I adored this sweet little book as a child but had completely forgotten it - even though I own a vintage hardback copy. I began using Goodreads solely to catalogue the children’s book titles that my own three children loved so that it would be easy to select books to purchase to began building a library in case they have children in the future. Keeko is exactly the sort of kid’s title that I have targeted.
Keeko is a little Indian boy of about three or four years old. Keeko has learned that in his tribe, a boy becomes a man once he collects an eagle feather for a headdress. The story follows Keeko’s quest to collect an eagle feather of his own.
Though this story is aimed at the younger set (listeners rather than readers), there are several surprisingly uncomfortable moments in this tale that were very scary when I first read/heard this book as a child. These moments are of course resolved safely, and Keeko the Brave Indian Boy returns home a hero.
What’s not to love about such a story if you’re a five year old girl or boy?
I own a copy of the first hardback edition of this volume in fair condition.
My rating: 7.75/10, finished 1965 (but never added to my Goodreads lists until 2026) (4028).
