I, Skye Briar Blake, am simply a girl trying to make her way in the world.Corny enough for ya? Well, it’s true though.
I work part time at a diner where most of the patrons are drunken frat boys with an unending appetite for chili cheese fries and the gift of quoting the worst pickup lines known to man and beast. But, at night I make my way to part time job numero dos at Pinkies. Yep, you guessed it…a strip club—rather a gentleman’s club featuring exotic dancers. Better? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
Serving drinks and stocking baskets of stale pretzels was never my life goal or anything, but it pays better than the diner, and I don’t come home reeking like deep-fried crap.
I’ve actually found a family at Pinkies and that’s something I’m severely lacking.
For the most part, I can’t complain…that is I couldn’t until Jaden came into my life, insulted me about my weight, and then, screwed me until I couldn’t see straight. Jerk. Makes no sense, right? Try being me.
As if on cue, enter Rhett, panty-melting Rhett, and he likes me, no, like really likes me.
With two men knocking on my door *heh-hum* so to speak, I’m more confused than I’ve ever been and quite honestly, I just don’t know what to believe anymore.
This is my story. The good, the bad, and the downright wrong—it’s all me and I’ll have to live with the repercussions of my decisions and hope, in the end, I don’t HATE myself.
Warning: HATE Sex will tick you the f*ck off. Homicidal thoughts may cross your mind revolving around a certain arrogant s.o.b. And, by the middle of the book? You’ll want to dish out a bitchslap of epic proportions to my heroine. GOOD! Hand me a lollipop because all that means is that I succeeded in sucking you into this twisted vortex of sex, hate and possibly love whether you wanted to be sucked or not.
Wow! This is the first book by Billy Storm and what a way to come out of the gate. The characters in this books are so complex, so rich in form and substance that they instantly jump off the page and drag you into their world. The raw emotions and deep seeded ideals that each of the characters have about themselves and about each other really comes through with the interactions. There are some pretty freaking hot scenes but those aren't the focal point of the whole book. The way the characters really feel about themselves is what leads to how they interact with each other and they are all very damaged. I was brought to tears over and over and just wanted to shake them at times and tell them that they were ok, they were good. The fronts that the characters put on for the world are nothing compared to who they really are and the exciting part of this book is that we get to see those fronts crumble as they progress in their relationships. It was absolutely beautiful how these truly damaged characters were able to find each other and really begin healing the pain from the past. I'm not going to spoil anything but I do hope that we get to see "the other man" in a future book, I would love to see how his story plays out.
This was the first book I've read that has a self-proclaimed "fat girl" and has such an awesome confidence with herself. She's gorgeous, and is sassy. Such a refreshing character! The men in the book, are so different. One you really begin to hate and one you love. I had so many feelings and I am sure I made some funny facial expressions with some of the scenes. I almost yelled, "What the hell are you doing?" Then the next line, the character would be wondering the same thing! So glad I went out of my comfort zones. **Plus great sex scenes.
This raw & gritty story will keep you turning the pages to see what the characters will do next. Some things will piss you off, some will have you saying 'oh my', and many will have you fanning yourself. Definitely not a light & fluffy romance. ;)
Loved what I found. This story was hawt, but also a great journey of discovery. Skye who is so sure she knows who she is, discovers she's so much more than she thought. Throughout the relationship with Jaden it seems she's fighting something. In the relationship with Rhett she sees more, but doesn't realize how easy it could be. Despite all the twists this is a story about a girl who has to decide if she loves herself enough to do better than Hate Sex.
Just when you think you've gotten it all from this author she throws a new kink in the chain. This is not a book for those "grandma's romance book" only readers. This book touches the depths of many desires on multiple levels. Strong wants and gets are awaiting you in this read. Blow your mind type of read? Yep this hits the mark.
A love triangle gone bad. Two hot, sex alpha males and one plus sized female. Love this story. So glad to find a story that isn't about a size two, stick figure and a sexy hot guy. Love it. A must read.
I crave a good enemy-to-lover book like I crave a good piece of dark chocolate. It is my candy and my addiction. That being said...I loved the later half of this story but not so much the first half because of Jaden. How I hated that SOB. I saw no redeeming qualities in him. He infuriated me with his treatment of Skye. He riled me. And revved me up. He was mean, mean, mean but hot, hot, hot. I loathed him...until the second half of the story. Then, I felt oh-so-sorry for him...the prick. Rhett, on the other hand, was every girl's dream. What southern gal doesn't desire her very own Rhett? *Sigh* His slow, steady pursuit of Skye was a delight to read. His mistakes made the story that much better. And Skye? I loved that she was a "big girl". Big girls don't get nearly the page time they deserve. She was beautiful, sexy, ballsy and mostly comfortable in her own skin. Fabulous and refreshing. The story was difficult for me during the first half because of all the hate (hence the title) mutual though it was. It was just too over-the-top for me. Both men wanted Skye and approached her in their own unique ways. You knew, at some point, things were going to come to a head. It was like watching a train wreck in progress - anticipating the collision, aware of the subsequent destruction and knowing there is not a thing that will stop it. The collision? The climax? Fantastic! It might have been a little unrealistic (queue eye roll) but was so hot I didn't care. Which man does she end up with? Both? Neither? You should find that out for yourself. It is definitely worth it!
A very different story then what . I usually read. Very interesting. Never knew what was going to happen next. Will be waiting for the next book impatiently.
