The haunted hotels of northern Colorado offer chance encounters with wispy apparitions from a fabulous century gone by. The Earl of Dunraven prowls in the night at the Stanley Hotel. Melancholy Carl haunts the halls of the Brook Forest Inn, and Eleanor James tosses pots and pans about at the Elkhorn Lodge. A little boy, tragically drowned, leaves watery footprints in the Hotel Jerome. Book a stay with author Nancy Williams as she explores Colorado's iconic hotels where spirits aren't confined to the bar.
The best in this Haunted America series! Extremely interesting and full of great history and ghostly goings-on. I'm absolutely enjoying this haunted series since I've been to many of these locations. Especially in Colorado. The Stanley is my favorite! I love reliving my memories since due to my age and medical problems I'll probably never be able to return. I very much enjoy this series because many of the authors make you feel as if you're right there again!
This book is full of history! Our family subject of the year is hotel and this fit so nicely for the Halloween season. There is a larger amount of historical information than ghostly information, but for our need that was just fine. It is a wonderful historical keeping of social places for the masses as Colorado grew.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It’s very heavy of the history of each town’s development and building history and very light on the actual ghost lore. The end of each chapter quickly reviews hotel ghost sightings, but it is only one or two pages of the entire chapter. I had hoped for much more in-depth exploration of the ghost lore in each town.
While it had an enjoyable backstory on all of the towns and hotels featured in the book, it almost felt like the ghosts and legends were pushed to a backburner, and read more like just a small history book of hotels in Northern Colorado.
This did excite me. Learned a lot that I never knew and it was a bit spooky in parts. The people were interesting and the building history was especially interesting. I will read more of these I did enjoy it.
