BE MY (OFFICE) VALENTINE Wes Robinson may be part of the lost Fortune family, but he's more concerned with the fortunes of Robinson Tech. On Valentine's Day, his company will be rolling out a new computer app that will—allegedly—fix users up with their ideal mate. Wes has nothing against amour; he just has no faith in the perfect, lasting kind. He'll take a passionate fling any day. Tell that to Vivian Blair, however. Wes's longtime employee with the earnest heart has complete faith that her app will work. So when she and Wes are challenged to use My Perfect Match themselves, it's game on. What follows is a series of dating debacles—and Viv's horrifying suspicion that her Mr. RIght might be her curmudgeonly boss in the cubicle next door…
At seventeen, Stella married her high school sweetheart: Harrell, and they had a son Jason. She began her writing career almost by accident. She was a hairdresser and worked in her sister's beauty shop. Ironically, Stella developed a severe allergy to hairspray and was forced to resign. With time on her hands, Stella wanted to do something creative. She remembered a high school English teacher telling her she could be a writer if she wanted. Although she always loved reading romances, she never thought to write one herself. Armed with that now notion and an old, manual typewriter, she went to work, attempting to create a story similar to those she liked reading. The result‚ her first book, purchased by Mills & Boon and issued under the Harlequin imprint. After that, she became a full time writer and today, has close to forty published novels. Her for the future is to continue writing romance novels as long as there's an audience to enjoy her work.
Next to writing, traveling is one of her most favorite activities. Yet, because the southwest is dear to her heart, she sets most of her books there in rough, rugged ranch country. She feels it's essential to know a place before writing about it; that philosophy gives her more reason to plan trips! The marriage has always lived in southeastern Oklahoma. But, they purchased a portion of a twenty-two hundred, acre ranch; they now make their home there. Before moving onto the ranch, she had a swimming pool in her back yard and spent most of her summer evenings in the water. Her husband has promised to put in another pool, but for now she has to make do with the creek that runs through their property. The closest town of three thousand is fifteen miles away; she says she loves the seclusion, living among the woods and horses and wildlife. The only thing she doesn't like is making the thirty mile round trip to the post office or grocery store. Worse still, is the eighty-five mile trip to get office supplies!
One of her greatest joys was to see Jason, her only son, graduate from college with degrees in math and physical education. He now lives in Port Lavaca, Texas, where he teaches high school algebra and geometry and coaches football and weightlifting. Family has always come first with Stella and she enjoys spending time with her son when he visits Oklahoma. Sometimes, she and her husband drive down to the Texas coast to see him. However, her mother, step-father and siblings all live nearby and they have routine get-togethers. In her spare time, she enjoys practicing violin and guitar, both of which she can play by ear. She claims to need years of practice before calling herself a musician. Stella also enjoys gardening and being outdoors.
Twenty-eight-year-old Vivian Blair is one of a team of computer developers at Robinson Tech. She has just created an app called “The Perfect Match” that will find lonely singles their perfect partner. Her boss, Wes Robinson, (thirty-three-year-old vice president of research development at Robinson Tech) sees the money-making potential in the app, but he doesn’t believe in it. (His views of romance are soured by his parents’ unhappy marriage and his father’s philandering ways.) But during a tv interview for the app, Wes recklessly says he will try it. Now the media is following his every move to see who his perfect match will be. Along the way, he is seeing his co-worker Vivian (who is also trying the app) in a new light.
This was a cute and fun read. Vivian was a good heroine. She believed in her abilities to create something worthwhile, and was inventing more apps. Working close with Wes made her notice her attraction to him. Wes has a twin, Ben, who he was at times rivaling, but he still loved him. (His father favored Ben and gave him the top position at Robinson Tech, which caused some friction between the two.) It was enjoyable seeing Wes and Vivian’s romance unfold.
A pleasant, and sometimes humorous story by Stella Bagwell.
Wes and Vivian were two different people with different beliefs who fell under the spell of love. I enjoyed the movie so much but I also would love to read the story and see how perfectly they were matched.
Fun book about two people with opposite views of love. Wes is one of the owners of Robinson Tech and in charge of the division that develops computer and phone applications. One of his employees, Vivian, has written one that she claims will help people find their Perfect Match. He's skeptical, but it will make money for the company so he'll promote it. A less than pleasant interview with a TV talk show host has Wes claiming that he'll use the app himself to show his faith in it. As the developer, Vivian feels that she must do the same.
Their pre-launch discussion shows that they have vastly different ideas of what makes the perfect match. Wes has grown up with parents who seem to barely tolerate each other, much less love each other. They may have done so at one time, but it's obvious that it didn't last. Wes has no intention of ever marrying, he'd much rather enjoy a passionate fling, then move on when the fire dies. On the other hand, Vivian saw the passion that her parents had for each other, but that was all they had. They had nothing in common otherwise, which led to her father moving on and her mother raising her kids alone. She is convinced that the secret to a long lasting relationship is compatibility first. Vivian is bugged by his cynicism and Wes thinks that she is delusional.
Though they've worked together for six years, this is the first time that Wes has had much discussion with Viv. Though he doesn't agree with her viewpoint, he finds himself having way too much fun winding her up. He had never noticed that much passion in her before, and he is intrigued by her. Having to work together on the launch gives him the chance to find out more.
