For me this book is far better than the average romance because it has an excellent plot, interesting characters and doesn't shy away from some very good hot scenes which are definitely erotic but not so frequent as to make this book into a run of the mill erotic romance.
It's a well written book and rather clever because for a few pages I was wondering where the story would go and then before you know it, you're gripped and half way through the book!
The author takes time to properly develop the characters rather than just using them as thinly veiled reasons for including the hot scenes.
In summary, I would call this a very good romantic thriller for adults.

A different take on my normal reads, I found this book to be a really gripping and intense thriller with an element of romance which makes for a really interesting read.

The character building and various pop culture references made for a much more solid, focused novel than many of its counterparts - everything was done just right, not overdone as is so easy to do.

It would have been easy for May Sage to overdo either side of the genre - focusing too heavily on the romance aspect or vice versa but I felt she got the balance just right and I am looking forward to seeing more work from the author in the future.

The first page of a story is a key factor for me. It will either make me yawn, put the book away or ensnare so badly I can’t stop until the story is finished. And then I Died by May Sage was a winner for me. It was definitely different from my usual reads, yet very hooking and toe curling, and I’m so, so happy I picked it up.

What hooked me most in ‘And then I Died’ was definitely its skillfully built plot. I felt as if every word was exactly where they were meant to be, building the story brick by brick and keeping the reader on one’s toes with every page. The characters were interesting both individually and together, the play between them making me gobble the pages.

However, make no mistake, this was not a light read, at least not for me. The traumatic events that kicked the ball rolling, so to speak, are no joke and would probably scar most of us if experienced personally. But then again there is this other side…with time and love you can overcome whatever difficulties are thrown on your way.

I’m looking forward to reading more from May Sage. This was a first of her books to me but definitely not the last!

And Then I Died is a gripping novel that leaves the reader wanting more. Three young women with a traumatic life event under their belts come together to get to the bottom of a scandal. Through their journeys one meets and falls in love with a man who swore off relationships until that fateful day when he met the woman he couldn’t keep his hands off of.

The power of love and its ability to change people is at the heart of the story and tells a tale virtually every reader can relate to in one way or another. Through that love, past scandals and traumas are made easier to cope with. As the story comes to a shocking end readers can’t help but wonder about the fate of each of the characters that play a part in the story.

This novel is an easy read and sends a powerful message about loving, learning and coping with struggles.

Definitely a page turner with a wonderful mix of romance, thriller and some sauciness to boot!

The two main characters are sexy, engaging, and I found myself very much involved in this story!

This is the second book I have now read by this author, and I'll be certain to pick up more! She has a quirky, easy to read style, with great characters, depth and sexiness!

And Then I Died is an erotic mystery thriller, with a spot of romance thrown in there for good measure. From the very first page I was intrigued and wanted to know more about the characters and what was happening. One of the first things I noticed about the book was the intrigue that was built when we were first introduced to Liam and “the girl” stood in his hallway, along with the mention of his bodyguard; I thought the way this was written was great, it introduced us to the characters thoughts from the outset and opened up a lot of questions for the reader.
The second thing I noticed about the book, however, was the way the term “bitch” was used several times in the first few chapters and how uncomfortable it made me feel. I tried to put myself into Liam’s head and whilst I could understand why he’d feel that way towards Beth, the way the word was used made me feel uncomfortable about his character. I’m not sure it was entirely necessary in order to get his point across that he didn’t like this new woman and a different phrasing would have made the first part of this book much better to read. “...It was exactly what the beautiful bitch was.”
Towards the beginning of the book, we learn that both main characters, Beth and Liam are particularly wealthy, but I liked how we learnt where Beth got her money from. The reader was told this information through a meeting Beth had with her bank, and I thought this was a great way to inform the reader in a subtle way. The business aspect to this book was interesting and I enjoyed learning about Liam’s business and his newest technological creation, however this aspect faded slightly as the book went on and whilst it was always present in the story, it didn’t have the same impact as it did in the beginning.
One of the aspects of the book I enjoyed was the pop-culture references, such as Imagine Dragons and Meghan Trainor, whilst some books can include these references too often, Sage got the balance just right in showing they’re modern characters set in today’s society, but not shoving it down our throats. As the story went on, the chemistry was building and in particular, the sexual chemistry.
The erotica aspect to this book was interesting. It was an enjoyable part of the story, but it didn’t override the plot line, as many erotica’s can do. It was clear through the writing style that the book was much more than a cliché erotica novel, and that it portrayed how sex was a big part of these characters lives and in particular, their relationship and attraction to one another.
I did feel as though the book became slightly weaker as it went on, the relationship seemed rushed, understandably due to the current situation, but their feelings for one another seemed hard to understand as a reader. It felt as though they jumped from one stage of knowing one another, to a completely different stage with little happening in between. The pacing was slightly rushed, as the book was under 300 pages, and a few areas could have been expanded on to help the reader absorb the plot more smoothly. From my understanding, each character will get their own book and we will learn more about the characters and the storyline in the later books, which explains the rushed ending and the lack of information about some characters.
By the end of the book, there were still some questions that were left unanswered and parts that I would have liked to know slightly more about. The rape wasn’t particularly mentioned often, other than in passing, and a little more about the situation/story of that may have helped the reader understand Beth’s character a little more. Liam’s relationship with his brother wasn’t really explained that thoroughly and although he was a main suspect, we never really knew why, other than for his money. I would have liked to know what happened in their relationship to make them question his own brother and a little more about their family dynamics. The two other girls were again, only mentioned in passing and despite being described as close friends in the beginning of the book, we didn’t see much of them towards the end.
As for the two main characters in the book, Beth was my favourite. I particularly liked how she was the strong one in the scene where Liam was in hospital, which totally blew the typical “knight in shining armour” cliché out of the water. She was a strong, feminine character that I really enjoyed reading about. Liam was a strong, successful business man who had specific tastes when it came to his sex life, a character type popular at the moment, but for good reason. Liam’s character was, at times, swoonworthy and whilst he described himself as fucked up, it only made his character more likeable. I liked how we were inside both of these characters heads – it kept me interested in both of them at the same time.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. The plot, characters and action kept me intrigued and the cliff-hanger ending made me want to read more. Whilst there are aspects that could be improved, one of the marks of a good book is whether or not you actually have fun reading it and I can say for definite that I did.

