My rating: 4.5

How often do you come across a book where the protagonist of the story sounds like you. With almost a few tears in my eyes, I say this book’s protagonist sounded like myself. The author’s take on emotions, love, selfishness and others is highly thought provoking. The story is moving and makes the reader question himself.

This is my first read of Shri Yandamuri and I have a feeling that his other books will rush into my library in the next few weeks. The prose is so simple even novice Telugu readers can fly through pages. Definitely an unputdownable.

I’d be happy to recommend this book and I have a feeling that this book is going to change my life in some ways (hopefully).

I loved the book. Loved everything that's discussed - it also left me amazed at how can someone be that practical.

But when I got to know it is a copy of Stranger by Albert Camus, I felt I would've read the original than a copy.

ఈ మధ్య సామాజిక మాధ్యమాలలో విశృంఖలమౌతున్న సెన్సేషన్లిజం, if-its-popular-it-should-be-good అనుకునే ధోరణి, "జిత్నా బిఖేగా ఉత్నా ఖూబ్ హోగా" అనిపించుకునే ధోరణి, వేలంవెర్రుల తాలూకా మూలాలు 80ల్లో తెనుగు సాహిత్యంలో ప్రయోగించి, ప్రావీణ్యం సాధించి, దశాబ్దాల పాటు తనకంటూ ఒక మార్కెట్ సృష్టించుకున్న ట్రూ టు ది కోర్ కమర్షియల్ రచయిత యండమూరి.

అంతర్ముఖం నవల మొదలు పెట్టబోతూ ఒకరితో నేనన్న మాటలివి:

నేనాయనవి చదువుతున్న వాటిలో ఇది మూడవ నవలే. Law of averages (@ sentences) మూలంగా స్టాట్ ప్యాడెడ్ రచయిత ఈయన. అసలీయన కోసమే కాదు ఇది మొదలు పెట్టింది.

He is, indeed, an intellectual. I give him that. ఆయన సృష్టించిన పాత్రల్లో రెండే రకాలు. ఒకటీ తనలా ఆలోచించే ఒకట్రెండు పాత్రలు. రెండోది ఇహ (తాననుకునే)తన స్థాయి కంటే తక్కువ ఇంటెల్లక్ట్ ఉన్న లేదా సాధారణ పాత్రలు. మొదటిరకం పాత్రలు అస్తమానం తామెందుకు అలా ఉంటామో తార్కికంగా రెండోరకం పాత్రలకు పరిపరి విధాల వివరించడానికి ప్రాకులడుతూన్నట్టే అగుపిస్తాయి. ఆస్తికత్వాన్ని, మానవ సంబంధాలను, రాగద్వేషాలను ఈయన పరికించి (మధ్యలో తన తన జడ్జిమెంట్లను ఇరికించి), వాటిని దునుమాడుతూ సాగే రచనాధోరణి one-dimensional గా, పోను పోను monotonous గా ఉంటుంది. సాంకేతికపరిజ్ఞానానికి లొంగని మనుష్య జీవితాంశాలను విజ్ఞానంతో కొలవాలని ప్రయత్నిస్తూ, ఆ అంశాలను లోతుగా విశ్లేషించకుండా, పైకి కనపడే లోకం పోకడలను బట్టి ఆ అంశాలపై తీర్పులు గుప్పిస్తూ వెళ్ళిపోతాడు. ఇది హిపోక్రసీ. వింతగా సాధారణ ప్రజలలో ఈయన ఎక్కువ నిరసించేది కూడా ఇదే హిపోక్రసీనే. కానీ అరుదుగా తప్ప పాఠకులకు దొరకడు. ఒకవేళ దొరికినా అది ఆయా పాత్రల లోపంగా చూపిస్తాడు. కొన్నిసార్లు పాఠకులను ' ఇంకొన్ని పేజీల తరువాత నీకొకటి చెబుతాను. అందాక దయచేసి చదవండి.' అన్నట్లు ఉంటాయి కొన్ని వాక్యాలు/ప్రయోగాలు. ఇహ ప్రేమ అనే అంశం ఈయనకు ఉద్దరకు దొరికినట్టు, తన (మొదటి) తరహా పాత్రలలో లోపాలను ప్రేమ(అన్న భావం మాటున) వలన అధిగమింపజేయాలని ప్రయత్నిస్తారు.

