Special Agent Zachery Murphy is hardly one to crack a smile, carry on small talk or have regrets. On an undercover mission with the ATF to capture members of an international weapons and money smuggling operation that has hit U.S. soil, Zach is suddenly thrust into a situation unfamiliar to him. He’s never dealt with a person in his custody as mouthy, feisty, and uncontrollable as Carla Parker.
Carla Parker is an innocent citizen thrown in a situation that has left her scarred, scared, and dependent on a cold, emotionless, and rude FBI agent to keep her alive. Because of his attitude, she is finding it hard to relax in the care of Agent Murphy and counteracts by repeatedly disobeying him which pisses him off.

This is Zack and Carla's story. I am familiar with this author's writing and have enjoyed her stories before. However, I think this one will be my favourite.
Carla is a outspoken feisty black woman caught up in something not of her own making. Zack is the undercover FBI agent trying to keep her safe but who is totally insensitive to her plight and to her as a woman.
Carla is the heat and Zack is the ice so you can imagine the sparks flying in this story. I loved this couple. The author grabbed my attention right away with this story. Normally she can take a little time to warm up but we were right out of the gate with this story, fast moving, full of action and great dialogue between the couple.
I would highly recommend this book as a great read!
This was my first time with this author and let me say now it will not be my last! I enjoyed every page and because it was a complete story where no question went unanswered made me a fan so yeah just great!
Carla meets FBI AGENT Zach at the bus stop when she is suddenly pulled into a shootout with him and murderous bad guys. Before she can say pull over, she and Zach are on the run for their lives. This is a rollicking, opposites attract story. Terse, mean man whore Zach and outspoken, outgoing friendly Carla make strange companions.....their road to love is funny with angst, loss, passion and action. So good. Going to buy it for my library.
This book pretty much had me at hello. It dove right into the action and you are left wondering what the hell happened, who is the bad guy and what does he want??!! The author was pretty effective in establishing the storyline and taking you for a wild ride.
After a long day of work, Carla just can't wait to get home! She heads to the bus stop and waits for her preferred means of transportation as she always does. However this day will not be like the others...She is caught in the crossfire of what seems like some gang/mob related violence. She is swept off the bloody scene by a muscular, intimidating man who vows to protect her. Though she does not completely trust him, she has no choice but to follow him.
Zach is an FBI agent dedicated to his work. He is effective, swift and will stop at nothing to accomplish his mission. He has no emotional attachments, therefore he is ready for anything. So when takes Carla with him to a safe house and waits for is boss's instructions. However his confidence waivers because he has to deal with a situation he has never dealt with before: a black woman as a client. *GASP*
The main characters’ personalities clash from the get go;it is not pretty but it seems so real.Zach has had limited contact with black women and bases his opinions of them mainly on his good friend’s feedback. And let me tell you the feedback is not pretty! Following his breakup with his wife, Zack's friend Rodney paints all black women with the same brush: harsh, annoying, ballbusting and the like. I like how the author displayed the politically incorrect musings and words of all the characters. It was not all kumbaya-we are-the-world, underneath-it-all-we-are-all-the-same kinda thing. Each character had their prejudices, their lacunas and it made everything realistic. Zach seemed to think BW are of another species altogether and does not know how to cohabit with them. On the other hand, Carla has the habit of being forceful, loudmouth, she brings race into everything and seems to fear being viewed as a stereotype. Honestly, it’s the little glimpses of the characters humanity that impressed me. They were very un-PC.
Some pretty heavy topics were addressed without delving too much into it and taking away from the story. I have to say that I was more interested in resolving the mystery than the budding love story. For me, there was something missing between the main characters and I can't really identify it. There was a little ZING! missing. I think my main issue is how there was very little buildup in their relationship. I like to be teased a little and I like for the seXual tension to mount, and mount before is comes to fruition. I feel like outta nowhere, they jumped in bed and BAM! Plus the smut scene were a bit lacking IMO. Once they start to appreciate each other, it became enjoyable I must say.
Another thing:I wish the villain was developed a little more. He just felt like a remote figure haunting and hunting the protagonists, I like to know what my antagonist is about so I can hate them too. But I guess the main focus was the issues with the characters and having them letting go of their prejudices and fears.
FINAL VERDICT: Was I totally entertained? yes! I loved the dialogue, and I loved the characters backgrounds and their quirks even if they were frustrating. I really did see them grow and open up to each other!! I Did find some typos, so that was a bit of an annoyance. Otherwise good job, great pacing, great dialogue, great action. I hope there will be a little more mush and emotions in my next read ;)
Like a little cat, it was hard to keep Carla trapped!
This was really entertaining! I guess Carla and Zack were like chocolate and vanilla ice cream, you see and taste the difference. But, when put together, they work out so well together! I would also compare Carla to a feisty little cat, who will scratch when she is riled up, but stroke her for a bit and she purrs!
