The Dr Hedgehog picture book series is intended to be read aloud to young children. Both the readers and the listeners will enjoy the stories. There are common characters, but each story can be read independently of the others. In most of the stories, Martin Mouse finds himself in awkward situations but Dr Hedgehog, usually with the help of other animals, is always able to assist. Children will recognise their mothers in Mavis Mouse, who worries about her son and is always greatly relieved when he arrives home safely. In this story, Mavis Mouse cannot find her son. Martin Mouse has fallen into a post-box and cannot climb out. How does Dr Hedgehog get him out?
Today We Did Martin Mouse has disappeared again. His mum is very worried, so she calls Dr Hedgehog to help search for Martin.
This simple picture book is part of a series covering the mishaps of Martin Mouse and his saviour, Dr Hedgehog. Each book is able to be read independently of the other books in the series.
The plot is basic, the language simple and the text large, great for early readers to try. I read this book to my younger children, and they all seemed to enjoy the story. My eldest child, at eight, thought it was much too easy for her.
The illustrations are large and clear, though I wasn’t keen on the image of Dr Hedgehog. I normally find hedgehogs rather cute, but Dr Hedgehog is actually a little scary. Maybe it’s the spines coming through his doctor’s coat, or his grumpy expression throughout the book. Even when the rescue is complete and he can finally go home, he still doesn’t look happy. This kind of spoilt the book for me, though my kids didn’t seem to mind, and asked for a re-read.
Dr Hedgehog and the Post Box Rescue is suitable for preschoolers and children in lower primary school.

I had never heard of 'Dr Hedgehog' before, I knew my class would enjoy it, as they always love a picture book so was pleased when this was sent to me for review.
Well, this book I thought was O.K, personally I am not keen on the illustrations or the plot, this was something that my class identified too. Dr Hedgehog should be giving animals medicine or making them better, however in this story he is on a mission to get a mouse out of a post box.
It was quite a sweet and short story that would be good for younger readers to attempt on their own. The text is relatively large and although a few tricky words, that they children probably wouldn't understand there is a lot they could access. The tricky words provide a discussion between the adult and the child which is nice.
I would recommend this to younger children, I read it to 6 and 7 year olds and although it did keep their attention I feel it would be better suited to 4 or 5 year olds.
I would like to thank the publisher for sending this in exchange for an honest review.
Such a cute series for young children, especially boys. Martin Mouse is a little boy mouse who seems to find himself in trouble. Despite his mom always warning him of ways to avoid trouble, he still seems to find it. Luckily he has a community of animals looking out for him, led by Dr. Hedgehog, and they are always there to lend a hand to get little Martin out of trouble. This is a fun series and my son really enjoys all the characters. We also enjoy the pull-out posters included in each book. *I received a set of this series in exchange for my honest review*
I don't have any kids to read aloud the picture book, so I can't say anything about young children reactions or something similar. But the book got some nice artwork and the format of the book is pretty big. You will get a cute and big poster of Dr Hedgehog. The quality of the book is awesome, thick high quality paper and its feeling good. The story is simple and exciting, I think young children will love it.
I liked it. It was a simple story even the youngest could follow. A few harder words for the eldest kept him interested. All 3 kids came to listen and liked the poster. The pictures were bright and nice and we enjoyed reading this book. Thankyou to Jerry and Goodreads for giving this book to us.
I read this book to my grand children and they both seem to enjoyed it and were pleased it had a happy ending. Lots of wonderful colorful pictures and even a poster to hang on the wall. It has become a bedtime book to reread. Just to let you know I did receive this book for free.
