I am who God says I am...I matter...I am unique...I am fearfully and wonderfully made! I am not a collection of evolutionary amino acids which formed at random in some primordial ooze. There is a God who, through His Son Jesus Christ, reached down through time and space to show the immense love He has for His creation. The book, however small and easy-to-read it may be, was a huge encouragement to live life using the innate giftings, the skills and abilities and talents, He has given me. Believers are a part of a whole. Some of us are an "eye", while others are a "hand". We cannot live without Jesus and the symbiotic relationship we have with each other within the Body of Christ. Please read this book if you need encouragement in your faith.
Collection of quotes from Lucado’s various books on identity, knowing you’re loved, and how Christ changes our perception of talents, work, ourselves, and others. Not bad, but I’d rather just read the books quoted instead of this collection again and it felt a little cheesy at times. It works as a short devo, but didn’t have as much depth of Bible study as I would’ve liked. Would work well as a devo for kids as an intro to these topics like self esteem, being uniquely made, and belovedness, but you could go deeper with them.
This is a book that puts simple truths into a "thought a day" kind of reading. Personally, I used it as a once-a-day pick-me-up read to encourage me. Though sometimes ideas presented challenged those perceptions I previously had, it gave me another perspective, another way to look at my faith, another way to see different concepts. I think the best part about this little book is the fact that all of these one-two page stories with messages come from about twelve to fifteen of Lucado's other books. Some of the concepts he brings out, some of the quotes or perceptions he offers makes me want to read all of these other books, some more than others (such as "Cure For The Common Life,") but it inspires me to continue to read this kind of genre. I'd recommend it to anyone who just wants a small read a day as a way of encouragement/reassurance.
I love Max Lucado. True, his work isn't very intellectual, but that's okay. We need somebody to come along and use scripture properly to remind us of how in love with us God is, and You! is awesome at that. Now, it IS rather kind of a shameless "compilation album", so to speak, of stuff Lucado has written elsewhere in his oeuvre, but I think it's nice to have a compact little collection here of quick references when you're feeling low, and the book could also help with essential scripture memorization, as Lucado frequently supports his points with references that come in real handy. Lucado is a fresh palate-cleanser if you've been a little swamped with reading deeper theological treatises like the works of John Piper and C.S. Lewis.
Devotional gift book rehash of earlier Lucado books... The content is scriptural & affirming, but I always dislike the gift book money grab. (I'd give it five stars if it wasn't for the obnoxious packaging - this is a "best of Max" that's worth reading - but the graphic design choices are cheesy & in some cases inexplicable & jarring.)
I loved this book! It's a short read from Max Lucado, but it's very inspiring and it showed me a lot about my own life and what God has planned for me :)
A great book. Good to read no matter if you're happy or sad, talks to you about many different areas of your life. And about the most important person: You. A well-written book
Shiny packaging of Scripture set next to what I'm guessing are excepts from the authors's other books. A sorta "feel good" book that made me vaguely uneasy. No rating because, obviously, this book was not created with me in mind.
The coloring & graphics are cool & I bought for those elements at a thrift store. Re-purposing the cover, some pictures, & some quotes into an art journal.
