Science teachers are supposed to be nerdy, combed-over and, quite frankly, a little dull. They’re not supposed to be like him. And while he may be the ideal person to help 22-year-old Sarah Kyle nail her fellowship essay for Stanford’s master’s program, he may also be far more life changing than she bargained for.
Daniel Moore is certain he would never date a former student. No question. Still, he’s not quite prepared for the schooling he’s about to receive from that four-chambered muscle in his chest that is suddenly adapting to an entirely new mandate. Yep, evolution is a bitch!
Because life is only one part science; the rest is art. And life can turn on a dime; they both know that, all too well. In their own ways, they both live with the enduring effects – the ripple effects – of sudden loss. This powerful connection draws them together in the unspoken understanding of things that are just hard to explain. But will it ultimately prove to be the bond that unites them or the force that tears them apart?
RIPPLE EFFECTS is a standalone dual POV adult contemporary romance that contains no twenty-something-year-old billionaires, no private jets and no bedroom accouterment. It does contain the first reference to dinoflagellates in women’s literature (full disclosure: this may not be true), an ardent love affair sparked by the misuse of a hyphen (that is true), and a heartfelt and generously humorous journey of self-discovery, forgiveness, and the restorative quality of love.
LJ Greene is a self-professed obsessive multi-tasker who writes boring stuff by day and lets her inner romantic fly by night. This California native is married to the most amazing man and has two incredible children who feed her soul every day. She’s an avid reader of all genres with an embarrassingly large ebook collection, and a weird penchant for reading the acknowledgements at the end of a novel. She’s also a music lover with no apparent musical talent, a travel enthusiast, and a cheese connoisseur.
I loved this book! I’m always looking for new authors to “wow” me, and Ms. Greene does it spendidly! This book was funny, romantic, and sweet. The beginning chapter had me laughing my ass off. It’s the story of two amazing characters that just needed acceptance and love. They seemed to fit perfectly. That is until secrets invade their trust and honesty with each other.
Danny was wonderful! Smart, humorous, and not too bad on the yes. He’s Sarah’s former high school science teacher, and when they meet again and pursue each other, their relationship is a bit strained from their age difference. They seem to get passed it, but Danny’s avoidance to tell Sarah a huge part of what his life is like has ramifications for their relationship. Will they be able to believe in their love for each other???
Sarah was also an amazing character! Great sense of humor, pretty, and very independent. Her life was not very easy growing up. She had quite a few responsibilities after the loss of a parent. And, when she and Danny connect after some years have gone by, it’s breathtaking! Magical! Romantic! I couldn’t get enough of their love story!! It was mesmerizing! The words. The characters. Just made me swoon with all its heart and soul. One book not to be missed!!!
This is the kind of passion where every second is so precious that you’d trade a thousand of those random moments for just one of these. Like if you can just have this one perfect thing, you don’t need anything else. This is the kind of passion where you take in every detail; you memorize it, and hold it safe in your heart because nothing else could ever be better. This passion prizes commitment, longevity, and trust. This is when you know you’re with the one person who is your other half. This is love.” ~ Sarah (Chap. 22)
I really enjoyed this story about a romance between a Stanford undergrad and a Stanford PhD candidate who just happens to have been the undergrad's science teacher in high school. Eleven years separate them in age but they feel a real connection to each other. They both have the experience of losing parents early in life, and in her case dealing with an alcoholic mother and his a demanding, never to be pleased father. In assuming responsibilities not normally taken on by young adults they both developed a go it alone persona which makes putting their two personalities together to form one relationship difficult. The book follows their struggles, including the science teacher's awkwardness at being seen dating a former student.
The initial "dating" portion of the book is outright hilarious at times. She chiding him for grading his students' papers with his red pen and returning them in her science class looking as if someone had been murdered on her essay, as one example.
Real life kicks in brutally at times. It takes everything our undergrad and would be PhD have to keep the ship afloat.
The writing by this author I've never heard of is spot on. Sophisticated and entertaining. One thing I'll warn other readers is that I felt vastly inferior to all the piano playing, thesis writing, and intellectual ability the characters in this book displayed as opposed to my simple, romance book reading life.
I won Ripple Effects through a goodreads giveaway. I absolutely loved the humor of the book and the witty banter between Sarah and Danny. Within the first couple of pages I could tell I would truly enjoy this book and I really did. I was looking for something that I could help me out of my romantic funk since finishing the 50 shades trilogy... this honestly did the trick. Please, L.J Greene, write me another!
Short review. Sweet, heartfelt, sexy love story that shows the ups and downs of finding real love, it also shows how grief no matter how many years it's been still affects people especially if you were close to them or had a strained relationship with them. The banter between Daniel and Sarah is both witty and sexy, it's easy to see how these two are so drawn together and why they belong together. The secondary characters are fascinating and interesting that you'll want to learn more about them. Daniel and Sarah have walls built up from their respectable separate past that keep them from sharing themselves fully with another person or trusting that someone won't hurt them, the struggle to let those walls down and each other in is so well-written and heartfelt.
first off, I rarely write reviews. I mainly use goodreads for my own selfish reasons, to read them and get a good idea of what I want to read next. I stumbled upon this book accidentally. I ate it up within less than a 24 hour period and I am so sorry it's over already. I'll most likely re-read this in a month and fall in love all over again.
This is everything you want out of a romance. I loved the struggles. I loved the conversation. The writing. The steam. The chemistry.
There's always one thing you find in a book where you're like, yeah, if I had the cajones to write, I'd do that differently. NOPE.
I can not believe this only has 15 ratings and 10 reviews. are you kidding me? buy this book. buy it right the hell now. Ms. Greene, I applaud your work, your writing, and this beautiful couple you shared with us. I genuinely look forward to another sleepless night with the next book you publish. Please hurry!
There was definitely something off with this story that I still can't figure out. I was interested, but not too invested. The h and H also had something missing between them that did not exactly leave me begging for more.
I won this book through a Goodreads Giveaway. Aside from the excessive use of the “F…” word, it was a good book. I had to read it twice because the first time the language threw me off and I breezed through it, not paying much attention. However, I decide to give it another try. The two lead characters were down to earth. It was a romantic and fun book that kept me going till the end.
"It helps to be a romance fan if you want to read “Ripple Effects,” but it’s not 100% necessary. It’s easy enough to get pulled into the world simply on the quality of the writing."
I really enjoyed this book! It was a great read with lots of hot scenes. It was great in how to defend against all odds when love is there. I kinda had a hard time liking the relationship past of the two as far as student and teacher but it was real life related. Tough subject but despite that I liked this book. Thank you!

I have read two books in this series. Many romance books are so predictable. Where there was some predictability, I was never bored with the plot. The characters were so interesting and I could not put either book down until I finished them. Can't wait to read the rest in the series and am hoping it will not be long before the author comes out with more!
