Boys & Sex gives the straight, unvarnished truth-in language boys can understand-about that mysterious and disturbing side of every boy's nature: his sexual self.
only really worth reading now as a curiosity as it is obviously quite dated. startlingly progressive at times though you get the sense that pomeroy is often trying to hold himself back as the book was intended for general consumption. his background in private sex therapy is very apparent with numerous references to shame and guilt surrounding sex, rejection etc. throughout the book.
I found this in my local library, remembered it was on the challenged list and decided to give it a read. It's not something I'd give to a pre-teen...it doesn't even seem to be marketed toward that age group. It covers a vast array of topics, many of them very mature and many of them considered very controversial. But it takes a very upfront and honest viewpoint, it avoids making judgements about various activities and is very informative. As a woman, I feel like I learned a lot about male adolescents and how their minds think. This would even be valuable to a teenage girl, so that they might understand that mostly boys think about sex. all. the. time. And that the guy they want to date, he doesn't really just want to hold her hand...
This man said " Incest between adults and younger children can also prove to be a satisfying and enriching experience." America wake up!! A creep and a scum who who is pro men and a rapist. He is Pro-incest and even wrote a manifesto.
Although dated, this book holds a special place in my sexual maturation. Sex, as you might imagine, was not discussed in my household in the late 60s to early 70s. I had never seen a naked man so had nothing to compare the changes that puberty caused in my mind and body. This book became a lab manual for ways to masturbate and other sexual experiences -- With the odd warning that one shouldn't do it (masturbate) too often! Good times.