This is the 3rd book I read by Ms. Brown & I must admit she is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I've read over 160 interracial ebooks since March of 2014 and enjoyed most of them, but I do have my favorite authors that when they debute their new books, I don't hesitate to purchase. This book grabbed me from beginning to end, a real page turner, the suspense was so intriguing I couldn't put the book down long enough to start/finish my chores which included washing my hair. I swear I'm going to have to have these authors come over and help me clean, run my errands, see/phone family, friends, etc... I started this book at 6am and finished about 6pm. I wanted to make this 5 stars but because of errors I wanted to take off 1/2 a star, but couldn't so I settled for 4 stars (should be 4 1/2 though). Thank you, Ms. Brown, you did not disappoint.
A detailed and well-developed plot with the characters in, at the beginning, an unlikely and fiery relationship. Both Zack and Carla have issues and neither is willing to back down but we, the readers, enjoy the ride as both are placed in some dangerous situations with some bad men after them. Zack is cold, controlled and aloof whereas Carla is feisty, insecure and stubborn. Not a good mix!! This was an engaging, dramatic and romantic read. I am so sorry that I have underestimated this writer who not only gives the readers value for money but Ms. Toya Lawson Brown's books are well written with all the ingredients one would expect in a romantic suspense and... some!
I shall be reading more of your books Ms. Brown and would heartily and unreservedly recommend this one for a gripping read. Thank you so much!
In Caught in A Trap, author Toye Lawson Brown, Carla Parker meets Zach Murphy in a set of circumstance that will put them together in more way than one. These to don't hit it off very well, Carla has not idea that Zach is an undercover FBI agent sent to thaw her kidnapping by a Russian mob boss who is really seek her cousins. Zach looks like a mean biker when Carla first sees him at the bus stop, where the danger ensues and has both Carla and Zach running for their lives. After three day at a cabin, passion ignites between these two and leaves Zach's head spinning. Unbeknownst to Zach the threat against him and Carla is coming from inside the organization.
I really enjoyed this book. The chemistry between Zach and Carla was hot. My only issue with book, that stopped me from giving the book 5 stars, is that from 70% to 100%, everything seemed rushed and did not quite flow as well as the rest of the books. There were also a few things that did not make sense in the book and the transition from one thing happening to something else happening was off. Anyway, this is my first time reading a book by this author and I look forward to reading more.
Caught In The Trap is a very exciting and thrilling interracial romance novel that earned a rating of four stars. A FBI agent was assigned to protect a young African-American woman from assassins. Through the adversity the fall in love and have to fight physically and emotionally for their love. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a good book.
I enjoyed reading this book. Carla sure kept me on my toes with her sassiness and Zach, well Zach was Zach, quiet and stuff, kind of like the strong silent type but came out in the end for his lady.
Pleasant read, there is a bit of sadness within the story though.
I don't how this author manages to keep her prices so low but hey, I'm not complaining.
The author's other books are much better. I don't know what it was but I couldn't connect with the main characters, especially Carla. At least not until about 60% into the book. But then some of the exchanged between Zach and Carla came across as forced. I really didn't feel the chemistry between them. I'm still a fan an will read the next release.
Carla and Zach's love story had action, drama, intrigue and steamy love scenes. A feisty petite woman and her quiet surly bodyguard made for a wonderful l read.
Ms Brown you delivered in this novel. I am a fan and have read all of your books. You delivered yet again. I highly recommend this story.
Loved this book, I had passed it several times thinking I would not like it but from the first page I was hooked. Loved how Carla cracked the hard shell around Zack's emotions. Loved all the suspense thought I had figured out who the bad guy was, but I was wrong until almost the end of the book.
Fast paced story that captivated me from the start, I liked that Zach wasn't the usual talkative, arrogant, self absorbed alpha male that you usually read about Carla was a very strong character too and not the feeble female that you think she'll be. The story flowed and had depth. Really good read.
Loved it. The book was full of everything I needed for a fantastic read. Carla and Zach were something else together. They were destined for each other. I couldn't put this book down until I was done!! Action packed ,sensual, breathtaking ride!! I recommend this book to EVERYONE!!
I'm a big fan of Me Brow, and I must say she has done it again. It's another hit for her tally. Please keep good books and refreshing stories coming and ill be a true fan forever
Lots of action, I felt like I was watching a movie at times. Scary in some places with hints of tragedy and lots of drama. Cold alpha male, feisty lead female. Growth an learning that loving doesn't make you less, but makes you more. I enjoyed this.
I love it so much.I read the book few months ago but still the characters, the storyline linger in my head.If the scenes, characters ( makes me wonder what happened to that characters after a few years ) still stuck like a memories that shows me this is a damn good book..
It was an enjoyable read though both protagonists sometimes were stupidly stubborn due to pride. That little bit aside, I was entertained by the story.
This book was action packed. Carla was a pint sized spitfire. I loved her sassiness and strength. She did do some foolish things and was a bit naïve when it came to her family but she wasn't going down without a fight. Zach was a hardcore FBI agent who was all about the job. The two hate each other at first but eventually sparks fly. I really wish the stereotypical surprise pregnancy was not included. I know it helped change Zach but it really wasn't needed. That being said I still highly recommend reading this book. It has suspense, drama, intrigue, and sex.