I loved seeing the dates that they ended up with through the app. Viv's dates were definitely compatible in interests, but there was no fire with any of them. She's a little dismayed by her lack of progress, but refuses to give up too soon. Wes's dates are the beautiful types of women he's always gone for, but he's finding that they aren't holding his interest the way they used to. When Wes needs a date for his brother's wedding, he asks Viv to go as a favor, as taking a casual date to a wedding is never a good idea. He gets quite a shock when he sees her out of her office attire, and the attraction that he had started to feel intensifies. Viv is feeling it too, and she's not too happy about it. Wes isn't the type to want forever and she wants to find someone who does.
The development of their relationship was interesting. The attraction was there and they eventually quit fighting it though neither believes that there is a future for them. Wes still doesn't believe that love lasts, even though his mind keeps picturing Viv in his life. Viv is certain that the differences between them are too great to make a match possible. Thanks to the media attention from their challenge to use the app, any time they spend together has to be kept secret. Wes finds himself more and more invested in what he sees building between them and begins to realize that he may have been wrong about love, but can't figure out how to tell her. Meanwhile, Viv discovers that she wants more than Wes seems to be willing to give, and tries to pull away to protect her heart.
I loved the ending and seeing Wes try to make things right with Viv. He was kind of cute in his awkward way of trying to tell her how he felt. Viv was a little bit oblivious because she was so sure that he was out of her league. Seeing them finally admit their love was very satisfying.
Also running through the book is the continuing question of whether the Robinsons are really part of the Fortune family. So far, Ben and Rachel are the only ones truly interested in pursuing the answers. The rest of the family doesn't want the drama, and their father isn't talking. A little more information comes to light which I expect will be addressed in the next book.
This story is a nice romance but is also part of a bigger story. I admit I have not read enough of the Fortune's of Texas to follow the whole story.
Wes Robinson comes from a big family. He might be from a bigger one too. His twin brother thinks they might be part of the Fortunes. Wes is disappointed that his father did not give him the company Robinson Tech to run but put his brother in charge.
Vivian Blair works for Robinson Tech and developed a app My Perfect Match that will help people find their perfect match. she believes that having common interests will make people happy. Wes believes chemistry works. But he has no plans to get married.
Wes and Vivian agree to sign up to find their own perfect match and the media is following them to see if it works.
Lots of sex in the story.
I was given this ebook to read for free from NetGalley and Harlequin. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Fortune's Perfect Valentine.
Part of Harlequin's "The Fortunes of Texas" series.
Wes Robinson is the thirty-three-year-old vice president of research development in the family business. On Valentine’s Day, the company will roll out a new dating app called ‘My Perfect Match.’ Vivian Blair, the developer, is sure it will work well and be a money-maker for the company. First, though, it must be tested. Wes, a skeptic of the process, and Vivian are to do that by answering a series of questions so a computer match can be generated.
Having worked together for years, they’d never really known each other well—and certainly not on a romantic level. Through the app, Wes finds himself dating the same kind of women he’s always dated and is less than enthused by Vivian’s app. Her dates are less than stellar and she is becoming dismayed that there is a flaw in her app. Needing a date for his twin brother’s wedding, Wes asks Vivian to accompany him. There is a turning of the tide for him as Wes sees her in a different light rather than in the office setting he is used to. Vivian, on the other hand, thinking herself beneath him even though interested, begins to feel more. How to get past all the awkwardness between them?
NOTE: Film, “My Perfect Romance” starring Christopher Russel , Jodie Sweetin , Kimberly Sue Murray
I don't think giving this book stars would be fair. I read this because I watched Hallmark's My Perfect Valentine, and as I often do with movies I enjoy but think there might be more story to, I looked it up to see if it was based on a book. In most cases I enjoy the books even more because it brings more depth and emotion to the story. This book however did not do that for me. Perhaps if I had read the book and not seen the movie I might have enjoyed the book, which is why I am not rating it with stars. But in this case I thought the writing was not great and the story felt both stilted and rushed. Quite a conundrum.
Love the Fortune's. With this new story line they are all exciting books. I loved watching the new main people of this story Wes and Vivian learn about love and marriage. They both started out with much different ideas. Wonderful love story.
Vivian is working on an app that'll ask the users a set of questions and come up with suitable mates. Wes has set the app to launch on valentines day, even if he's a skeptic of love that doesn't stop the fact that it'll make him money. When he reveals that he'll be using the app, Vivian is pretty much horrified at the idea knowing full well that he doesn't believe in that sort of thing meanwhile she believes in love.
I liked this book it was unique and fun. So far I've read many books based around Valentines Day and I have to say this is my favorite Valentine's Day read. I liked the characters and getting to know them. I loved the chemistry between the two. I loved that after a bit Vivian after all that fun decided she was worth more and didn't continue what what going on between them, that she didn't want to hid things between them. Overall I really enjoyed this book.
*I received this book in exchange for an honest review* Aw, I loved how clueless Wes and and how Viv pushed him. This story was a great sexy romance for Valentine's Day or any other day after! The characters were well written and wonderful. I loved every interaction between them. This story will make you smile, make you feel and warm you up! Grab this book and enjoy! I'm certainly looking for more from this series now!
In the day and age of internet dating, I can think of few things more fun than putting the makers of a dating app on the block with the rest of it's users. Add a competitive nature between two colleagues and anything can happen. I had a lot of fun reading this novel. The characters were realistic and some of the situations recognisable to anyone who dates online.
