Philip George Zimbardo was an American psychologist and a professor emeritus at Stanford University. He became known for his 1971 Stanford prison experiment, which was later criticized severely for both ethical and scientific reasons. He authored various introductory psychology textbooks for college students, and other notable works, including The Lucifer Effect, The Time Paradox, and The Time Cure. He was also the initiator and president of the Heroic Imagination Project.
It's a good overview of the field but it's a bit too wordy and, of course, some of the cited research has since been debunked. So, at least some of the book is not in accordance with our current best scientific understandings. If one buys this book, I recommend to wait and buy the newest edition as there is a bigger chance the outdated information is taken out by then.
Comprehensive introductory fine tuned for kids who know nothing. About 500 pages of Psychology basics, from “who is Plato, when did he live, what did he think” through “what is nature-nurture” to “what are specific brain parts and their functions, their basic biology, chemistry and electrical properties.” Incredible drag to read for whoever is not a child or a complete idiot since about 80% is high school or even elementary stuff or otherwise irrelevant and the new information is mostly stuff they simply refuse to teach kids because they’re supposed to be dumb and not ready to know the details of the world and life. Well guess what: I’ve been filling in the missing information myself ever since the internet became inhabited. And excuse me for having had to redo the first exam at the university twice because I failed to memorize the birthday of some holy philosophers in the 16th-17th centuries. So there: do read if you don’t know anything about the basics of the field of psychology. My rating would have been 5 stars if this was actually meant as a children’s book, even more if I had read it when I was 10.
