It's an ordinary school day, and the students, teachers, principal, and staff are all busy, until D.E.A.R. time--Drop Everything and Read time--when all the people in the school stop what they are doing and pick up books
Ann McGovern Scheiner (née Weinberger) was an American writer of more than 55 children's books, selling over 30 million copies. She may be best known for her adaptation of Stone Soup, as well as Too Much Noise, historical and travel non-fiction, and biographies of figures like Harriet Tubman and Deborah Sampson Gannett and Eugenie Clark.
Having grown up with D.E.A.R. time in elementary I had to order this when I saw it on a swap site. I hadn't read it but wasn't disappointed. It shows a great variety of different activities at school and that it isn't only children who read when it is D.E.A.R. time. It really brought me back to my enjoyment at school of pulling out whichever book I was reading and having that be part of the school day.
I love "Drop Everything, It's a D.E.A.R Time"! At the beginning of the year I would use this book to introduce the procedure/routine for D.E.A.R time in the classroom. Everyone in the book is waiting for D.E.A.R. time to be here. I hope this book will inspire my future student to be excited for this set aside time to read whatever they want to!
This book totally got even me to get pumped up about reading. Not only does it show that everyone, not just little kids read books, but also, it shows you all the cool things that you can learn how to do in school. Things such as making sculptures out of clay, paint, learn about scuba diving, play sports, bake, and make volcano's.The pictures were so much fun too, they used a lot of water colors.
I found this book to be very informative and knowledgeable for kids because it not only shows how everyone enjoys D.E.A.R time, but it also shows how cool and fun school can be and what children would learn and go through at school.
i really enjoyed reading this book, it shows how reading is fun. it also shows how enjoyable school can be. the author choose very perfect examples of that when he illustrated how the children kept asking is it D.E.A.R time. so Drop Everything And Read.
