From the first puck drop to the final buzzer, Goodnight Hockey will have every hockey fan cheering. A perfect story for bedtime and budding sports fans.

I love hockey. I mean, being from Chicago you pretty much have to. (Go Blackhawks!) I had to give this picture book a read- it looked too adorable to pass up. I'm really glad I did. This book is absolutely perfect for little sports fans everywhere.
First, I have to say that this book is just cute. From cover to cover and everything in between, this book is just adorable. This book tells the story of a little hockey fan enjoying a hockey game and all the hype and excitement of a home team victory.
The illustrations are really well done and detailed, with bright colors. They go well with the story that's being told, and do well to keep your attention on the story. Also, and this was a pleasant surprise, it rhymes. That made me really happy, and added another level cute to the whole reading experience.
It has come to my attention that this book is a part of the Sports Illustrated Kids Bedtime Book series. I haven't read any of the other ones, but having read Goodnight, Hockey, I know that will definitely change in the future. As the publishers agree, I'd recommend this for younger sports fans, aged roughly 4-7.
I received a copy in exchange for my honest review. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.
Super cute book about hockey! Our family loves the Blackhawks and this book didn't disappoint. I loved the end when the boy said "Goodnight ice, goodnight team." my boys loved it. Did I mention the illustrations are awesome!
(for some reason on Goodreads, there is not a KINDLE option, not sure why? that is how i read each and every one of these??! odd??!) (i guess the soccer one is the only one i have yet to read, so i am going to organize which i prefer to the others, that does not mean i don't enjoy/love them all .. 1st football, then hockey and followed by the baseball one, i wonder where the soccer one will fall for me?) i will say that baseball is my favorite sport if i have to pick one ...but these books if you are picking a fave from them ... "Goodnight Football" and "Goodnight Hockey" the illustrations are so much cooler in them verses the baseball one .. just saying .. maybe it is the colors used or pictures displayed and whatnot??! so amazing either way ... well done!
I'll admit: I know next to nothing about hockey other than the immense talent it must take to play it. However, I have a young family member who is obsessed with hockey, and I read this book to see if it's a good fit for them. I can say without a doubt that it is. The art is beautiful and the story has a nice rhyming scheme for a bedtime book. It even manages to tell a story, albeit a very basic one, about a family attending a hockey game in which their home team wins the game. Definitely a worthy addition to the bedtime rotation of any young hockey fan - or aspiring young player.
This picture book takes the reader through a hockey game as seen from a child and then the child says goodbye to differn't parts of the game on the journey home. simple yet explains the game well. toddler and up
Need a break from Goodnight Moon? This is the perfect story to share at bedtime with the little hockey fans in your life. Illustrations are fantastic – especially loved the one where the puck “flies like a rocket” as it looks like it is going to soar right off the page.
Very good 👍I really liked it because it had entertainment unlike How To Draw FortniteVery good 👍I really liked it because it had entertainment unlike How To Draw Fortnite
As I explore hockey books for my 8 year old, I may have found a cute book for my 12 month old to read in a few years. So I shall look up Michael Dahl when the time comes. It is very well written for a child and engaging and it took me there...
This is the book I'm reading my [non-existent] kids before bed every time we get home from a B.C., B.U., or Bruins game. The only thing I'd add is some faces that look like me, especially since this is a Sports Illustrated book.
This is a nice rhyming picture book that take the reader from watching the game to saying goodbye and goodnight. A nice one to share during storytime, but we ran out of time this storytime session.
Hockey is fun!! A fun book about Hockey! Nice pictures...and one of the team uniforms looks suspiciously like abstract Maple Leaf Uniforms...odd!! or not! Fun one! Going on my recommendation list!!
Very cute book - reminiscent of Goodnight Moon. I bought it for a dedicated hockey fan for her baby shower. She loved it and actually cried when she read it!!
Following in the footsteps of their previous sports related bedtime story, Goodnight Baseball and Goodnight Football (which I reviewed here almost a year ago), Michael Dahl and Christina Forshay bring hockey fans their very own goodnight story, Goodnight Hockey. The season for these young fans will not begin until October 7th, but they can fall asleep to and dream about their favorite team starting August 1st when this title will become available. You can pre-order now from Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
I have to admit, I have never been to a hockey game. I live in Texas. Our sport is football. However we do have some very dedicated hockey fans here. The Dallas Stars have won seven division championships, won the Presidents' Trophy and the Conference Championship on two occasions, and dare we forget they won the Stanley Cup in the 1998-99 season! They are in the top ten when it comes to arena size (19,200 capacity at the American Airlines Center), so we MUST have a decent number of fans.
I believe Goodnight Hockey will become the favorite bedtime story of young goaltenders, wingers, centers, and defencemen. The colorful illustrations and rhyming text will inspire wonderful dreams of pucks sliding across the ice, slapshots, hattricks, and last second winning scores.
