In the book Investing For Beginners, by David Cohne, the author goes through and explains many aspects of investing in a short yet informative way. In this economically geared book, Cohne explains the more safe and high risk investment options and weighs the pros and cons based on the position of the investor. The author starts off with the fundamentals and progresses through active and passive investing, along with explaining funds and basic economics. I'm not very into reading books except non-fictitious and informative writings. I enjoy learning about something real, and this piece was just that. I am very interested in investing earlier than later in life, and was looking for a foundation of understanding. This book gave me just that, and I believe that it served its purpose as it is named Investing For Beginners. Something that I did like about this book is how the author laid it out and it's setup. It made it easier to understand where he was coming from, and where he was going with his topics. I was a little disappointed with the book's length and how shallow parts of the information were at points, but it was enough for me as I'm still learning before I dive into investing myself. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested or curious about how stocks and investing work, and if someone would like to read it, it was free on the App Store. The book did not exceed my expectations, but also did not fall short. I was simply trying to gain general knowledge on the subject, which I did. All in all, I thought the book was educational and helpful for me starting an investment.
This book does a great job of briefly covering a variety of topics in today's financial world, from the stock market, different asset classes, mutual funds, retirement investing, understanding of one's risk tolerance to constructing your portfolio. I would recommend this book to anyone getting started on their financial future, which, by the way, should be started as soon as possible if you haven't already.
That being said, there are quiet a few typos and writing errors in this book that a proofread would have found very easily, which shows that this book was published in a bit of a rush. But I guess that's just me being picky. The overall content of the book is great, it's an easy read and is a good start for beginners.
Pertains a lot to U.S citizens, but never the less you can always learn a thing or 2.
“Taking the time to read this book was a great first step, but you now need to take action. Too many people will read a book and that's it. If you truly want to benefit from this book, its time to start investing.”
Great book for total beginners that explains types of different trading instruments. Perfect starting point but could be boring for people who already know smth about investments.
Thirty minute read. Was not particularly helpful. It's essentially a reference guide that would only be used if you're already looking at investing in something. You might as well Google the information.
A bit plan and non technical. But I don't think that was the intent of the author. It provides a good basis from which to start. Overall not a bad book to begin with.
If you've never taken an economics class then this book is probably for you. Although there was some things I found helpful, it is exactly what it says it is, for beginners.