AND THEN, I DIED is a solidly enjoyable read that caught me in the first chapter. Well, in the first page. Geez, to be honest, the first chapter title had me enticed.

It’s an excellent romance novel with a quality plot (isn’t that rare enough!), which made me almost forget it was a romance novel. What I admire most about this novel is the importance devoted to the characters, their individual pasts and motivations, and the actual conflict at hand. Too often romance novels descend into needless sex because “oohh, romance,” but this book took the time to establish why these two characters are so important independently, and why they are so killer when they’re together. Then it keeps the tension up with an action/adventure someone’s-going-to-kill-me threat, balanced with a thoughtful amount of sex that doesn’t overwhelm the story -- but it certainly enhances it.

The writing style: From the moment I started reading, I felt like a movie had begun in my head. The writing style had an excellent pace so I didn’t get bored (thank God), and it reflected the characters’ personalities really well. During POV changes, I didn’t feel lost because I could sense a difference in tone. The tone of voice was super interesting and kept my attention even at low points in the plot.

The characters: Beth is a strong female character with a well-rounded personality and a healthy dose of badassary. She has a dark past that is revealed with careful pacing, and that’s probably one of my favorite parts. A lot of times authors are lured into making a female character’s past “edgy” and “tragic,” and it becomes her entire personality. While Beth’s past definitely influences her, I never felt like it overwhelmed her – no “oohh, dramatic,” moments. She felt realistic and it made me respect her.

Liam is a male main character who personifies the classic playboy millionaire trope, but, catch this: He actually has a thinking mind, personal motivations outside of sex, and actual boundaries. Other romance novels made me expect a cliché male lead, but Liam defied the stereotypes. He feels desire, he has a bit of a power complex, but it’s well-managed, well-balanced, and realistic. Again, I loved how the characters’ habits and pasts didn’t define who they are. They were thinking people I could relate to, even if I didn’t agree with them.

What I didn’t like: My only two criticisms is I wasn’t fond of how a younger character (you’ll know them when you see them) was introduced, because it seemed a bit rushed; and I felt the main conflict was resolved a little fast. However, the plot twist (you’ll know it when you see it) was excellently timed and had me jumping in my seat, yelling “WHAT?” Which is always a good sign. I think the book could have benefitted from another chapter or two to draw out the ending, but I see the reasoning behind the author’s decision. And in the grand scheme of the book, it’s a minor complaint and the other awesome elements overshadowed the small flaws.

All in all: It’s a great novel that makes you ask questions, flip pages, and skip dinner to finish. I highly recommend it to those searching for romance, strong characters, and action.

This could have been a perfect book, I would have given it five stars if it wasn't so ambiguous and didn't let so many things in the air. The book is about a guy, Liam, that has someone trying to kill him, and Beth, a mystery girl that owns the place where he is staying, a place that was rented to him by one of her friends without her knowledge, which causes them to become roommates. We have two mysteries, who is trying to kill him and why, and who is she?

As the book progresses we learn more about Beth and the "incident", and how she went through a mayor personality change because of that. She is still struggling with the aftermath of the "incident", even after years, but after problems at work she is starting to work on her issues and get better. Surprisingly to her, being near Liam also helps.

