Rate this book
Editorial design is one of the most exciting and innovative areas of design at the moment, and is the area of design that has most benefited from the advances in digital technology. Production of catalogs, newspaper supplements, books, and the thousands of independent magazines whether on- or off-line is changing due to advances in digital technology. This book examines editorial projects and provides an overview of the entire working process from juggling creative elements such as photography, typography, text and illustration to dealing with the constraints and demands from editors, publishers, advertisers, repro houses, printers, and paper mills.

Not as good as I remembered it to be, but it's because I have a different need when I took this down from the shelf a few weeks ago. This is the third time I've read this book since I bought it last year. Very informative, with interesting case studies on design, although this time around I wished it could've featured one project that is formal and straightlaced yet very elegant.

I was looking for inspiration for a very important book layout and I didn't find what I needed here. But it's still lovely to reread the process behind editorial design, re-educating myself on principles and aesthetics before I let myself loose and get as creative as I can be, given the project's limitations.

I've still got the study on I.D. Magazine bookmarked though, as well as Tokion Magazine. Still pure genius.

/ Reread on 2-9 December 2011.
