This book had information at the beginning of the book on how to get started with basic stiches, what kinds of materials and tools to use and then went straight into some projects. There are 30+ projects in this book, but they do not list difficulty levels or have them in order of learning stiches. They are broken down by types of projects such as bags, throws and pillows, hats mittens and belts, wraps and garments, scarves and then jewelry. I did like most of the projects, though I started with photocopying the ones I felt might be easier for me to do, or more my style to make something for myself. I would check out this book again when I have more experience or want to make items for other people to get more ideas. I think it does give enough basic information to refresh you if you haven't used some of the stiches in awhile but I don't think it would be an easy learn from scratch with only this book sort of book. I think there are some other more detailed books out there for learning and this one is best for it's projects. The pictures to learn are a combination of real pictures of hands doing the work and of illustrated graphics.
I think I'm just a picky crochet-er. I only liked 5 patterns enough to want them for myself. 5. Out of 33. Some of these weren't totally hideous; I just didn't feel like I needed them or liked them enough to want them for myself. However, the photo-contents earned this one another star. After a quick flip-through at the library, I like being able to turn to the beginning of the book when I get home and go, "That's the one I was looking at before! Page X." And, ta-da! Pattern. And thus, three stars.
There's a really great starter section to this book and nice photography. The patterns are fairly clear and easy to follow. I only liked a few patterns though.
