Journey to Israel with Grover as he visits the Western Wall, shops in the Machane Yehuda market, visits a kibbutz, hikes to the top of Masada, floats in the Dead Sea, and shares the hospitality of a Bedouin family. The fifth book in Kar-Ben's partnership with Sesame Street, including The Count's Hanukkah Countdown, I'm Sorry Grover, It's a Mitzvah, Grover, and Grover and Big Bird's Passover Celebration.
Grover goes on an adventure through Israel and emails his friends back on Sesame Street along the way. He visits famous Israeli landmarks such as the Western Wall, the Machane Yehuda market, and the Dead Sea. He also experiences working in a kibbutz (a farm community), eating falafel, and participating in a camel race. The story is read through the point of view of the emails that Grover sends to his friends. He tells them about his experiences and asks them questions. I read this entire book with Grover’s voice in my head as narration. It’s a great book. I liked the specific information about the country and it highlighted a lot of things that young readers will be interested in. But, Grover’s voice helped sell me on it. I think the fact that most (are there any?) people won’t be able to replicate that voice while reading it aloud and that takes away some of the magic.
Sesame Street’s favorite blue dude, Grover, is traveling for the first time to Israel. He wants to share his adventures with everybodeee. Grover learned that when you say Shalom, you could be telling someone hello, good-bye or peace. He also learned about Shabbat and how it is the Jewish day of rest. He found a pot on an archaeological dig, and shopped at a Machane Yehuda market. Grover does lots of cool things and learns plenty about the Jewish culture in Israel.
Young readers will enjoy the adventure right along with Grover. Delightful illustrations present the lifestyle of the people who live there and easy to read sentences make this adventurous story a great read-a-loud.
I like it and it was great. Because it was a beautiful and I liked that Grover went to Israel. Per hope. Excellent summary of the country. Really got a feel for the atmosphere.
