It offers both a valuable update for mental health professionals and much-needed information and encouragement for BPD patients and their families and friends. The chapters on families give voice to the experience of BPD and offer the hope that family involvement in treatment will be beneficial to everyone.
Found this a very enlightening book, there was only a few parts that I didnt find interesting mainly because the things discussed didnt coincide with the knowledge I wanted to gleem from the book.
BPD-empathetic perspective on healthy boundary-setting for carers of folks with BPD, along with professional family support, whereas many other books focus empathy almost exclusively on the carers. Example: "Families also act therapeutically by appreciating their rights to satisfy their own needs and then needs of others in the household. By doing so, they reinforce the existential reality that a patient lives in a world in which the rights of other people must also be respected. This kind of support system offers the best basis for maintaining the integrity of the family system and for drawing secure boundaries around a chaotic inner world."
