great love story and enjoyed the storyline but some parts was kind of draggy and I just caught myself skimming through. I loved all the characters and my favorite part was the bar fight. It was a quick read and I would recommend it.
It took me a long time to get through this book. It was easy to put down as it was kind of boring. Also, when I won it, I didn't realize that it was Christian (Catholic) fiction and it was extremely preachy. The writing was also kind of stiff.
