Your essential guide to 50 of the best foot races across the globe. From iconic half marathons and obstacle races, to prestigious marathons and brutal mountain contests, 50 Races to Run Before You Die presents these epic challenges in all of their mud, sweat and glory. Including a range of events, from easy to expert, and travelling from Britain’s highest peaks to the unforgiving Moroccan desert, this stunningly illustrated book is the essential guide for anyone who wants to test themselves by taking on some of the world’s most celebrated and rewarding physical challenges.
With each race tried, tested and finished by the author, the book features first-hand accounts of the challenges, highlights and insider tips on what to expect, plus stunning photography and race graphics, including elevation charts, finisher rates and race-specific facts for each race.
I received this as a gift from my brother. i expected it to be very shallow, but it turned out to be much better than I had feared. A lot of the shorter races weren't that interesting and basically seemed like filler to get to 50 races, but the adventure races were really interesting and I would happily have read more about each of them.
It's not the fault of the author that trail ultrarunning doesn't appeal to me, so I wouldn't deduct stars for that. But a book that is so poorly proofread, in my view, shouldn't get any stars at all. Just a couple of gaffes that come to mind: "hoards" of people, "tales" of horses... not to mention to unforgivable use of "then" in lieu of "than." If I hadn't checked this book out of the library, I would have been very angry indeed at having spent money on it.
Good succinct description of a range of running related events. Very disappointed in the UK centric content, with 27 of the races based in UK. The title should have it's title "in the UK and a few other places"
A good range of races from 5k to multi day adventure races. Nice pictures, just enough description, the sort of book that's nice to have on your bookshelf.