పాఠకుల ఆలోచనా ధోరణిని కదిలించి, కొద్దివరకు ప్రభావితం చేయగలడు కానీ చదువరుల అంతర్దృష్టిని, సంఘదృక్పథాన్ని బలపరచడం కానీ, రససిద్ధి కలిగించడం కానీ ఈయన రచనలు చేయవు. వెన్నెల్లో ఆడపిల్ల అనే నవల మాత్రం ఈ దిశగా స్వల్పంగా మెరుగైనదే(నేను చదివిన ఈయన నవలల్లో). కానీ ఆ నవల ఉత్సుకత ప్రధానంగా వెళ్ళే కథనం.

కాఫీ/టీలు సేవిస్తే మెదడు (కొద్దిసేపు)చురుకుగా పనిచేస్తుందని చెప్పి గంటగంటకూ ఒక కప్పు ఎలా తాగలేమో, చదివే వారికి "నేను ఎంతో నేర్చుకుంటున్నాను/కొత్త దృక్కోణం అలవరచుకుంటున్నాను/కొత్త విషయం తెలుసుకుంటూ ఉన్నాను" అని (కేవలం)అనిపిస్తూ సాగే ఇలాంటి రచనావైనం పుస్తకాలు చదివాను అనిపించుకోవడం చదవాలి తప్పితే మరో ప్రయోజనం తోచలేదు (నాకు). ఇలా వ్రాస్తూ పోతే, అధికం వ్యాపారాత్మక లక్షణాలే కనపడతాయి కానీ కళస్థాయికి ఎదగ(లే)వు. ఒక్కమాటలో జంక్ఫుడ్ అని చెప్పొచ్చు.

ప్రేమ అంటే ఏంటి?? ప్రేమలో కూడా స్వార్థం ఉందా?? ఈ సమాజంలో ప్రతి మనిషికి ఇంకో మనిషితో ఎదో ఒక అవసరం ఉంటుంది.. ఆ అవసరాల్ని తీర్చుకోవడం కోసమే ఈ బంధాలు, బందుత్వాలు సృష్టించుకున్నాడా??

మనిషి బ్రతికిఉన్నన్నపుడు పట్టించుకోని సమాజం.. చనిపోయిన వెంటనే ఎక్కడ లేని ప్రేమ, మంచితనం చూపిస్తుంది... ఎందుకు??

మనిషికి తోడు లేకుండా బ్రతకాలేడా?? ఒంటరితనం అలవాటు చేసుకోడేందుకు??

అసలు మనిషి ప్రేమ జీవా? లేదా స్వార్దజీవా??

ఇలాంటి ఎన్నో ప్రశ్నలు.. మనలో చాలా వరకు వచ్చే ఉంటాయి.. మనమే ఏదోవిధంగా తప్పించుకుంటూ తిరుగుతున్నాం!!

ఆ ప్రశ్నలకి కొంత వరకు సమాధానం తన అనుభవాలతో,తన భావాల్ని "అంతర్ముఖం" అనే నవల లో రాసిపెట్టారు యండమూరి వీరేంద్రనాథ్ గారు!!

ఇది నవల అనే కంటే ఒక textbook లేదా ఒక guide అని చెప్పచ్చు... మన భారతీయ సంస్కృతి, మన కర్మ సిద్ధాంతాన్ని western philosophy ఐనా objectivism ని పోలుస్తూ జరిగే ఒక సంఘర్షణ మనం చూడచ్చు...

వీటితో పాటు oldageలో ఉండే మానసిక రుగ్మతలు... ఆ సమయంలో తన చుట్టూ వాళ్ళు ఎలా ఉంటారు... ఆ సమయంలో ఉండే ఒంటరితనం.. ఇలా వృద్దాప్యంలో ఉండే ఎన్నో విషయాలు మనకి తెలుస్తుంది...

చివరిగా.. ఈ పుస్తకం చదివితే ఈ సమాజంని చూసే తీరు చాలా వరకు మారుతుంది... మన ప్రశ్నలకి సమాధానం దొరకపోయినా.. మనలో ఆలోచన శక్తి మాత్రం తప్పకుండా పెరుగుతుంది!!!