They start investigating and find who is after him, but in the meanwhile there's a lot of secrets and conflicts. What I didn't like about the book is all the open endings. The characters never resolve all of their issues, there are many things left unsaid or unresolved, and the ending is too fast, too chaotic and too short. I get it is one of those endings that you can interpret how you want, but for me it's sometimes frustrating.

This book is an absolute gem and let me tell you why. The sarcastic humor and intriguing characters grab your attention right away. May Sage teases out the back stories slowly throughout the book and it makes you desperately want to know more about them. And Then, I Died is a delightful blend of erotica and romance with an actual plot that isn't just a half-formed after thought. The mystery and tech featured in the book is fascinating but doesn't overpower the main theme of the book: Damaged people discovering what they've been missing.

William "Liam" Slate is the guy that everyone woman wants deep down but is afraid to admit it. He's damaged goods, with a long list of conquests. He's self-sufficient, precise and emotionally closed off. Until he meets the person that changes everything. He's the personification of why women always go for the bad guy. We all want to be the one woman that makes him re-evaluate everything in his life until he makes a leap of faith he never thought possible. Delicious, self-indulgent fun and I look forward to the sequel.

And Then I Died is a well paced novel that includes all of the things people want when reading a book. Fully fleshed out characters, a thoughtful storyline, action, suspense, humor, and love... with a delightful smattering of sexual tension and steamy love scenes thrown into the mix that leave you wanting more.

May Sage did a wonderful job of weaving a lovely tale filled with drama, intrigue, and suspense. The main characters are relatable and funny, smart and sarcastic. You want to dislike them but you end up loving them both. The side characters, while not the main focus, were still wonderfully developed. You can get a sense of who they are and what parts they play in Elizabeth and Liam's lives.

I look forward to the second book in this series with anticipation. I will definitely be following this author.

This is a difficult book to rate fairly because in some places it certainly deserved five stars and in others more like 3. However,
to be fair to the author, I plonked for a four because the passages that are good are very good indeed. The characters are complex and the two main stories become compelling reading as Liam and Elizabeth are torn by the emotions drawing them together and repelling them at the same time and there is humour too, which I really liked. Where the author is weaker, it seemed to me, was in crafting the story - so at times, particularly in the first part of the book, I was confused as to what and whom I was actually reading about.
However, overall, the love tension and erotic undercurrents make it an enjoyable and well above average read.

I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. I've won a bunch of books and I'm just now getting to them all. Hopefully I will have reviews written on all of them by July.

Anyway, I didn't like this book at all. It was all over the place and I couldn't follow the story line. I gave it 2 stars though because I feel bad giving any book anything less because the author has given their all to write it. I can't really write a review because I couldn't follow where this book whatsoever.

I'll donate the book to my local library in hopes that someone else will read it, like it, and write a favorable review.

This is a wild story, starting with unsuspecting Liam finding himself overpowered by a woman who lays claim to his apartment. They end up sharing, with a slowly growing but undeniable chemistry simmering between them. Excellent lead characters and well written chemistry lead to some steamy scenes and a great pull into the story.
The great play between them is however only a part of the story. Once the thriller part of the story jumps into gear the book becomes a very entertaining action story, sexy, witty and intelligent. With a surprising end to this reader this turned out to be a hugely enjoyable story.
Explicit in language and content.

The world of a successful young entrepreneur and committed bachelor is turned upside down by a mysterious woman.

Not my usual read but I found it an interesting mix of romance and action / assassination attempts. The pacing in places was a bit too quick for, jumping from one aspect to another. I found some of writing / dialogue slightly awkward (but that could just be a British interpretation of the words).

If you like romantic fiction with a few thriller sections this may be worth a look.

I would have given this book at 4.5 stars out 5, but it wouldn't do what Amazon does. I loved this book! The dialogue is witty, the pace is fast and the characters are HOT. Sage keeps you on your toes and makes you pay attention. The plot was really good and the ending was a cliffhanger that I didn't expect coming! If you want a happy ending, it looks like you'll have to try and find it in the next book! I can't wait to read And Then, I Ran.

Step In/And Then I died has a lot to offer the reader. Don't be fooled by thinking it is all erotica, it isn't, it is a good book with a solid and complete story. Romance, thriller, a touch of mystery. It's all here in one book. Yes, it is explicit in some parts but May Sage does it tastefully and Step In is written well.

The narrative carries you forward at a steady pace and the dialogue make the book engaging. You will fall in love with Beth and feel for her every step of the way

Deep, Dark, and Driven

Perhaps a little too much confusion used to build suspense, and I can already tell the next one will be the same, but when the story unravels, it does so beautifully.

Unexpected

Really good book. There are so many twists that are completely unexpected. Liam and Beth just fit with their screwed up pasta and give us a great story.
