Catherine Blair (a.k.a. Cordia Byers) grew up in Texas, were she spent her high school years writing romances for her friends. She received her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Cornell University and currently studies opiate addiction. No one else thinks that the pun between "heroin addiction" and "heroine addiction" is as funny as she does. Catherine is a member of the Romance Writers of America and lives with her husband in San Diego, California.
This MOC traditional regency is decidedly different. Gillian didn’t want to get married to any of the gentlemen included in her Mother’s “great plan”. To escape the situation, she set out to “ruined” herself by orchestrating a “ran away and found” scheme. Shortly after, Gillian receives a note from Viscount Avery asking her to marry him, sight unseen. Avery is a widower with 3 young children leaving in remote Irish county. He wants to marry again for the sake of his children even though he still grieves for his late wife. Gillian decides to marry him as she senses his loneliness from the letter. The story spans one year and focuses on Gillian's attempts to be good mother to the children and supportive wife to her husband. She is a refreshingly strong, mature, and very likable heroine and for this alone I rated the story as 3.5. The rating would be much higher if not for some historical inaccuracies as well as the hero who appears to be weak and too beta for me.
I loved the heroine One of those sensible mature one's, so original, so patient, rare to read about but again she got a bad deal. I rarely get to read about these amazing H and h where both of them deserved each other either the H lacks or h Here with an amazing h we have a beta selfish H. Again i say for the h to endure what she had to with the H, the least could be done was a proper declaration plus spoiling for the h, but it didn't happen, and whatever love words he spoke was when she was ill so she may not have known "I like being married to you'" "You are Fun" Really!!! Though the H was fine but i really got frustrated with him those times when he didn't defend the h against his children and family and even if he did it was very mild and not the way she deserved to be defended. With half of the people in the book comparing the dead wife and the ex wife, i just hoped the H would have something to stop if not at the first then later.
The heroine is very likeable right off the bat. The hero's internal arc is really good. Normally I don't like stories where one person is still in love with someone else, but this one worked very well.