ప్రేమలో విఫలమైన వాళ్లు, ఈ సమాజం మీద నమ్మకం కోల్పోయిన వాళ్ళు తప్పకుండా చదవాల్సిన పుస్తకం ఇది!!!

It might have been a great book for it’s time, but for me reading this in 2019 was not that appealing! It is still a decent read thought! But it really changed my perspective with a single line, if you keep focusing on everyone’s weaknesses then that will become your weakness! Go for it , wouldn’t take much time to read !

పుస్తకాలు నవలలు చదివే అలవాటు పెద్దగా లేని నాకు, ఒక స్నేహితుని ఛాలెంజ్ రెండవ నవల గా "అంతర్ముఖం" అనే బుక్ చదివేలా చేసింది. మొదట్లో చదవటం కొంచం ఇబ్బందిగా అనిపించినా " వెన్నెల్లో ఆడపిల్ల " చదివాక చాలా మారిపోయింది నా ఆలోచన.

ఇక "అంతర్ముఖం" విషయానికొస్తే..
నిజానికి ఈ పుస్తకం గురించి చెప్పటానికి నేను చాలా చిన్నదాన్ని, నాకు తెలిసిన మాటలు కూడా సరిపోవేమో అనిపిస్తుంది..

పుస్తకం మొదటి పేజీ లో నే "పర్సనాలిటీ" అంటే ఏంటో చెప్పడం "మాటలు - చేతలు ఒకేలా ఉండటం ఎంత అవసరమో చెప్పడం" పుస్తకం పైన ఆసక్తిని ఇంకా పెంచేశాయి..

నా వరకు ప్రతి పేజీ లో ప్రతి ఒకరు తెలుసుకోవలసిన విష్యం, ఆలోచించవలసిన విషయం తప్పక దొరికి తీరుతుంది.

ఒక మనిషి బ్రతికిఉన్నన్నపుడు పట్టించుకోని సమాజం, కుటుంబం, చనిపోయిన వెంటనే ఎక్కడ లేని ప్రేమ, మంచితనం చూపిస్తుంది, ఆ ప్రేమ ఎలాంటి ప్రేమ అనేది తెలుసుకోవచ్చు..

చుట్టూ ఉన్న సమాజాన్ని మనం ఎలా చూస్తున్నామో తెలియజేస్తుంది, ఒక మనిషి ఎలా ఉండాలో ఎలా ఉండకూడదో తెలిసేలా చేస్తుంది.

ఈ పుస్తకం చదివితే మన చుట్టూ ఉన్న సమాజాన్ని చూసే తీరు చాలా వరకు మారుతుంది.మనలో ఉన్న చాలా ప్రశ్నలకి సమాధానం దొరకవచ్చు లేదా మనలో ఆలోచనలో మార్పు రావచ్చు..

"ప్రేమ" అంటే ఏమిటో తెలియని ఒక "materialistic " మానవుని జీవితమే ఈ పుస్తకం.
"నిజమైన ప్రేమ నీ నుండి ఏమి కోరకుండానే నీ దగ్గరికి వస్తుంది నీకు కావాల్సినవన్నీ ఇస్తుంది" అనేది ఈ పుస్తక ముగింపు.

ప్రతి ఒకరు ఒకసారైనా తప్పక చదవలిసిన పుస్తకం.

My first ever Telugu book. Since, I can't read Telugu but understand Audiobooks came as a blessing. This novel is also said to be the retelling of French Philosopher Albert Camus' "The Stranger". The book discusses about the existentialism, Beliefs, Human relationships and much more. Although, I enjoyed this book I'm not sure why the author wrote the Prologue and Epilogue. Even though the book talks about various things happens in a life of a man who detaches himself from Human emotions and as a typical Indian Cinema towards the climax a Woman changes his heart and behavior, especially his perception towards mankind. But in the Epilogue, the book seems to acknowledge what the Protagonist believed from the start If the author is going to contradict what he preaches throughout the story and end it in a different note and in the Epilogue nods to the Protagonist's behavior I don't understand the reason for the philosophy. Think I should read the Original and get a clarity. Nevertheless, baring the Prologue and an Epilogue this book talks so much philosophy and I even thought if someone translates in Tamil it would be nice.

