I loved reading this book! So fun to learn about these women, many of whom I had not heard of. Each chapter was about 10 minutes long, so a good amount before bed or reading over breakfast.
This would make a great gift for anyone in Maine with a camp. Perfect book to keep at a camp for people to pick up and read a chapter here and there. (Full disclosure: I started reading this book at a friend camp on a remote island off the coast of Maine when it first came out but inadvertently it didn't make it into my bag for the trip home! I only recently got a new copy. Hoping that others passing through Eagle Island have also enjoyed reading about the women in this book!)
Reading the second edition of this little book was enlightening, entertaining, and offered several surprises in the choices of women featured. Well written, it offered intimate details of women who worked diligently and passionately to change Maine for the better in ways large and small, publicly and privately. Most delightful surprise of all was discovering the lifestyle of Marguerite Thompson Zorach and insight into her personal life to include raising her daughter, Dahlov Ipcar!
Not only do I adore Kate Kennedy, I loved learning about these remarkable Maine women! Kate's straightforward and personable writing style allowed the women she wrote about to come back to life. I can't wait to share this book with my most-loved Mainers!
