A visit to the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec Inuit Art exhibit this spring piqued my interest in Inuit art, culture, and history. This book was published in 1973 and traces the history of Inuit peoples and how their art changed from its decorative purpose for tools to the art created today as a source of pride and income. I love the themes of Inuit art: family, the hunt, and the natural and spiritual worlds. I love how smooth lines and shapes capture the essence of life. For someone with a new appreciation and who wants to learn more, Eskimo Art is a good place to start.
