USA Today Bestselling Author Lisa Hughey started writing romance in the fourth grade. That particular story involved a prince and an engagement. Now, she writes about strong heroines who are perfectly capable of rescuing themselves and the heroes who love both their strength and their vulnerability. She pens romances of all types—suspense, paranormal, and contemporary—but at their heart, all her books celebrate the power of love.

She lives in Cape Ann Massachusetts with her fabulously supportive husband, two out of three awesome mostly-grown kids, and one somewhat grumpy cat.

Yoga, hiking, and traveling are her favorite ways to pass the time when she isn’t plotting new ways to get her characters to fall in love.

This is a 3 book espionage/romance suspense set, Blowback, Betrayals and Burned. Each book features a set of characters that are connected to the main thread of the story. In Blowback Jamie Hunt is on a covert mission that goes wrong. Thirteen years ago she sacrificed everything to keep her sister safe and she works alone and trusts no one. Lucas is a former FBI agent who knows people who can help her, but can she trust him. In book 2, Betrayals, Staci is a CIA agent who has been left for dead in Afghanistan. Her boyfriend Jordan doesn't believe she is dead and won't stop looking for her. Staci is determined to find out why she was left in a prison to die and she has to stay under the radar to do that. Is Jordan someone who can help her or will he turn her in. Book 3, Burned features Zeke a programmer/hacker for the NSA. He is under investigation for giving information to the enemy. While he is off the job he is asked to watch Sunshine. Sunshine and her Mother have been on the run for 13 years from Sunshines step father. Now he has found them again, Zeke has been burned by the agency and they are on the run together. All the characters have something in common and someone behind the scenes is manipulating events. I enjoyed all 3 books. Lots of suspense, betrayals and romance.

Wow, what a phenomenal series! This is a trilogy that grabbed my attention from the very first page and kept it until the very last page of the last book. It is a fast paced and well constructed romantic suspense/thriller that was so good that I was sorry when it ended. Each book focuses on two people with supporting characters in common over the three books. Each book is a stand alone novel, but you will appreciate it so much more if you read them as the author intended.

This author was new to me, but I have added her to my must read authors' list. She is a very talented writer and if you haven't yet read anything by her, you are missing out.

Blowback 5 STARS

So many twists and turns, as a reader it felt like I was running all over the place with the characters, trying to figure out what was going on. I really like having to think through things to solve the crimes.

Jamie's independence makes her a great agent, but she's misguided in her attempts to keep her sister safe while not revealing she's still alive.

Lucas is brilliant , knowing what she's thinking, trying to show her he's there, but letting her lead because she's so utterly afraid to trust anyone.

The weakest part was Lucas' search for Johnny, although there's a neat twist to that. I suppose he's a determined kind of person to be doing what he does.

There are still unanswered questions so I'm looking forward to the next books to answer things like where Staci Grant is and whether or not the child who got the drug will get the antidote, as well as who her evil father is.

Betrayals 4 STARS

Staci is kidnapped and tortured while in Afghanistan, and the CIA, whom she works for, doesn't save her. A woman helps her and Staci escapes, but now can't trust anyone.

Jordan is given a file that says she's dead, but he sees it's not her body, and goes searching for her everywhere.

There are many passes where they're so close, but he doesn't recognize her due to a pigment she injects to darken her skin. Eventually, he sees her, emaciated as she is from her capture and the sickness she's feeling.

Many twists in this book, too, some of which I expected, others not. As they rebuild their trust in each other and pull in a few friends along the way, the mystery of department 5491 becomes clearer.

Some characters from Blowback I enjoyed, others not so much. Great read, looking forward to whoever is up next.

Burned 5 STARS

Another great adventure. The fact that Zeke is a geek who looks like a surfer, and Sunshine is a genius who looks like a new age girl is quite fun.

All the pieces from the last two books fall into place, and the other characters also show up to help out.

There is also an added layer, because in Sunshine's case, the sleeper who kills her grandparents is actually her stepfather, and he's continued to stalk her and her mother for 13 years.

The relationship of trust takes time to build for these two, but with so much going on, they stick together. They manage to catch Susan Chen, who holds answers about the drug several agents were injected with. They also catch the man in charge, who confesses in a confrontation with Zeke. Last, they get Sunshine's step father, so finally, she and her mom can be free.

Black Cipher Files

This was a great collection. Each couple was very different from the others & their tribulations were all different while tying together nicely at the end. Thumbs up!

This romantic suspense box set includes Blowback, Betrayals and Burned.

Blowback
Blowback is Jamie Hunt and Lucas Goodman's story. Jamie is on a covert mission that goes wrong and Lucas is a PI searching for a missing teenager. Jamie is forced to team up with Lucas when she discovers that her sister, who she sacrificed everything for thirteen years ago, is in danger. Can Jamie learn to trust Lucas and what secrets will be uncovered.

Betrayals
Betrayals is Staci Grant and Jordan Ramirez's story. Despite the evidence, Jordan refuses to accept that his lover, and the best CIA agent he knows, is dead and he is determined to find her. Staci is, in fact, very much alive. She has escaped her captors and will stop at nothing to discover who betrayed her and why. Having survived torture and imprisonment, Staci is reluctant to trust anyone, including Jordan, but Jordan will not give up on Staci without a fight.

Burned
Burned is Zeke Hawthorne and Sunshine Smith's story. Sunshine, along with her mother, has been in hiding since her Stepfather murdered her Grandparents. For thirteen years they have been safe but now Sunshine is, once again, in danger. Zeke has been tasked with watching Sunshine from afar and ensuring that she is safe. When she is threatened, he cannot help but step in. However, danger is also stalking Zeke and the two must work together to survive.

Each standalone novel concentrates on one couple but has interconnecting characters. The stories were fast paced and well written, with a good mix of romance, intrigue and suspense. I liked all of the couples, enjoyed their romances and found their relationships believable. I enjoyed all three stories, with Burned being my favourite.

Received a copy of this set in exchange for an honest review.

This box set gives the reader BLOWBACK, BETRAYALS, and BURNED all in one sitting (...if the reader so chooses). I personally enjoy being able to go from book one in a series, directly into the next story. These stories, while connected, follow 3 different couples. I felt that Lisa Hughey wrote the suspense aspect of each story well, and I was able to enjoy the character dialogue and thoughts well for the most part.

Having all three books in my hands at once was definitely a positive in the sense that if I were reading the books individually, I may not have continued after the first book. There were aspects to the storyline of BLOWBACK that didn't quite pull me down, but the writing style had me curious as to what Lisa Hughey was going to bring next. I felt that each book only got better (the prologue in BETRAYALS alone had me excited to continue reading), with BURNED being the best of the three.

The books are fast paced and it is very well constructed, the romantic suspense/thriller that was o so good i did not want it too end.

Each of the stories in this box set it focuses on two people with other characters in common over the course of these three stories.

Each one of these books is a stand alone, but it is best to read them all and in order.
