Cynthia just wants to go home and have dinner after a hard day’s work--accounting for her Earth employer and adjusting quasar links for her secret off-world employer. But others are eyeing the planet, and they have plans of their own. Cynthia may not get dinner after all.
L.X. Cain has done it again with her latest short horror – The Inter-Galactic Gourmet. Yep, I’m hooked on her stories and this one was fantastic. Throw together aliens living amongst humans while graving human flesh, and things are bound to get wild. Cynthia has a great sense of humor as she snags herself a meal… or so she thinks. Encountering another alien species wasn’t on the cards, and let’s just say, the outcome is not what she anticipated. Cain offers us a short horror fix drowning in suspense. A must read.

Absolutely brilliant! I'm a huge fan of everything L.X. Cain writes, but she's outdone herself here.
An absolutely grotesque, yet hilarious, piece of horrific science-fiction finds poor Cynthia lost and about, flailing for her next meal. But look out what you eat, Cynthia! Sometimes it bites back.
Short, succinct, writing so poetic you'd hardly think it's about a cannibalistic alien.
Cynthia's hunger is starting to get the best of her. She doesn't know what to worry about more: the aliens infiltrating Earth or her growing appetite.
A wonderful short horror tale that will give you the creepy-crawlies. I thoroughly enjoyed the dark humor, but my favorite aspect was the marvelous details. Vivid and sometimes grotesque, I had no trouble visualizing the scenes even though a few made me squirm in my seat!
What an unexpected delight! I love this story. I was on the edge of my seat and on the edge of cracking up the whole way through. The author clearly has a wicked sense of humor as well as a strong grasp of genre tropes. Strong enough that they can be subverted in a wholly satisfying way. If you like your genre pieces with their tongues firmly in cheek, this story is for you.
On the outside, Cynthia is a regular working girl, but underneath her skin lies intergalactic secrets. She’s an alien hungry for flesh—both animal and human. When she picks up the wrong person/meal, she learns that her kind is not the only extraterrestrial being on Earth. This short story is gory, humorous, and fast-paced—exactly what I like in horror and sci-fi.
When I see the word “gourmet” I think of a gourmet meal, of delicious food. Well, sometimes a word doesn’t always turn out to mean what one thinks it means. Take Author L. X. Cain’s short story, THE INTER-GALACTIC GOURMET, for instance.
The reader meets Cynthia, who on her way home from work sees a small boy sitting on the curb, alone and hungry. So, she takes him into her apartment, an innocent, kind act, to feed a hungry boy, right? Maybe, but people are not always who or what they seem, and the story takes a little twist. Read on, if you dare.
L. X. Cain has a knack for writing spooky stories that have a surprise or two along the way. When you’re in the mood for a creepy tale, with a bit of gore, okay a lot of gore, take a look at THE INTER-GALACTIC GOURMET, a story with a different touch. You might want to read it on an empty stomach. But then, people differ in what their favorite food is. Happy eating.
Are you a horror fan who loves to feast on dark humor? Then this gourmet piece is just for you. I'm not sure if I was more horrified or amused by this 'exotic snack'. The author has an amazing sense of humor! Give this story a try!
