Transporting pet supplies—and the occasional bunny—is routine for pilot Maria de Silva. Discovering drugs amidst her shipments of kitty litter is not. Out of fuel in the Oregon wilderness, Maria barely escapes with her life when dealers meet her on the runway. She finds refuge at Cy Sheridan's idyllic animal sanctuary—a whole new world for this city girl. But Maria fears that her drug-smuggling client will take revenge against the man—and animals—she's come to love. Is there a wolf in sheep's clothing lurking in the woods?

So many twists in this one! I didn’t put it down at all and I couldn’t predict what was around each corner of the story. I really enjoyed the unique mystery in this thriller.
Love love and love this story!! Trying to outrun the guilt of our past choices is a hard thing to do. It doesn't matter how far or how fast we go, the truth always catches up to us one way or another. But it doesn't have to be this way, there is freedom to be found in Christ. He already loves us, flaws and all. So we don't need to out run ourselves anymore. And once we let Him take those heavy burdens, everything changes for the better. It may not be right away, but it's coming.
While waiting for the people to collect their goods, Maria discovers it isn't just pet food her plane is transporting.
A storm breaking, a deserted airstrip in the middle of nowhere, a plane very low on fuel and bad guys appearing, Maria wonders if anything else could go wrong. Rescuing the 3 legged rabbit marked out for snake food she makes for safety.
And eventually finds sanctuary at One Word, an animal rescue place.
Except the bad guys are still after her. Apparently she took something off the plane that they want back. But she only took the rabbit...didn't she?
Loved the setting at One Word and the reason for its name. Cy and Stew were favourite characters of mine, and I completely understood Maria and her fears to love and trust. Oh, and Hank (the rabbit) was a great addition to the story. My only niggle with the story: I didn't feel comfortable with Cy praying for the murdered person they found - by then, they are either in heaven or hell. Praying for their families and for justice would have been better.
Another good Love Inspired Suspense. Loved the little touches of humor in the opening scenes. The next best thing to having a dog or baby in a book is to have a three legged rabbit. To know what I'm talking about, you'd have to read the book.
I was rather disappointed with this book. I liked Dana Mentink's other books such as 'Lost Christmas Memories' and 'Escape from the Badlands' much more. I would've like to see Cy's point of view, for me that was a downside because i would've really liked to know what his view was on Maria and a little bit more of his history would've been nice as well. Would i read it again? Probably not, i mean Dana is a great author, but this book just isn't for me. I liked Hank though...
This is one of those books that stands out from others. The book is written entirely from Maria's perspective. We have a strong male character who lives by himself - pretty much away from society. Yet we see him engage with society normally. I really enjoyed the dynamics of this man and his sanctuary. He had a lot of hard things to deal with...
This book just left me feeling good in the end with the powerful nail-biting suspense and the "love comes softly" romance.
