The year is 1885 when Abbot Berenguer Saunière took office in a poor parish in Upper Languedoc, an area in southern France full of legends and traces of ancient heresies. Behind his appointment is hidden the mysterious Priory of Sion, which plans to entrust him with a difficult and dangerous task: to find the secret hidden for centuries, of the Visigoth kings. Shortly after arriving, Saunière finds some mysterious and terrible documents that force him to make irreversible decisions. Berenger will discover step by step all the enigmas that the manuscripts hid and that will guide him together with the help of the Priory collaborators to find where the treasure is hidden. From then on, the members of the Priory will walk in his footsteps tirelessly. The story takes place between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century (until the end of World War I). It is a novel that mixes fact with fiction; full of mystery, action, lust, murders, superstition, and eagerness for power and wealth. I give it 5 stars out of 5.
