It took only one day at college for life to throw a wrench in Alyssa's plans. When she walks into the quirky used bookstore just off campus she expects to find a few old paperbacks, not to lose her head over the store's sexy owner - and Kyle is way out of her league, the kind of sex-on-a-stick bad boy who would never give a girl like her a second thought. Or would he? There's nothing Alyssa loves more than a good challenge, and this one promises to be a lot more exciting than running for class president. She just wants to make Kyle notice her, that's all - to see her as a woman. How hard can that be? She'll stop before she gets in over her head. But she can't get those smoldering brown eyes and sinful smile out of her mind, and she keeps imagining his full, soft lips hovering a breath away from her own.
Would kissing him really be so dangerous?
Kyle doesn't do sweet and innocent. He certainly doesn't mess with the kind of college girls who will still be getting carded when they're forty. But one look at Alyssa's smile is enough to shake him, and he can't seem to make himself push her away. It's a mistake and he knows it - he's too old for her, she's not remotely his type, and he's not into relationships - but she's under his skin like no other woman has ever managed before. He knows he can't have her, but maybe he can have just a little taste? He can always stop, any time he wants to, before he gets in too deep with her. What can it hurt? Just one kiss, and then he can stop. Can't he?
I've always been a sucker for a good love story. I'm really not picky, I like a little of everything. Contemporary, Regency, PNR, historical, romantic suspense. Just give me a pair of MCs to fall for and a good story, and I'm set.
These days I can't make up my mind whether I enjoy reading or writing romances more, so I do a lot of both. I started self-publishing in 2012, and quit my day job to pursue writing as a full time career in 2015.
I also write erotica under the pen name Kelli Wolfe.
First time reading this author it was a great first read and will definitely read more of her stories.
Alyssa is settling in to college with her best friends, she is the epitome of a bookworm and when she discovers a a bookshop with old and rare books she’s overjoyed and then she meets Kyle. He’s older than her but she’s attracted to him from the start and sets out to pursue him. Can she get him to admit her feelings?
Kyle has been running the bookshop since his father died, he lives quite a solitary life but when he sees Alyssa he suddenly wants more. But she’d never want an older man like him surely. Will he ever be able to admit to his feelings or will he let her walk away?
In the beginning, this book was a solid two stars. Then something happened and my frozen heart was melted by this cozy romance story between two bookworms. I guess I'm just a sucker for a happy, fluffy lovestory. It also helped that the book was short, so it was a quick read and I was in the mood for this type of book.
Hach... This was a novella so you can't really expect a very thorough review here. I do really like novellas, but I guess I like books much more. The problem with this novella, though, wasn't that it wasn't a book,...
We've got a love-at-first-sight instance here, and I gotta admit I love novellas about that topic. But with those two characters, it just didn't work for me. The age difference? Cool topic! Love it, and for those two it totally works! I like them together and I love the whole bookstore and the chemistry between them.
But there were no emotions in this novella, no stories about their past (I mean, yes, it was hinted at what they've 'been through' but they never really talk about it), the conversations were too few and the beginning totally didn't work for me. I had no clue who this book would be about because we get to know all the friends and there is no first-person perspective so that was really difficult for me and maybe one of the reasons why I didn't take to the characters.
A college freshman finds herself falling for the owner of a local bookstore who has issues with their age difference.
The hero and heroine in FIRST TO FALL aren't your usual NA couple. Alyssa is a college freshman with a passion for books and Kyle is about ten years older and owns a bookstore. He's kind of jaded and his attraction to this spunky younger woman sets off all sorts of alarms for him. His continual angst over their growing relationship can get a little annoying at times. But the bookstore setting is believable and the author uses it and events surrounding it to effectively to bring the characters together. Alyssa also has an interesting group of friends--good material for future novellas in this planned series.
For a novella there's plenty of character and plot. It escapes most of the cliches that can undermine New Adult books. I plan to read the other books in the series.
This was a fast read at 65 pages. I liked the premise of the story, but I felt it needed more because of lot of key competes were left out for me to enjoy it. It had lots of potential but fell flat for me, leaving me with more questions than answers when it was all over.
This book is a quick interesting read. It was well written with likeable characters. The girls seemed shallow at first but then they are just out of high school. The older man younger woman was well played but turns out it may only have been in his head since not even their families seem overly concerned. It would have been helpful to know what exactly was the age difference . I actually enjoyed the read for entertainment factor.
Short sweet and uncluttered. I liked that the story wasn't full of erotic scenes that took up an entire chapter. It was simply meet, have a conflict, and then resolution. There wasn't even a lead in to the next in the series. This tells me this is a series worth reading in its entirety
Very simple and super quick read. I don't start books without finishing them but not much kept me wanting to read more. Incredibly predictable story. Nothing unique about it. I didn't care for the age gap between Kyle and Alyssa either.
A really interesting and sweet love story. I find it interesting that the protagonists in this series seems to be significantly separated in age with the male older or more expo than our heroine.
A very cozy novella where 2 booklovers fall in love with each other, the catch? He is older than her and also she had no experience in the love department since during high school she only focus on her studies.
It was good but seemed to move too quickly and jumped to i love you’s rather quickly. But it was still good I just think it could’ve used more build up.
A short novel that lacks interest, it may float other peoples boat but it did nothing to keep mine afloat. Like the plot as well as the love interest, but feel it lacks something to make it POP!
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Well it’s the beginning of a new semester and this college town is overrun with students. Four friends who are now college freshmen are out and about, doing what most young girls seem to do, shop. Alyssa, the bookworm, happens upon a used bookstore run by Kyle. There is instant attraction and over time, a relationship of sorts begins when they start to meet daily in the park for lunch. Check out the book today if you want to know if it has an HEA or not This is a sweet novella. The characters draw you in and you want to know more about them. Being only about 72 pages, you wish there was more… I, of course being a book lover, love the fact that some of the setting is in a used bookstore. I know I’ve spent many an hour browsing, but never came across a store owner as fine as Kyle. Definitely 5 stars for me and I hope there is more stories coming
