She was the woman of pararescue jumper Manny Pena's dreams. But he'd stuck his foot in his mouth the last time he met Celia Munoz. Now, grounded after a parachuting accident, he was desperate to make amends with the beautiful widow.
But Celia wasn't having it. The last thing she needed was another man with a dangerous job--even if he had given his life to God.
Manny's growing commitment to her and her troubled son began to convince her that perhaps she should take her own leap of faith.
Manny crashes his parachute into a grove of trees and must recover physically. Celia's husband Joseph was shot in the line of duty. Can two people afraid of more family involvement help Celia's son Javier deal with his teen years?
I enjoyed the banter between Manny and Celia. I liked how the author stressed the importance of having a father figure in a childs life. The ending was priceless!
They are getting better and better. You really need to read them in order, not there are cliffhangers but the people in the stories lap over. Fast reading. I read two books today but I never slept.
Manny Peña is a pararescue jumper who is used to saving others. But he’s in need of a rescue himself when his parachute won’t open on a training jump. Good thing Manny made his peace with God. Too bad he didn’t have a chance to tell his good friend Joel Montgomery about it.
Manny wakes up in the hospital to find an angel in his room. At least he’s pretty sure Celia Munoz is a heavenly body. But… Manny didn’t make such a good impression the last time he saw Celia. In fact, he propositioned her. Can he convince Celia he’s a changed man?
Single-mom Celia has enough on her hands between working two jobs and taking care of her rebelling teenage son. But how can she refuse her friend Amber Montgomery when Amber asks her to help tote the injured Special Forces soldier to his doctor’s appointments? Now all Celia has to do is keep her heart intact. That shouldn’t be too hard considering how she feels about Manny. Right?
Cheryl Wyatt charms readers in this second installment of her Wings of Refuge series. Her humor is so natural that the reader will find themselves laughing out loud often, without even realizing they’re doing it.
In addition to doing humor well, Cheryl does romance in her own unique and believable way. Celia and Manny not only get off to a rocky start, but both have their own demons to overcome from their pasts. And Cheryl uses both main characters to bring out the other person’s concerns, but also help them overcome the thing that is blocking them from true happiness.
If you enjoy laugh-out-loud humor and romance with a bang, this book is right up your alley.
Manny and Celia meet at their friends' wedding where he propositions her and she slugs him. Months later, Manny has given his wild lifestyle and wants to make amends and really get to know Celia. He ends up grounded by a parachuting accident and is finally able to spend time with Celia and her son, but Celia doesn’t want to get to get involved with a man holding a dangerous job. Will she be able to take a leap of faith?
A Soldier’s Family is an inspirational tale that can get a little preachy at times. Both characters seem to be a little extreme. I kept wishing they were not so intense. On the other hand, it was refreshing to read a story with Latin-American characters and both were slightly older than your typical romance hero and heroine.
Checked a bunch of her books out of the library. I liked the premise of a Christian relationship with a military hero. I found the writing style bland and the plot just a bit too much. I looked through the others in this same series and won't be reading them. Too bad, I've liked other "Love Inspired" authors.
US paratrooper Manny Penna crashed (literally) into Celia Munoz's life. After a parchuting accident he needs to recover, but all Celia thinks of him is that he's a drunken lout.
Cheryl is a special author. Her characters are real and deal with real issues. You will not regret reading any of her books. My full review can be found at More Than a Review dot com.