Very good psychological drama. The intensity in the drama is expected but the psychological discourse about love, human relations, values, greed is unexpectedly deep. We can observe influence of ayn rand work but not as deep and intense as her work, but still it manages to be in that vicinity. I still find that god angle unnecessary, but those epilogue is gut wrenching. Writing is simple and effective... to a certain extent, i might be wrong, but may be a better prose might elevate the novel, i'm not saying its bad, its really good, i believe narrating any subject in a simple manner is very complicative thing, but still i dont know i read it too fast and i understood everything. may be reading ayn rand beforehand helped me.(It's flexing guys...)
I can see lot of parallels between howard roark and this protagonist. Still the character arc of this protagonist is suprising and soo indian...

ಯಂಡಮೂರಿ ಅವರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಅನುವಾದಿತ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನ ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 30 ರಂದು ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿದೆ. ನಾಲ್ಕು ದಿನದ ಹಿಂದೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದ ಓದು, 200+ ಹಾಳೆಗಳನ್ನ ಸಲೀಸಾಗಿ ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಯಿತು. ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಶೈಲಿ, ಆಳ, ಸಣ್ಣ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಸಿನಿಮೀಯತೆ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಇದೆ. ರವಿ ಬೆಳೆಗೆರೆಯವರ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನ ಓದುತ್ತಾ ಸಿಗುವ ಹರಹು ಈ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನ ಓದುವಾಗಲೂ ಅನುಭವವಾಯ್ತು. ಓದುಗನ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಣ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿ ದಿನವೂ ನಡೆಯತಕ್ಕ ಅತಿಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವೇನೋ ಅನ್ನುವಂತಹ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನೂ ಬಿಡದೆ, ಅವುಗಳ ಆಳಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಕ್ಕು ಅವನ್ನ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಪಡಿಸಿರುವ ಕಲೆ ಪ್ರಶಂಸನೀಯ.

ನಮ್ಮ ಸುತ್ತ ಮುತ್ತ ದಿನವೂ ನಡೆಯು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಘಟನೆಯೂ ಒಂದು ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥಕ್ಕೋ ಅಥವಾ ಪ್ರೀತಿಗೋ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತವೆ, ಯಾವುದೂ random ಅಥವಾ independent ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಾಗಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲಾ ಎನ್ನುವ ಸಿದ್ಧಾಂತವನ್ನು ಈ ಕೃತಿಯ ಕರ್ತೃ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗ್ತಾನೆ. ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪೂರ್ವಾಗ್ರಹಪೀಡಿತ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೇ ಓದುವಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನವ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂದಬೇಕಾದ ಕೆಲವಾದರೂ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನ ದೊರಕಿಸಿಕೊಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋತಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದೇ ನನ್ನ ವಯ್ಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ.

Read two books back to back dealing with the death, helplessness and the selfish nature of humans. Metamorphosis was a brilliant take but the writer forces us to imagine things whereas in this book the writer tries to explain everything(Sometimes a bit too much)...

The book is good... It will make you think about life, death, love, the need for another person in life... The lead character's change from "A man does everything out of selfish interests" to "A man does things out of pure love" is the gist of the book IMO...

Overall a good one... Will read "The Outsider" by Albert Camus on which this book is based on...

This book is a poor attempt at fusing Albert Camus’s The Stranger and the author’s muddled pop psychology/philosophy. The author comes across as a bad student from an Ayn Rand classroom. The prologue and the epilogue are unnecessary adding nothing to the plot. Also the bit about the protagonist confronting the priest in this context seems forceful and belies any faithful attempt at a ‘fusion’.

This is the first book that i have read among all the books of Yendamuri Veerendranath.

మానవ సంబందాలు, మానవుని ఆలోచనలు వీటితో పాటు సమాజాన్ని భూతద్దంలో చూపించిన ఈ నవల అట్టమీద రాసిన విధంగా రచయితకు బాగా నచ్చిన పుస్తకంగా ఎందుకైందో అర్థమవుతుంది.
