Jane Goodall loved animals from the time she was a young girl. She dreamed of going to Africa to see the wildlife that lived there. After getting her wish, Goodall went on to become one of the most respected primatologists in the world. Her many discoveries changed the way we look atand treatchimpanzees.
This a book in the Scholastic Rookie Biographies series. It's written a bit like a textbook, with a glossary and highlighted vocabulary words and a glossary in the back. It is written like a report.
The book is a timeline of her life, from when she was born to a bit about her childhood to her first job to her travels and then her work with chimpanzees and conservation. As a whole, it would probably be used to learn some basic information about Jane Goodall.
In general, I was disappointed in the book, except for the last two sections. I think I would maybe use the "Living with Chimps" section to talk about her methods to learn about chimpanzees (living with them for long periods to gain their trust in order to make close observations), and I would use the "Making a Difference" section to show how she applied her knowledge to help improve the living conditions and survival of chimpanzees in the wild.
Simple biography of Jane Goodall for young students. The text includes some entertaining or interesting stories about her life. A good first read for a biography study to get a general idea. Appropriate for k-3rd grade.
