Written by active research scientists who study the volcanism of Earth and of other planets, the contributions provide the first general review of volcanic activity throughout the Solar System. Successive chapters describe past and present volcanic activity as it is observed throughout the Solar System. These chapters relate to readers not only our present knowledge of volcanism throughout the Solar System but also how frontline scientists working in this field conduct their research.
I was recently given a copy of Volcanic Worlds and even though it is a bit dated now (published in 2004), I decided to give it a read. It is a nice introduction to the various kinds of volcanic activity in our solar system that was written entirely by women scientists. Each chapter has a different different author (or pair of authors) that includes an introduction about how they came to study volcanoes, which adds a nice touch to the science. The book is fine, as long as one reads this it a critical eye and is somewhat aware of the updates in solar system exploration.
