Published in 1971, 'Hitler's High Seas Fleet' is one of many in the Pan/Ballantine Illustrated History of World War II, and provides an interesting account of the activities of surface fleet of the German Navy in WW2. As with many in this series, the text by an excellent historian is let down a little by the poor quality of reproduction of the photos, many of which have rather indifferent captioning.
This is a very fine history of the German Surfice Navy in World War II. It does not cover the U-boats, but does include a summary of the succeses of the commerce raiders. A main emphesis is how a rather small fleet of ships kept the British (it was only the British that opposed it) tied up and chasing itself. Of course, numbers prevailed in the end -- along with the foolishness of Hitler and his cohorts.
