Big disappointment: Couldn't make out the different shades of gray in the key for the first frost and last frost charts to determine when to start planting.
Most of the book is organized based on the vegetables you want to grow, which is nice. Gathered some useful tips that I hadn't already gained from my other books, but definitely shouldn't be the only gardening book to read as a beginner.

Great planting and frost tables that give county specific information for frosts, rainfall and more. Then it has a great, vegetable by vegetable section. This is helpful!

Minimalist information on soil, frost, and garden prep but great individual vegetable and fruit descriptions. Lists when to play, how to plant, what to look for.
Very helpful

This book is black and white on the same type of paper newspapers print on. This makes the few pictures hard to decipher, and not very helpful. For me, I enjoy a gardening book with a lot of big glossy pictures that help illustrate the disease, pest, or fruit being discussed. The content is good but since I didn't just move to Ohio I moved to Cleveland I see there's some over generalizations for "Ohio" in this book that aren't quite true for the northern part of the state. I think Cleveland is in zone 5 whereas anything just 60 miles south is possibly in zone 6. The book is generally good. There are a few parts I wanted to skim again before I take it back to the library. Not a book I would have bought, but not a bad book to check out and skim from the library.

a pretty good book for ohio vegetable gardens with regards to plants and times to plant and growing patterns. the ideas around fertilizer, tilling, and general practice of herbicide, pesticide are contrary to my general thoughts of how I want to garden - however i bought the book mainly for the reference of growing specific to the ohio USDA zones and ideas around what to start indoors and when. all in all (as long as you rule out the non permiculture ideas in the book) it was exactly what i was looking for and i would recommend it. i'm sure with enough google searching i could have had this same information but i preferred to have it in a book to reference on a shelf.
