I have hearing loss and wear hearing aids and also suffer from this condition. I disagree with the author a little big I feel my hearing loss is a major part of the cause of this Condition. I have watched his videos on you and they do help people . I think he makes a lot of good points and he also suffered many year from this horrible condition. It is written well and moves pretty much at a good pace. It is not boring and he offers some good advice. I just feel that some of advice can get costly fast and might be influenced by his current job. I do agree with him on many points and I will do some of things he says to do. I can't afford the other things lol. It is a good book and I say give it a spin.
While there is no disputing the value of meditation and increased body awareness, be aware that this book is written by a therapist who repeatedly recommends therapy, and who only once mentions its expense. In addition, there are a number of annoying grammatical errors. However, the book’s most amusing inaccuracy is this: “To work with tinnitus you need to learn to get your whole central nervous system to switch off.” In that case, one would of course be dead, and it’s probably true that tinnitus would cease, unless perhaps one were in hell.
Incredibly helpful, empowering, practical and moving.
Having followed Julian Cowan Hill on You Tube after finding myself living recently with the tyrant' Tinnitus, i found his videos extremely calming and helpful. It's taken me a rather long time to accept Mr Tinnitus, and am sure there will continue to be dark days, but hopefully less and less, i just purchased Julian's book and read it in one go.
I am already having physio which includes cranial sacral therapy and wholeheartedly agree with Julian's suggestions to search out body based therapies where possible. I am on a journey i never envisaged but following Julian's advice and suggestions i am hopeful that i can let go of Mr T.
Thank you, Julian. It's been 8 years since my tinnitus had started. I feel like I have gotten to know it a bit... my husband and I have shared our observations and frustration on the matter. I just can't seem to manage all the issues that come with the experience - the anger, frustration, disappointment, and just being worn-out. Your book puts everything in perspective and has given me much hope. Thank you for sharing your experience and insights. I wanted to highlight almost everything! Thank you, thank you. You are a life-saver. God bless you more.
Having had tinnitus for 12 years, most of that time feeling hopeless about relief, Julian's book helped me realize that tinnitus is not a static entity. By learning what lessens and increases it, we open up a path to acceptance/habituation that allows us to greatly extend those periods of relief until they become the norm and to decrease those influences that cause it to spike. This book is a gem.
